Just so people know, since it's not being covered by media (even national media, as always)...

Police began a strike this weekend on Espírito Santo, a brazilian state. Since police cannot enter on strike because their salary isn't raised in 7 years (if they paralyze their work for some reason, at least 30% of the police force has to work), they asked their families and friends to camp on the police stations' doors, so they could give the excuse they can't leave the stations.

Streets are a chaos. Lots of armed thieves and groups stealing shops and malls, killing people on the streets... If you search "Espírito Santo" on youtube and filter by date, you'll see a lot of graphic images of bodies laying on streets, thieves shooting at shops, stealing cars, burning bus etc.

The government stated that they won't negotiate with police and police force says they won't come back until their claim. There's a talk that national force is willing to send militar reinforcement, but nothing is announced.

Only the independent media has voice right now, the same thing happens often: during the Olympics, we didn't know that the accomodations were pretty crappy because it was a government issue; during the occupied schools some months ago (against the educational system reform)... Media here is so government-supplied it stinks.

Goshdarnit, Sorry for the long and aggressive message, it just really sux to be living a crappy situation like this and nothing is even covered. Perharps, as always, they start at least giving insights now that independent and social media is making some noise. (On Twitter, the -- Espírito Santo asks for help -- is the 1st topic on TT World)

[edit]It seems that president Temer confirmed that national force is sending militar reinforcements here... And it seems that international media is covering a lot more out situation, as always '-'

[edit]Not sure if this subject is allowed, if it's not, the thread may be deleted...

Yup, I'm alright, thanks. It's just impossible to go on the streets and everything is closed. All the shops downtown are empty... Basically every city on Espírito Santo is dangerous right now

it lasted a little bit over 1 month, now it's oficially over, gladly... after 2 or 3 weeks, the national force sent militars to the main cities (my hometown didn't receive any, so the population was armed on the streets, but in the city I study there was a lot of soldiers and the municipal/national force). During the last week of paralyzation, some policemen returned to the streets, but some of the stations remained "blocked". Now it's everything back to normal, tho... I think the bodies count was around 200 people :/ Everyhting because police was incompetent...

(Explaining better: the wives and friends -- mainly women -- were going to the stations to camp on the doors and block the way of police cars to leave. But it was coordinated by the policemen themselves, and there were a lot of leaked audio involving them saying that they were going on a strike this way because the police can't go on strike without suffering penalties... At least 1/3 of them need to be on the streets, and that didn't happen. It was discovered that the strike was organized by the policemen, but only a few penalties were applied at the end -- really really few. Yes, they were right to claim their rights of salary rise, but they were really rad... Teachers and other government workers sometimes even don't get paid for months and they rarely make a buzz... if it was a teacher or student riot, they would be spanking and throwing pepper spray at them, and they were supposed to keep at least 1/3 of the force active, what they didn't do. It was a really irresponsible movement and resulted in those 200 deaths)

And the militar police from the state of Rio de Janeiro threatened to enter on a riot as well after ours ended, but it wasn't allowed, the movement was really smaller and they were punished before starting something.
