Hello everyone! I would like to know if someone can tell me what's the working size for CI and what's the one for HA overlays. I still don't know if I have what it takes to create CW's but I will never know if all my attempts end up pixelated as hell when I resize them.

Thanks so much, and ping me please. <3

This really depends on how you like to work. I've seen some people work at twice the size, and some at larger. I personally use twice the size (128x128 for item images and 250x500 for wearables)

If you are having a hard time with items looking pixelated make sure to:

  1. Merge all layers before shrinking to final size
  2. If your resize is a number that's not divisible by an even number, then resize to twice the size before resizing to final size. (So for example say you draw on 200x200, first resize to 128x128 and then 64x64)

If you need an more help let me know! I can offer assistance, and if you have any examples you can show about the resizing issues, I can try to add specific help there n_n

To just add onto the wonderful advice given by Mesmer,

I personally work at 375x750 and I resize by doing the following -

  1. Save as .png (basically merging all layers as Mesmer said)
  2. Resize the png and save

For items, I work at 200x200 and have not had much of a problem with doing the above either, without resizing to 2x first. I always have a png and a gif file for the item, unless it is animated.

Good luck with CWs! If you ever have anything I'd be able to give pointers on, feel free to ask anytime! :)

Thanks, Pika. :D I've had been really scared to ask because... well, usually people don't share their knowledge. I'm really happy I did, and I will ask you too if I need anything else, thanks so much. <3

I personally draw overlays on 250 x 500 (350 x 750 for jewelry or really intricate pieces) 128 x 128 for CIs!

I used to draw super large CIs (400 x 400) - they were honestly more detailed but they took 3x longer which would be fine except once resized it really didn't make much of a difference anymore lol QQ

I primarily draw in SAI (I'll occasionally fix a couple recolors with photoshop, particularly when I need to use the "darken" blending mode which doesnt exist on SAI).

I usually save my 250x500 file (or 128x128 for CI) and then open the PNG in photoshop to resize because SAI tends to resize a bit sharp and it's often lead to pixelated outline appearance n_n
