Think back to when you first obtained your wand. Now, for some of you, you may have inherited your wand from a family member. Some of you may have purchased your wand from other wand makers. Most of you, however, will have purchased your wand from Ollivander's in Diagon Alley! No doubt this is a fond memory for most. I know it was for me. Even though I was home schooled, I still obtained my wand through Mr. Ollivander.

To honor John Hurt's passing (the man who played Mr. Ollivander in the movies), this week's theme is The Wand Chooses the Wizard.

Your challenge this week is to create a human avatar showing you or your character choosing/obtaining their first wand (or having the wand choose them).

Some rules for this challenge: 1.) No Hogwarts Robes (you would have needed your wand before coming to school)! 2.) You must include a wand item in your avatar (or at least something that looks like a wand). If you need help finding a list of wands to use, let one of your admins or prefects know!

Each member may only submit one avatar, and each avatar to successfully adhere to the challenge rules and theme will be awarded 10 House Points!

This challenge ends on Monday, February 13th at 11:59PM.

Private Outfit Elaine Sayre: Slytherin Before coming to Hogwarts Elaine's mother decided it would be a good idea to take a trip from their home to Diagon Alley. While her mother was in the potions shop looking for ingredients for medicine for a sick augery. Elaine found herself wandering around the alley, exploring the shops and studying the Owls and cats at the petstore. She woncered if Japser would be allowed at Hogwarts as he was not a cat, owl or a toad, like it was stated on the letter. As soon as she thought that Jasper raspy cawl was heard, sitting on the sigh of one of the stores. The sign swung under his weight the wooden carving of a wand and the name "Olivander's." She stepped inside the dark room, a man with white hair and a huge smile popped up from beind the counter. He seemed a bit disheveled and nervous. "Hello little one," he spoke "are you starting at Hogwarts this year?" He turned reorganizing the boxes on the roof high shelves. "Um, yessir," She spoke quietly, her Irish accent slurring as her voice trailed off. She heard the cawl again as Jasper stood behind the closed door outside the shop. She cracked the door open and he hopped in, flying to the counter near the old man. Just then, Mr. Olivander jumped, apparently startled by the large black bird beside him, dropping a wand box that was covered in dust. The man picked it up cutting his hand on the sharp corner as the box shook. He set it down on the table, looking for a rag to press the wound. The bird pecked at the box, moving the dusty lid off the box as it thumped. Elaine peek over the counter curiously, pushing the bird away from the box. "Cut it out Jasper, you shouldn't be messin' with things." The box shook in her hands, shocked, she opened the lid, a black dusty yew wand sat inside and began to rise. She dropped the box, reaching out for the beautifly carved wand. "What's this," the man said with a bloody rag in his hand. "I'm soorry," Elaine stuttered "Me bird was after yer box! Me-thinks he thought there was some treats inside." "No harm done, why not try it out? You will be needing a wand at Hogwarts after all." Elaine reached out for the floating wand, feeling the cool wood in her hand, she wiped off the dust revealing an ornately carved wand with a dark laqure. She waved it shyly, feeling it buck slightly as a purple light emerge forming into a black bird. Jasper cawed loudly, no doubt irritated by the intruder. "Wonderful!" Mr. Olivander said gleefully. "Its always easiest when the wand knows who it wants." Elaine raised the want again, muttering the spell, she had heard her mother perform thousands of times on the augeries back home. A white light emerged making an imperfect seal on the man's hand. She frowned. "Well we can't all be perfect at the start." He smiled. "But you better learn some more before you try anything this difficult." Elaine smiled back at the old man, thanking him quietly.
