So I have really thick hair. After I shower, I usually let my hair air-dry. I don't like putting too much heat on my hair since I straighten it, but letting it air-dry can easily take over 3 hours.
However, sometimes I have to blow-dry my hair right out of the shower. I'm at my 'I'M DONE' moment with taking 20+ minutes to blow-dry my hair, only for it to look super frizzy, and then I still have to straighten my hair afterwards. I know, 'woe is me' but I usually have to allow 1-1.5 hours for a shower/blow-drying/straightening and that doesn't even include getting dressed and make-up if it is needed. I'd just like to see if I can find a good hair-dryer that would be good for my hair and save some crucial time, when I'm in more of a hurry.
I just tried doing some google research but it's so overwhelming. I'd rather have personal experiences and opinions. Unfortunately idk exactly what my current hair-dryer is. It's Revlon but I'm not sure the specs because it was my mom's before.
Any advice?
- I'm interested to see if anyone else can offer you some other advice, but I have really thick hair too and I agree it can be completely frustrating for it to take so long just for my hair to be dried, not to mention straightening time.
What I do - I will let mine air dry for as long as I can, then when it's time to get out the dryer I'll use a hair clip to put up all but a chunk of the underpart of my hair, dry that, then let down another section and dry it. It seems to help because if I just use the dryer without going about it in sections then some spots are dry and others aren't. Also it doesn't seem to frizz my hair out. So, it might be worth a shot! My hair dryer is nothing special but I get by because I don't want to spend some crazy amount of money on a new one if it will only shave a minute or two off the dry time lol.
Oh I know the feeling. I'm kind of cheap when it comes to certain products LOL and I've seen how expensive some nice quality hair dryers can get. If it's a dang good hair dryer and would really help, I'd consider going out of my price comfort zone some.
That's a good idea about dividing your hair into sections though. I don't do that. Maybe a smaller section will dry faster as opposed to your whole head at once basically lol. I'll have to give that a try.
And trust me--I always try to air-dry my hair. I hate how frizzy my hair looks after blow-drying it. Sometimes straightening afterwards will help but it still looks like total frizz at the roots. But sometimes I need to shower before plans/church/etc. and I hate having to wake up an hour and a half earlier just because of my hair bahaha. I try to take evening showers when I can so that I actually have time to air-dry.
If it's any consolation, those expensive dryers really do work. My coworker told me hers gets her out the door pretty quickly in the mornings. Her daughter also has long, thick hair and she said the time it took to blow dry her hair was cut down drastically by using the fancy dryer. I can find out which brand for you if you'd like.
Also, a heat protectant and/or serum would help with frizz. Do you use any products currently for that issue? Have you ever considered keratin or Japanese straightening?

Well it's nice to hear that they at least do work, haha. Depending on how expensive 'expensive' actually is, I'd consider it. It wouldn't hurt to know what the brand is!
Ahaha....right. I'm totally bad when it comes to using heat protectant. I need to get back onto that train. I used to in high school but haven't since lol. It's odd since my hair stylist mentions that my hair is always in good condition even though I don't use it, other than my split ends which is why I'm usually there to get them cut off anyway. I may try Aussie's since I'm currently loving their shampoo and conditioner.
She uses a small green model from Harry Josh and said she bought it on sale after one of her houseguests showed her how well it worked. It looks like it's very popular and has an Allure seal of approval.
I'm curious about Aussie products. I hear a lot of good things about their 3 Minute Miracle line.
Good luck!
