When I was a newer player, I never held on to hardly any item and I sold a lot of things even though they were supposed to be "special". Things like plot prizes, I just got rid of what I didn't want. Years later I find that I'm buying back a lot of things that I already got rid of before, but for a heftier price. Usually buying things back because I've become more sentimental/nostalgic and want reminders of things I actually participated in.
But years ago I sold something I thought I'd never need, for a bit over 5mil. Today it's on my wishlist and costs 20mil more. Slapping myself on the forehead over this! Now I'm more careful about hanging onto unique items :P
I know the feeling! A couple years ago, I sold my practically my entire holiday gallery filled with retired items that used to be restockable at the Holiday Shop. I really regret it now, seeing as a lot of those things are achievement items and go for several million.
...
I can relate as well 😛 Now I keep mostly everything I've earned or already bought and think very long and hard before selling anything expensive. It usually means less to spend in the short-term, but I usually burn my sP on one-use items like boosters anyway.
Well at least I'm not alone :D... Ouch :( Subeta has shown me that hoarding pays off, as much as staff says not to do it and that it's not good/won't help/blah blah, I beg to differ- and actions speak louder than words. Experiences like this just makes me want to hoard at least 1 of everything. I'm big on pet TCs (which is where this now 25mil item comes into play), and the problem is that I can't see into the future and know what items I'll want for new themes... 😩 Now I just put all my unique/special/prizes into my gallery in case I need them for things like this! :P
LOL, I'm not sure when hoarding will not pay off. Hoarders will always benefit in some way (just look at the item drives from the last plot) 😛 But I think if you've earned something or it can be / has retired, there's nothing wrong with holding onto it until you're sure you don't need it anymore.
I have a semi-opposite problem. Where I keep everything and it's all in my vault and I am afraid to sort through it because it's a giant mess x.x;;

@ Jess true :) @ Zay I know that you do that all too well :P I'm not at that point of hoarding, I have some things in my vault but less than 1 page in each category, all neatly sorted. You should clean out your vault.
EDIT:
I didn't include the item at first because I didn't want people to think I was trying to beg or something haha (also why I don't want to bump the thread with this info so I'm editing it here)
look in here
it was the which long ago I got from a . Back then I thought meetups would last forever. I didn't even give second thought to opening my bag and even selling off what I didn't want at the time. Now I collect horses for a TC so facepalm
Haha, same boat as you. It took me 7-8 years to learn to hold onto everything. Can I ask what the item was?
I would, but you never know when you may need something lol

see: every single suboutique item ever for me
heck it was bad enough at a smaller scale when i first joined (like a year or so) with, what was it, that pendant that gave you a white wolf on your ha (from a collection box maybe)? it was back when it was only like 2mil. but i could barely hold on to 100k at the time and finally like 2 years later got it for around 4mil. had enough to get a second, but it didn't even cross my mind, and not even 2 years later it was going minimum like 20mil.

It took me like, a solid year to get around to deciding I was over CWs in TCs (because everything cool these days is private and I'm just not one of the cool kids so why have five items that're relevant when you can't have these other three). Even during the selling process it was like "aw but I like that one" "IF I CHANGE MY MIND I WILL NEVER GET THIS BACK" etc.
The end result was a new lesson learned: now I have a few buttloads of csc and there's nothing to buy with that much because sP is worthless. So now I'm just sitting here like I guess I can move names around on IDs like 9304853 times... or boost.
Oh, ouchhh. I never even knew that item existed.
Lol this is one of the things with Subeta I will never get the hang of, and that's knowing when to sell something and when to keep it, because you just never know what it might be worth in the future. I've held onto things that I thought would be special later on and worth a lot, and you can buy them at several hundred SP now. You can just never tell.
That sounds just like me. I just realized I never did finish resorting my old galleries, & some of those items are still tied up in the old galleries & have to be pulled back out & restocked & reorganized in new ones. Just the thought of it makes me cringe, but I should get around to doing it to see if anything went up in value. (One of my galleries is event items, & I used that as a catch-all for anything I got in events or anything like that so I could remember where they came from. My vault is a mess as it is. xD)
I was surprised to see a few of my minions shot up in value. It makes me wonder if my habit of keeping almost everything ended up being a good idea or not.
