Someone gave me a free couch, but I had no idea until it was dropped off that they smoked. Next time I'm going to ask, becuase this is driving me crazy. I sat on it and even after cleaning it, I can smell smoke on my clothes. It is making the entire house smell awful.
We sprayed it down with febreeze four times. I lit incense and with the burner sitting on the couch 4 times. I cleaned it with vinegar water. Every time the smell will fade, but it just comes right back. It is driving me insane.
There is no way to get to the inside of the couch, and the cushions do not come off.

I literally just googled your question. While I do own a leather couch, no one can smoke inside because I cannot tolerate the smell.
I've found this:
SPOILER (click to toggle)
Baking soda removes stale odors from a sofa, just as it does in the refrigerator. Sprinkle it liberally all over the leather furniture, including the back, armrests, cushions and the area beneath the cushions, if the cushions are removable, then vacuum the powder away after an hour or two. If the cushions are fixed in place, stuff some newspaper between the cushions or into any visible crevices, sprinkle baking soda on the paper and let it sit for a few hours or even a few days. The paper and baking soda team up to remove funky furniture smells.
White vinegar on leather both cleans the surface and combats odors. Spritz a mixture of half vinegar, half water over all leather areas, including cushions, and allow it to air dry for 10 minutes or so in a well-ventilated, dry area before wiping away the vinegar. If the cushions are removable, be sure to spray the reverse side, as well as the area beneath the cushions. Repeat the process if the furniture still smells less than fresh.
Thanks! I had tried vinegar, but I hadn't tried baking soda. I'll have to try that next. :)

Putting it outside would do wonder too tbh.
I second with putting it outside. Air it out as much as you can, take the cushions out and just let everything breathe. Also I would definitely try the baking soda too, it does wonders for smells.
I had the same issue with a mattress I got from my dad's (he smokes). Sadly it took forever to get the smell out, but airing it out had the strongest effect at getting rid of the smell.
I would love to put it outside. I'm trying to figure out how to do it without someone assuming because it's sitting in our yard that it's free and just taking it if I can't sit and watch it all day.
You can't take the cushions out or I totally would. It's all attached and there are no zippers anywhere or anything like that. I am definitely going to try to air it out. It worked really well on a purse that I got from my mother in law.
