sorry for the ignorance, but i was wondering about why pets with low ID's are such a priority to a lot a users? is it just because their birthdays will be much older and that's a way to identify it? i get the appeal of older pets but i was wondering if the low ID has any other appeal

I never fully understood it either. I think it's because it's considered "rare" and therefore desirable for that, but aside from that, I an't really figure it out. A simple number that I don't see very often if ever has never been something that added any value to me. Same thing with real word pets, people seem to go gaga over those and I don't see the appeal of them over any other name either.

As far as I'm aware, it's just a status thing, like having an older account.

To be honest I thought it started because it meant a smaller id and therefore shorter url for pets. Yes you can do it by name, but when you name change a pet a lot of whatever reason, it is easier to link to them with their ID than their name. But yeah I can totally see it as a status play

I like the idea of having pets that have been around on the site for a long time. :D Also, on a site where you can change everything else about a pet, the name, the species, the color, rather easily, it's just kind of a fun thing to have, knowing that is one thing about the pet that can never be changed.

Exclusivity and status.

You can change species, color, gender, name of a pet, but the one thing that can't be changed is the pet's id. A lot of people like having certain IDs because older IDs carry exclusivity with them since they're the only one on site with that ID.

Throwing in my two cents here - personally I attach more easily to low-ID pets. Newly created ones feel more 'shallow' to me, and with that it makes it difficult for me to connect properly with their character, regardless of nice names or looks. There is the occasional exception, but in general, low-ID pets (even newly adopted ones) are the ones that become most deeply ingrained into my account, and which I really wouldn't want to let go of. High-ID pets, on the other hand, drift through quite easily & without too much hesitation. Maybe I'm just some kind of nostalgic or sentimental or whathaveyou, but anyway, that's why low-ID pets are significant to me. ~

I think it's different for every user who like to have pets with low ID's. For me I like pets under 1mil and it's not really a status thing, but more along the lines of me enjoying a challenge 8D. All my pets have names starting with E so why not add have pets with ID's under 1mil into the mix. XD That's my 2 cents.

I prefer low IDs, too but lately this quirk of mine has become less important for me so about 10 of my current Pets are actually out of my ID range and I'm too lazy to change that. Doesn't mean however that I would ever adopt my low IDs out, they are still special to me.
