Caller: ...and I am calling you about...
Me: cuts her off Really? Do people fall for this? You guys have got to come up with a new scam.
Caller: I assure you, this is not a scam.
Me: Uhhuh, right, sure. Think up something more believable, yeah? Or better yet, get a real job like the rest of us.
Caller: But I need to...
Me: No, I need to get back to work. slams down phone
Oh my GOD I hate this. This SAME EXACT scam outfit keeps calling my work and it is really getting on my nerves. I kind of went off on them this time, a liiiiittle angrier than normal, lol. I hate people that think they can just bullshit people out of their hard-earned money and not earn it themselves. It's crap.
Lmao. <3 I swear, if I get that, I'm gonna be like, "OH MY GOD, MY COMPUTER'S RUNNING. I'LL BE RIGHT BACK." Then hang up.

Wow it's pretty cool that tech support can just predict when your computer's not working now so they can call you first
I love these type of fishy calls. More often than not, I legit spend 5 minutes with them on the phone just to troll them around.
My fiance got a similar call last year. The best part is that he is an information technology major and he's built a couple computers before, lol. They called explaining how there was a problem with Windows 10 and how he needed to pay to get it fixed and of course he gave them a hard time about it. "But I downloaded Windows 10 for free, why do I have to pay to fix your mistake?" I mean he was just messing around since he knew it was a scam. He lied and told them he was out of town for work for two months and his computer was back at home anyway.
Finally, he was like "I'm not interested" and apparently the guy on the other line responded with...idk how to describe it in text, but y'know, the really mocking tone where you can't understand what they are saying and immediately hung up. Wow.
Used to get that call all the time. They stopped calling eventually because they got tired of me telling them I knew it was a scam.
Got a new one though recently. Someone from "VisaMastercard" calling because they've monitored my credit card payments and want to give me a 0% interest rate... they didn't like being told I know visa and MasterCard will never work together since they're separate companies and compete with each other -_-
I got a scam e-mail from the biggest bank in Quebec saying my account got compromised
You know. The account I actually don't have with them because I've always been with another financial institution
So in my day job, one of the hats I wear is "Despaminator". So not only am I really good at recognizing spam and scams, I get paid for it.
My favorite recent one was when someone sent advance fee fraud claiming to be a representative of Atlanta Hartsfield Airport (apparently a box o' cash is waiting for me, as long as I'm willing to split it with the scammer) to my work email.
I got to dust off my "If you try to spam the despaminator, you're gonna have a bad time" macro.

I'm going into IT, and it's hysterical just how not like normal IT these calls are. I got cold-called once and I demanded to know their Microsoft certification number, and they couldn't give me one. He said that I was "a tech illiterate piece of shit" but I kept him on the phone, eating as much time as possible. My program of study right now is Computer Information Systems. I think I know my way around a PC and what it looks like when there really is a problem. Just for those who don't know, the Event Viewer is going to have errors, and there is usually nothing wrong with that. In fact event viewer is more a tool to know what is going on when an obvious problem is occurring, like having to boot into Safe Mode because it won't stay stable.

I JUST NEED YOU TO DO ONE THING.
LIFE TIME PROTECTION OF $499.99 DOLLARS.
glad you told them off! i've heard people complain that people like that need money too but like... sooooo fucking what? they're scamming people! they're swindling people -- mostly old people -- out of their money! that's not okay!! i support anyone who tells those low-lifes off. those people need to be told just how shitty they are.
I can't believe those calls are still going on, I guess they must've taken me off the list after I trolled them repeatedly. The last time they called me was over a year ago - kept the dude on the line for about 15 minutes before I told him that I don't use windows or mac, but rather linux, so he must be mistaken. (Totally lying but shh). He actually had the nerve to accuse me of lying and I laughed in his face and told him to take a minute to dwell on the irony.
Awwwww! This isn't fair. I never get these calls talking about how my computer needs to be fixed and I need to pay so and so to get it fixed. I'm a huge computer nerd. Let me be the troll for once, Fate. Please! ;o;
I do get e-mails and calls from people telling me to pick up a box with this much money, or how my card had questionable buys and they need my card number now. I just talk in Korean really, really fast and they hang up. One call had the guy saying "WTF is this person saying?! D:" Ah! I definitely heard panic in his voice before he hung up on me.
Have you ever gotten those calls supposedly from the IRS? It just stinks of so much bullshit I'm surprised actual manure isn't leaking from my phone.
We have reported them to the authorities and now we don't get any scam phone calls anymore.

My dad got a call like this once. He wanted to see how the scam worked, so he pretended he believed them and followed their instructions. When they started to tell him how to set up remote access on his computer, he basically told them "I'm a computer programmer so I know this is BS." They quickly hung up on him and we haven't gotten a call like that again. XD
