Is reading books to your pet the only reliable way to increase intelligence? I've been stalking the book shop all day, and I need more!

Also, when you read your pet a book, occasionally it'll say that they've gained 1 alchemy point. What are alchemy points/what can they be used for/where can I access them?

you can play mystic spindles, or use various items too, but books will be your cheapest route for awhile. mystic spindles is apparently only good when you don't have much int, because it takes too long to gain int from it when you have more int.

Alchemy points are used to equip scrolls for battling.

Thanks! Is there any easy way to find cheap books? I bought everything in the book shop, and now I'm only finding maybe one new book every few restocks. Not sure where else to look. I'm back after not playing for around 7-8 years, and I'm totally lost.

Easiest way is probably to make a book list on subetalodge (here I think) and then wishlist all of the ones you need or just keep track through subetalodge. you can sort by price in either place, lodge's list or from your wishlist, which isn't always accurate, but it helps a lot.

You can look on SubetaLodge.org - they have an item database that you can use to search for books, and you can also keep a checklist of books you have and need if you make an account there.

All the books in the book shop will be rarity 1-99. But higher rarity books exist and you can try searching for some of those on Subetalodge and see if any of those are cheap. For instance, r101 is retired books. Game prizes are sometimes cheap too, like the ones given out by Alexander's quests or Quentin's quests.

Also, the book shop is not the only shop that stocks books. There's some books in Seedlings, Atebus shop, and a couple other main shops too. And you should check out the Special shops too, like the Zombie Den has a bunch of books you can buy for sP.

if you go to the Job Center in Centropolis you can get your pet a job. In addition to the income from the job, when you collect your day's wages you also get a random chance of increasing STR or INT.
