Short version: Trump temporarily bans people from several countries (all are mostly Muslim) from entering the U.S., regardless of their legal status. There's a few exceptions.
headdesk
EDIT: If the White House website is giving you trouble, CNN and some other sites have the full text.
THERE IS A FEW EXCEPTIONS ™ Yeah. Of course.
Your source is not working for me (it leads to his signup thingie) and when I opt out of it it takes me to the main page of the white house?
Oh, this isn't the best of this!
Through various sources (NY Times, CNN, MSNBC, etc), the countries banned from traveling to the US are not directly "enemies" of the US and have no connections to the 9/11 terror attacks. If anything, those countries are DISTINCTLY MISSING from the list. (One of the "detainees" was an 18 month old kid.)
This was also used to sneak in a new appointee too! Meet Stephen Bannon, your new resident batshit crazy neo-Nazi who has been on the record of proclaiming his want to "destroy the state" [Source for this.]
In short, YIKES.

Steve Bannon, a man with no diplomatic or military experience, has now been granted a permanent seat on the national security council, while the joint chiefs of staff, the foremost commanders and experts on the US military, have been moved back to advisors rather than permanent council members. All the headlines the past week are just smoke and mirrors to mask more horrendous things. Cover up your vicious with slightly less vicious. Welcome to Berlin 1932. Enjoy the history as it happens, stand firm and don't participate in horrible.... its about to get a whole lot worse.
- Why is the White House website being annoying? CNN and some other sites have the full text also.
- So, someone who should have absolutely nothing to do with national security is now on the National Security Council... What is even happening anymore?
Welcome to 1910 Germany. History is repeating itself and I'm terrified. [edit]I say 1910 because things are setting up for a massive war, an even larger downfall and everything else that comes with both. Not quite WWIII but... close.

Ha! Thank you for this link.
I'm wondering about the few exceptions as well because legal U.S. residents are being shut out. In related news, today's Google Doodle honors =Fred+Korematsu&oi=ddle&hl=en">Fred Korematsu, a survivor of the Japanese internment camps.

The thing that bothers me the most is that he didn't ban anyone from countries he has businesses in. All this dope of an elect cares about is money and being important. I really don't think he wants to be president at all, I think he just wants to be on top. ) most terrorists from 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia, but he didn't ban them from there because of the money. 2) 99.9% of Muslims and Middle Eastern people are GREAT PEOPLE. Just because a couple of radicals from here and there stand out doesn't mean every single body from these countries is a terrorist and should be banned from the US.

unfortunately, this ban is just a distraction. Trump is using the American people against themselves to further his agenda. While we are all looking to the unfairness of the ban, which is absolutely RIDICULOUS, Trump was firing the 4-star general in charge of the Intelligence Agencies And he put a conspiracy website manager in his place. This is beyond DANGEROUS. Keep your eyes on Bannon.

Oh, it keeps getting better! I'm gonna be sick...
There's murmurings now in certain circles (I haven't found sources on this past a couple relatively local newstations, two are out of DC so) stating that Trump wants to use this travel ban thing to target American citizens of the Muslim faith.
Not to mention, there's discussion outright of him repealing the vast majority of the LGBTQIA+ protection laws so if you're out, outed or any form thereof, you can be fired again for it.

I'm going to link this here because Trump has said he's following the 7 countries that were listed under H.R. 158 which was passed by Obama in 2015 and Obama's detainment of Iraq refugees in 2011.
The thing is, NEITHER banned anyone from entering. Obama's H.R. 158 required people that had visited those seven countries within a certain time period or were dual nationals of those seven countries to get a visa to enter the US. Similarly, the Iraqi ban that Trump said happened in 2011 was a review of the visa process after it was discovered that two Iraq refugees that were living in Kentucky had ties to roadside bombings of soldiers in Iraq. It slowed down the visa process because they were reviewing the current visa process at the time, but Iraq refugees were never barred from entering the US. They were still entering the U.S but it was just taking longer to process them.
Trump's executive order outright banned anyone from those seven countries from entering.
Also, I agree that this was to distract from the fact that Bannon was elected to the National Security Council and the fact that two high ranking officials that dared to oppose him were fired.
It's a political equivalent of a magic show. ;___;
produces the Bill of Rights Now you see them! waves wand Now you don't!

I stopped in at my local public library this afternoon to pick up a book and there was a giant display of the Bill of Rights with pictures (for President's Day). I turned to my sister and said, "someone needs to mail that to the White House ASAP"
Trump would probably claim it was fabricated at this point.

I'm really glad some judges are actually BLOCKING this ban. I urge people to enter as soon at they can. We don't know how long this will hold and I really want people to be safe.
I'm still speechless about the "6 topics issues" only. I'm just ??? how.
It depends on how far up this goes, but I expect the case to eventually end up before SCOTUS since it's been appealed at the appeals court level now. The decision from the 9th circuit court is supposed to go down officially today so I guess we'll see if they choose to uphold the Seattle court judge's decision or not.
