This is more of an general discussion about the Artifact rarity (r105), although I do have some questions to begin with. I decided to ask here, because I think others may be thinking and interested about the same things.
I noticed that quite a number of items were changed to r105 about a month ago. I probably don't even know the names of more than a tiny fraction of them. Of course, I believe the item admins have reasons to place them in this category, and asking them why for every single item would take forever, so I won't ask that.
It does raise this issue though:
Another question is: 2. Why did many pet changing items become this rarity? Are there plans for them? The potions and gender berry were restockable, but now only colorfill potions are. Some colorfill potions, such as Aqua and Vibrant are Artifacts now. Makes me wonder why they are special.
It's not extremely urgent, but if someone in the staff has some time to shed some light on this, I would appreciate it.
Thanks Oh, so the potion rarity was an accident? I guess nobody restocks them nowadays to actually complain about it xD
The Ornate Floral Pitcher, however is still Artifact rarity. The Storm potion is too, but it's not restockable anyways. I think that's it, but I'll keep looking.
Yeah, if you notice any other items like that, let me (or Amber first but I can relay the message) know so it can be fixed =)
okay thanks! I forgot about that one, I'll pass it along. I'll ask about the storm potion too :)
it is a strange one imo... the term itself doesn't really indicate anything about its meaning, and i could never figure out the internal logic it follows. i thought it was mainly token shop and millionaire center items but i don't really 'get' what makes something an artifact item. is it being obtainable from a 'unique' (non-special) shop?
The potions got changed when I moved everything in the Token Shop to r105. I've fixed them, though!
The rarity is for items in special shops. We just never got around to changing the actual name. So things in the recycle shop, millionaire, etc are rarity 105.
You'll notice a lot more getting moved around to various rarities because is a beast and is cutting down r150. I think we have it to where under 1000 items are r150 (with more to change still), when it was like 4000~ items about two weeks ago.
About the weapons, did some get changed to r105 around the same time the challenger loot rarity (r170) was created? I remembered they were either of special (r150) or retired rarity (r101), and were probably never from the token shop. Edit: As I was writing this, I saw your addition about Ariel. I think that's why.
I wish I could remember them, but looks like Subetalodge has updated their rarities now. They usually take a little time to catch up with changes, but they have now, except for the potions again.
As mentioned, the first impression is that it's either a token shop or MC item. And of course there are other shops. I understand about the special shops, but there's more to it, because the shops still have items of different rarities and official values. This sounds like a quick and dirty bandaid solution, but maybe there could be something like "common artifact", "rare artifact", and "priceless artifact"? Or some other term that's more suitable depending on the shops.
Ariel pings the Subetalodge staff as we do a large batch so they can update things quickly. :)
We're not going to make a lot more rarities for it. We only add a new rarity when it's absolutely needed, because there is a fine balance between too many/too little. The token shop is the only shop that has ones of different rarities but mostly 105, the other special shops are all r105. GoOutside, Healers, etc etc.
Thanks for the explanation I hope the rarity classification would be manageable and make sense at the same time, and won't turn into another r150.
Yeah, we're not looking for another monster like r150 was haha. That's why we've done things like battle loot and what not. Token Shop is really the only shop that has something other than r105 in it. If you look at the FAQ I'm building, it has a list of all the rarities and what's in them.
And we both love and hate her for i!
Yeah, the rarity updating we've done is in hopes of the rarities being a bit more authentic without going overkill. 150 hasn't been special in a long time, so I'm kind of excited for that to actually mean something :P
I think the only one right now at risk of becoming anything close to a "problem" is 175 (holiday item) just because of the sheer volume of them. But the vast majority of them were 150 before, it's not really going to be quite a cluster as that became. We only use that rarity for items that are specifically from holidays/events (floaters, specific shops, etc.) and keep themed items in the TS/BHH/mil center/etc. for example 105, free gifts 195, cash shop 125 and such.
I'm almost done with 150 and actually just logged in to chug away at that some more. I am so close!
I have a couple more questions And thanks again for your help!
The Ornate Floral Pitcher didn't get changed back to r99. Is it no longer restocking at seedlings?
Were there still other items that went in the Free Shop which probably weren't supposed to be? For example, I saw two Natashas and one Ornamented Hook Swords about a two or three days ago. I know for sure one user had a Natasha, but they were selling well below Millionaire Center price. I was wondering if there's not just merely a coincidence this would happen around this time.
It's the only potion I forgot. Fixing it now :)
And yeah, there were a few weapons that went out that shouldn't. Like I posted elsewhere though, that's been worked out. :)
j/k we really do love you
Do you guys have to do everything manually or can you at least pull some data automatically? I always feel so bad, hahah! I finished 150 last night, so most if not all of everything left will stay 150. A few things we need to research more (reeeeeally old items) but it's 99% done!
Georgie asked me to answer this:
We started experimenting with pulling data automatically early this month (while I was on spring break and had time to look into this.) We're currently pulling data at a moderately slow rate (10-20 seconds between items; we identify ourself in the agent string), so as to be respectful of the hit rate on Subeta's servers. As a result, it takes some time to update all of the items. We would, of course, welcome the opportunity to work more closely with you on this project, but understand that it can't be a priority for you.
