I feel like I should know it. It looks so familiar! But... for the life of me, I can't come up with the name, sob. So. Does anyone know what the inspiration was for Clusterflux?

Gotta be honest, I love absolutely all of the zombies this year. The artists did an /amazing/ job and I'm honestly looking forward to getting all of the 2017 skins. They're all so cool for different reasons, we've got such a wide variety this year that can each be used in a different way, and I love that they follow a theme while still being definitively zombies.

Spoiler! Clusterflux (Dissolving) Final Result Here

Y'all, I don't know what I'm doing. I'm just a nerd who's not used to human interactions anymore.

I think it's based on Cotesia Glomerata, which are a parasitic wasp species that lay their larva inside of a caterpillar host, and the larva then eat the host from the inside out. I could be wrong though.

Although, it may look familiar because I've seen some people comparing it to the Pokemon Reuniclus. lol

no, it reminds me of little fish I think. Little glowing fish.. or bugs.. or something that's in water. I just can't remember what it's called and it's killing me lol. Thank you, though!! Great to know. :D

Algae maybe? It personally reminds me of green algae, other than the fact that algae don't have skeletons.

just posted the answer over in the ">virus tracking thread:

So, they&;re fairly obvious what inspired them... Except for dissolving. Rah PLEASE DO TELL

Hahha, well - we were looking at parasitic insects and THIS IMAGE came up (it's a beetle being eaten alive from the inside out by parasitic wasp larvae) which was the basis of my inspiration. I also spend a lot of time watching Cordylobia Anthropophaga videos, which are mostly just these maggot things which hatch and burrow into the body of creatures to live out their larval stage. (They're very easy to treat by just squeezing them out, it's a popping thing, I can't get enough)

I toyed with doing something very trypophobia-inducing, but we've done that and I was more interested in showing the skeleton. Every year we have a virus that is very skeleton-showy, and the idea of a skeleton in a translucent sac of skin where the muscles and organs have been eaten away by the larvae stuck in my mind. At first I had planned to have a lot more of the matter-eating larvae left in the body, but it looked lovely at the stage I left it at, like they'd created their own zombie water park and could just swim around having the time of their lives.

The belly growing was a total red herring with a callback to butterfly bruise. It was never intended to pop. It was so much fun watching the speculation on this board :)

Bonus muscle that's behind the green skin:

- Yeahhhh. D: I almost clicked the link just because that's my default reaction to links, but then I read that and just like... no. Nope. Not today. Probably never.

That's ok, I didn't want to finish my breakfast anyway.

I DID TOO but I read ahead thankfully because I do NOT do maggots, I saw a really nasty maggot gif once and it scarred me for life so, nope. No thanks. I'm out.
