Ever since I was little I've suffered from migraines. Sometimes it's from too much stress. Most of the time, though, it's from the weather. When the weather changes ~20°F in the span of 24 hours, I get a migraine. When it's humid, such is in the summer time, I get a migraine. When a storm is coming (snow, rain, thunder, hail, etc.) I get a migraine. Living in Vermont, I get migraines quite often. Usually if a storm comes (snowstorms and thunderstorms) I get a sort of 'pre-migraine'. That is, my head feels very heavy and like it is being squeezed like a balloon stuffed with cotton. On the day of the storm, my migraine is so much worse-- blurred vision, nausea, pounding like a bass drum (you know how they have the beater, the felt-covered mallet so it's kinda soft impact but reverberates heavily). Light hurts, certain smells make me more nauseous, no appetite and trouble sleeping without my pills. Loud noises, of course, are very painful.

Do you know what your triggers are? How do you handle your migraines? Do you have techniques, medication, etc. that help?

Caffeine, sugar, and pills work for me. They can help dull it a little bit. In fact, I had a coffee coolatta thingy today and I have some Mt Dew as well, even though I hate both of them, and coffee hurts my insides :( I take gabapentin for a both nerve pain and migraines. I take 2700 mg a day;, 300 mg capsules, three of them, thrice a day. Sometimes I take Excedrin as well.

Ugh, migraines are the worst! I got my first migraine when I was 14 ( almost 28 now). I seem to have inherited them from my mother, so they tend to appear randomly, don't necessarily have any triggers. I think the worst was when for a month straight I would get migraines on Friday at 5:00.

As far as treating them, I usually take excedrin and drink some caffeine, that usually does the trick. And of course, lying down in a dark room that's quiet also does wonders.

I have migraines every few months. Not nice. A friend of mine however has 20+ days of migraine EACH month and no doctor is able to help so I am not going to complain about my couple of bad days.

I used to have infrequent migraines when I was in high school, but they mostly cleared up when I got into college - just recently, though, they've been back with a vengeance. I seem to have triggered them by daring to mow the lawn with a rotary mower a few months back (the noise and the vibration was so, so bad for me), and now I'm walking on eggshells with my own body trying to avoid them.

So far, I've triggered one by exercising, a few by just smelling someone's perfume, at least one by eating something that didn't agree with me (no idea what), and one by not getting enough sleep. I've had more migraines in the past six months than I have in years. Little bit frustrating :')

What really helps me is getting an ice pack and rubbing it all over my head until I'm too numb to feel, and sleeping, if I can. (If I can get to sleep, that usually stops it. Yaaaay.) I hope yours ease off - I really wouldn't wish migraines on anyone.

I've been dealing with migraines for almost 16 years. I've taken almost every kind of medication my doctors and neurologists could throw at me and usually about twice a month I get one that won't respond to any treatment I try and have to get injections to break them. My husband and I are trying to have a baby, so I can't take any preventatives right now, which is horrible.

Weather is definitely a trigger for me. When it storms, I'm usually miserable. Stress is another trigger for me, and since I have anxiety and stress about everything under the sun, that's really fun. Strong smells can cause one too...perfume or cologne is the worst but I've had to yell at my husband for using certain air fresheners and cleaning products if I'm at home.

As far as how I deal with them...honestly over the years I've just adjusted to pretty much living with a constant headache. I have Maxalt I can use as an abortive but I HAVE to take it the second I feel symptoms or it won't work. I have a freezable pain relief mask that I use (I highly recommend these) when I try to sleep. If those fail, my doctor gave me a really strong pain killer in nasal spray form.

I think the worst part about having migraines is when friends or family think it's "just a headache" and don't understand why you can't just take some advil and be fine. I wouldn't wish the experience on anyone but sometimes I DO wish there was a way for them to feel what I feel just once.

I get migraines maybe once every 6 months, so I can hardly complain. Doesn't seem to be a trigger for me, they just come every now and then. Some excedrin-migraine and caffeine - and I can usually fall asleep in a dark room and sleep through it. By the time I wake up it's usually down to a normal headache which I can power my way through. The worst for me aside from the light sensitivity, is the nausea. I hate throwing up with a passion and migraines always make me throw up or keep me on that weird cliff edge of almost throwing up. Blah.

But I have a friend who suffers from migraines multiple times a week and is basically house-bound. So I list all my blessings, give her a hug whenever I can and thank my husband for giggling with our twins while I sleep through it.

Exercise - specifically running outside - is the only trigger for a migraine for me. They used to happen every time I went for a run, but that eventually dwindled down to just every so often. I could never figure out what about the run specifically would cause it.

I wouldn't wish a migraine on anyone - I vomit almost every time, I can't sleep, and the only relief is Excedrine or two days in a dark room. Anyone who is prone to migraines any more often than that genuinely has my deepest sympathies.

Not taking my medicine triggers them, or taking my medicine early and waking up late. The medicine I'm taking usually prevents them, but sometimes it doesn't work. I usually take some pill to cure them. Certain scents can trigger headaches/migraines for me. Coca Cola works wonders because it helps my nausea and it gives me some caffeine. I usually need to stay in a dark room for a couple hours as well. I've had them since I was 3 but I wasn't able to communicate it until I was 5-6

Migraine is horrible! I only get it once or twice a month but I absolutely hate it :( before I went to my current school I only had migraine one time before with 12? Guess my triggers are also stress, warm temperatures (I never get migraine in winter which is... strange) I know when its coming when I have a strange tenseness in my neck and shoulders. I cant think anymore, like I can't even open doors because I just forgot how that works?? I also get tunnel vision or can't see anything anymore, hands are shaking, nausea, lack of appetite, light sensitivity.... after that "Episode" (I think this is called aura) which lasts up to an hour I get the massive headache. The best I can do is lay in a darkened, silent room and try to sleep. If I can get asleep my migraine is gone after I slept. Like nothing happened after all. Triptamines can help me, but after taking them I am feeling really exhausted and I have to sleep all day lol

Edit June 1st: So I got a migraine I hate it so much. Was feeling pretty euphoric today (which is a symptom too) Now I know why. :/

I also found Exedrin in the Netherlands, the German equivalent has less caffeine (probably still works the same) and I will try it by next "chance".... wish me luck

I have migraines every few months. I usually take Advil Migraine, drink some caffeine, and get as much rest as possible away from harsh lighting and just try to wait it out. It really sucks because my job requires me to work on a computer and I usually have to show up at least a half day no matter how I'm feeling. As soon as I get home though I throw on pajamas, turn the lights off and hit the bed.
