Hi everyone! As previously explained, we are implementing a new system for how special abilities work. During the term break, if you plan on using a special ability for the next term, you will need to "register" your ability here. It's a simple process to register your ability - all you have to do is fill out the questionnaire below and post it on this thread.

Please click here for a full list of the approved special abilities and their descriptions. These descriptions are meant to show how these special abilities fit into the HP universe we have created for this game. If you plan to use a special ability with any sort of variation/deviation from the description, you must list how your character will differ here. An admin will need to approve your variance in order for you to use it in the upcoming term. Members may only have one character with a special ability per term.

Please note you can also apply to use a special ability that is not listed on the description thread, however you will need to have it approved before the term starts. Under the variances portion of the questionnaire, please list ALL features of the special ability (including any bonus powers and drawbacks).

Any member who does not register their ability before the next term starts will not be able to use a special ability for that term. This includes new members. If a new member starts in the middle of a term, they will be unable to use a special ability until the next registration is open.

Please also remember that learned abilities (as listed in the description thread) are limited to 6th and 7th year "students", unless you have a compelling reason why they would have learned it sooner. Please list your reasoning in your registration.

Please note that this system applies to characters with special abilities only. Characters with no special ability can be created at any time during the term, and there are no restrictions on how many characters with no special ability members may have.

Username: Raven Character name: Magnus Lee Character's age and year: current age is 12, second year Character's house: Ravenclaw Special ability: Werewolf Character's special ability background: Attacked at almost 9 years old by a werewolf who had stalked him realising he had no family. He was taken to Saint Mungos where he recovered, discovered the wizarding world and he was a werewolf-- Was later adopted. Any additional features/variances of the special ability: None that I can think of, save for the fact his dad or auror friend stay with him in a dungeon to keep him company--and provide the werewolves to be kept separate--which isn't really part of the ability and I'm rambling haha...

Username: Fampie () Character name: Alize Rosalyn Chalifour Character's age and year: 15 - 4th year Character's house: Slytherin Special ability: Metamorphmagus Character's special ability background: Rosie was 3 years old when her family realized she was in fact a Metamorphmagus. Generally she was known for her sunny temperament and positive emotions. However on this particular day she was distressed, extremely distressed. In the family home garden she had been watching a number of baby birds. That day the nest had been upturned. She had seen feathers all around the tree and even one of the dead parent birds. Luckily one of the baby chicks had survived, but with no parent around they were sure to die soon. She scooped it up and ran to her parents. She teared up and asked them to save the baby bird. In her panicked state her hair gradually but quickly shifted to a deep blue black colour and her usual bright green eyes became grey. All over her face and arms freckles sprouted and thus her parents realized something special was up. Rosie continued pleading unaware of the changes to herself. Once she calmed down her hair and eye colour didn't return. It wasn't until the little chick was healthy that she brimmed with joy and her hair and eyes returned to their normal vibrant hues. Not all off the freckles on her small body subsided and she has kept them there since. Over the years Rosie has learned a lot about the inborn ability and has considerable control. In her first years at Hogwarts she liked to constantly and consciously alter her hair colour, but has since calmed down. When she is pushed too far she will snap and it is only then that strangers will learn. After all in order to blend in in muggle society she couldn't just suddenly go from green eyes to red or black and her russet hair shouldn't suddenly be platinum. Most people would frown when seeing such a thing on a young 8 year old. Any additional features/variances of the special ability: generally sticks to eye and hair colour changing, unless a terribly big pimple shows up. she isn't quite aware how much more she could be capable of doing. ex: nothing happened which caused her to subconsciously grow or shrink. intense fear could trigger such a reaction. the ability has no effect on her performance in general, however big body modifications would require her to familiarize herself with the new size and how her limbs would move. as a dancer that would be a big downside.

I was always thinking of having a metamorphmagus character and I'd like it to be her.. also I don't think anyone is doing that yet.. Rosie wants to learn how to transform completely like animagi do, but that is something she will not achieve until the last year of Hogwarts or later. there's a lot of danger in her learning such a thing due to her natural transforming ability. she's learning how to get animal ears or noses now though ^_^

Are students already approved to have special abilities allowed to keep them, or do they need to reapply? Katsumi (not that I've played her on here recently) was supposed to be an occlumens, with a born talent for it and then follow-up training, but I can't recall if that was ever settled. She's second or third year now, I think, though Mahoutokoro does admit students younger than Hogwarts.

Username: Destiny Character name: Dolores Broadmoor (Dory) Character's age and year: 17 - 6th year Character's house: Ravenclaw Special ability: Half Giant Character's special ability background: Her mother was a giant. When she was just a newborn, her father stole her away. He was entranced by an illegal love potion. Any additional features/variances of the special ability: She luckily got mostly the unseen parts of the half breed. She is rather taller and has larger feet but she does have the strength and the resistance to spells. This has helped her in Hogwarts because her father keeps her family background hidden.

