This item [item2=Tarnished Gold Disks] bothers me. It is from the Bad Omens plot. (I only got around to buying my prizes now because no way was I gonna deal with 502/504)
Gold. An important thing about it, that makes it interesting? It does not tarnish.
Only pure gold that is too soft to be used as jewelry doesn't tarnish. [edit] So all gold does tarnish. Pure gold is typically too soft to use as jewelry for practical reasons. Here is my citation from the Gemological Institute of America. I had no idea this was such a touchy subject! 😆

Pure gold does not tarnish, however, it's possible for gold mixed with other metals to tarnish.
So, pretty much only 24-karat gold is fine.
This might come as a surprise, but... Gold jewelry does tarnish.
Gold shouldn't tarnish, it rarely can but that's primarily why it's used in wedding bands. They have found Celtic gold jewelry - pure gold (too soft! HA!) - that predate modern society. I can't find the Smithsonian article right now because it keeps taking me to jewelry sets I can buy (for $3000) so it's like... yes, Subeta's misinformed.

I haven't got a clue about gold or any ore/jewelry/whatever but this topic is like a magnet for me right now. Thank you, guys!
If you want to be really pedantic (and I do), there is nothing to suggest they are even supposed to be made of gold (the metal). They could instead be made of some other metal or alloy which appears gold (the colour), and would therefore be more prone to tarnish. All that glisters and all that.
While we're talking about items with terrible names
Please remove the 2012 part of the name, I cringe everytime I see them and I actually love these minions
This topic is beautiful. Don't ever change, subeta.

Isn't this the same plot we drove a pizza delivery car up a mountain that earlier had ravines and other obstacles that we had to fill up in order to proceed? Tarnished gold isn't the most outlandish thing from that plot.
I'm actually curious, why is the 2012 part such an issue? I'm sure it's in the name as they were released as part of the 2012 new year celebrations.
This is from a jeweller company website. It explains that gold below 14 karat can tarnish and the last paragraph is about how to clean tarnished gold.
Because the 2012 part completely ruins the name and their versatility, the same way a pretty shirt with an obnoxious 7 printed on it loses its gusto.
We lose nothing by renaming them to Singing Bird/Fish/Rabbit. The description states that they're new year items already.
Huh, I suppose so, but I guess I myself still don't see any loss of coolness in the items whether the 2012 is there or not. Maybe I'm just a bit weird, though I definitely agree that it wouldn't hurt the items to remove them, but I don't think I'd be more interested in those items if it were removed either. I'm pretty sure I'd like them all the same as the 2012 part doesn't really impact me.
