boop.
You win some, you lose some. I guess everyone who ever applied for Pets here knows this feeling but all you can do is move on and hope for another opportunity. It's frustrating for sure but not the end of the world.
P.S. What others do with their pets shouldn't be anyone elses business.
So choose another name and bring your idea to life anyways? Its far from the end of the world to want an unattainable name. It might take some thinking but there's bound to be a suitable replacement out there if you look for it.
If its a person/character type deal, maybe try their full name, last name, or a nickname. Maybe even the name of a place, object, food, etc that they love. If its a reference to something, try and think outside the box. Is there a word, location, item, or anything else that relates to whatever you're referencing? If its a type of animal, maybe try a "nickname", scientific name, or the name of a popular member of the species. If its an activity, maybe try things relating to it like "Clay" or "Marble" instead of "Sculptor", "Stuffing" or "Yarn" instead of "Ragdoll".
Well, it becomes everyone's business when they write their idea for the pet on an application. I'm not against girl/girl or guy/guy, but the pet went to a new user too-boot.
I'll try other words that relates to that one.
Pretty much agree with everything said. Like in clearings, you win and you lose em'. In adoptions, the pet, in the end, goes to whoever's application appealed to that user specifically and no one else. It does not make anyone's app any better or worse than the next persons. There will always be another name that pops up which will be just as good if not better. Especially if it is for an OC.
Um... who cares if the pet went to a new user? No one is more deserving just for being around longer. And who cares what their idea was? It doesn't matter. Take some time to be bummed because yeah, losing out sucks. Rant to your friends, make vent art, whatever you need to do. But making a public board to call out the pet idea, new owner, and previous owner like this really isn't gonna win you any favor if you apply for more pets.
Not that it really matters, but if you check their user ID, you'll see that they're not a new user at all, they just haven't posted a lot. It took me three years of playing this site every day before I felt comfortable enough to post in the forums. -shrug- Some people just aren't chatty or have other things going on.
And not to knock your app or anything, but the new owner's was longer and obviously their plans appealed more to the adopter. No one ever gets chosen for every name they apply for unless they only go after pets with zero competition. Don't give up on them- maybe ask a friend to read over your app or browse the adoption forum and see what kind of applications are getting peoples' attention.
^ This.
Also, sure it is frustrating to not get a Pet you really really would love to have. I've had this more than once for one character I absolutely adore. Every time the Pet went to someone else, and 4 of them never did anything with the Pet onsite- what doesn't mean at all that there is no character, it can still be off-site and I'm not in the position to judge them for that. (Seeing that some of my pets could be in the same group...)
Just keep trying and maybe one day you'll get another name for the character.
I'm glad I never gave up, because I own the MOST perfect name for him now, and I never thought I'd ever get him because the other applications were just awesome as well.
Eh. Everyone's gone through it who has ever applied for a pet. Not really worth giving up. Just find something related. I once came up with an entire character for a pet I applied for named Cardinal. Loved the character. Person chose to keep it, later adopted it out, and who knows what happened to it. I never bothered looking it up again. I ended up finding the name Defender I believe in a clearing. It fit the concept well enough, so I snagged it. Still like Cardinal more particularly considering it literally inspired the character, sure, but I found a pretty decent name for him. Hope whoever finally ended up with it digs him/her.
I never bother getting my hopes up if I apply anymore, though, so maybe I'm just not as affected. My perspective is usually of the "I'll either be right or pleasantly surprised" variety, sad as that may be.
Overall though not sure it was a good idea to make this thread. I realize it's a vent thread and you wanted to get it out, but... others may be so understanding.
It's really easy to find who you're talking about too, just saying...
Oh dear. This won't end well o.o
(agree pretty much with everything and said)
I'm 99.9% certain this thread is about me, and sadly.. I don't have any words? I guess I'm just disappointed that it would cause such a reaction? This is exactly why I try to avoid posting whenever I can, because I wanted to have a safe place where I could enjoy myself instead of worrying about any silly drama. ;__;
I'm so sorry you feel that way - please know that this is 100% not typical of the adoption process, and it's really crappy that you were made to feel bad because someone chose your app instead. I think it's pretty shitty of the OP to have made this post, and you didn't do anything wrong, so enjoy your new pet and character! I've adopted out several pets before, and I don't always choose the person with the most established account or the most finished pets - sometimes I choose based on enthusiasm, and your app sounded like you were really into the name :) So have fun with it!
Hey, look at it this way; if you give up, you won't have to make threads obviously targeting other users anymore.
Thank you so much for the encouragement and supportive words, I really appreciate it! I have applied for like, one other pet, so since my experience with that sort of thing is small this whole thread was a shock. I'm really glad it isn't a typical thing.
Again, thank you! ; u; I have been doing just that, and I'm super excited to get them all spiffy and spoiled~! :D
Since when did making a topic saying I'm discouraged become "attacking"? You have blown it way out of proportion.
Before you edited your post, you mentioned the person who adopted the pet you wanted decided to use the pet for yuri. It's obvious who you were talking about.
Does it really matter? I wasn't attacking her. I just thought that Yuri/Hentai on the site wasn't allowed, but I guess it is.
Wow, this thread is really not cool. There's complaining about not getting a pet, and then there's calling out another user specifically to whine about their app/plans/account age. And then editing it out to make yourself look better. :/
@ Pantsu Just want to reiterate what said. You've got nothing to feel bad about! Enjoy your new pet. c:
@ Engrave It does, because it makes it easy to figure out who you were talking about. You weren't talking about many pets, you were talking about one, and her new owner. Also, seriously? This is a site owned by a gay man with many gay npcs.
And, if we play devil's advocate and you were talking about multiple people who got pets you wanted instead of just one, it'd still be targeting, afaik. You'd just have been targeting more than one person instead of just the one.