Username: Mary Character name: Pearl Romilly Character's age and year: 15 / 5th Year Character's house: Slytherin Special ability: Part-Giant / Half-Giant Character's special ability background: Never met her mother, a giantess, and her father disappeared when she was very young. She was raised by her father's cousin, a witch with anti-half-breed leanings. She was never abused, however her father's cousin Blanche never showed any particular warmth towards her. Any additional features/variances of the special ability: None!

Username: Ambition Character name: Aria Quin Lee Character's age and year: Starting 4th year, age 14 years. Character's house: Gryffindor Special ability: Occlumens Character's special ability background: Obtained ability naturally before entering school of Hogwarts due to extreme abuse and neglect in early life leading to impoverished living on the streets. She had to hone the ability to protect herself, it's one of her strongest abilities. Any additional features/variances of the special ability: None - standard usage

Username: Character name: Katsumi Mattrick Character's age and year: 12 (born Feb 2nd), second year Character's house: Ravenclaw Special ability: Occlumens

Character's special ability background: Kat has a natural affinity for the occlumency skill, quite possibly encouraged by a fierce rivalry with a natural Legilimens at Mahoutokoro while a day student there. Neither occlumency nor legilimency were taught, but that didn't stop her trying to keep her nemesis from picking up her thoughts.

Her affinity for the skill was discovered over the summer vacation in her first year of school, and she requested to be taught the actual spell. She has since honed her ability, to the point of being able to stop most casual attempts to read her thoughts.

Kat does her best to keep her emotions in balance, and meditates daily. She is usually able to find a bit of calm even in difficult situations, and she has considerable mental discipline, both useful to occlumency.

Any additional features/variances of the special ability: none

Username: Twilight_Wanderer Character name: Lenore Addlebourne Character's age and year: 16/6th year Character's house: Slytherin Special ability: Occlumens/(attempted) Legilimens Character's special ability background: Lenore began learning these abilities together at the age of 11. She sees them as 'two sides of the same coin' and thought that by studying them both she would gain greater understanding of them, one from the other. Being quiet and a loner by nature Occlumency came easily and she has nearly mastered it. Her lack of social skills and ability to read people has hindered Legilimency greatly. FOR APPROVAL: Lenore would be an Occlumens and be attempting Legilimency which has eluded her. Basically, I want her to be able to try legilimency but not succeed at any point. (I'm not sure if making an attempt counts so I'm listing it) Any additional features/variances of the special ability: None

Username: MerlinPendragon Character name: Merlin Pendragon Character's age and year: 15 age, 5th year student Character's house: Slytherin Special ability: animagus Character's special ability background: Merlin is an only child that was born and grew in a small village inside a forest, it is a dragon sanctuary, His only friends were the animals and his biggest love and passion the dragons. Because of his loneliness and having a strong desire to be able to relate to them he trained hard since day one to become an animagus and finally was able to do it this past term. He is also quite advanced in magic since he reads and studies lots of more advanced books and his mother teaches him potions at home. (She is a potioneer.) Any additional features/variances of the special ability: Merlin can turn into a fire breathing dragon, but is very careful with it. So far he haven't spit any fire to anyone. =P

Username: Paddy Character name: Paddy Character's age and year: Current age is 13, heading into her third year this year Character's house: Gryffindor Special ability: Werewolf Character's special ability background: Born with a covering of fur, her parents thought she might be a werewolf from the outset, but she didn't 'turn' until she was five (her mother assumed she was bitten by her Uncle, but certainly Paddy is unaware of if she was bitten or not) Any additional features/variances of the special ability: Has a constant covering of fur, even when there's no full moon

Username: Anne Character name: Elizabeth Amalia Covington Character's age and year: 15; 5th year Character's house: Slytherin Special ability: Parselmouth Character's special ability background: It's an inherited ability and comes from the father's side of the family. Elizabeth's grandfather probably used parseltongue, but she doesn't know because he died before she discovered the ability. Due to the fact that Parseltongue was associated with the dark arts and Voldemort, the Covington family rather stayed silent about their heritage in the dark times. Elizabeth's father even refused to speak it which makes it difficult for him to actually understand parseltongue. Nowadays, her parents are more open about it. (The origin of the ability appearing in the Covington family lies in the 16th century; where it was simply an illegitimate son. Although illegitimate children weren't considered a full-part of the family, the boy was approved as a 'real' Covington later when the family needed someone to pass the family name on.) Any additional features/variances of the special ability: none

Username: Character name: Willow Fade Eventide, goes by Fade Character's age and year: 13, second year Character's house: Ravenclaw Special ability: Metamorphmagus Character's special ability background: (how they obtained the special ability - keep it short and sweet) Born as a meta, mother tried to keep it a secret by dyeing his hair. Inherited from his mother’s mom. Any additional features/variances of the special ability: Fade’s abilities are far from incredible. He has been practicing keeping his hair the same color instead of changing all the time with his mood. It is getting easier but his locks still give away his feelings pretty often. He is unable to keep a change of appearance other than his hair for very long, but he practices in his free time.
