I'm having to move sooner than I thought I was going to, because the house I live at is for sale. Unfortunately, my fiance and I can't afford a place on our own without struggling.

I've found a roommate before, but I was single back then. We also have to be in a specific area because of my fiance's two jobs and he can't drive. I've been using Craigslist, but have only gotten one legit response and have found only one person willing to take a couple (they didn't work out). I want to try other sites, but the ones I've found require you to pay.

Does anyone know a safe site I can use that doesn't have hidden fees? Or maybe you have some other advice?

Are there any Facebook groups for people in the area looking for roommates or sublets? You could even try Facebook groups for locals of the area, that aren't specific to roommate search, but just post about your situation and see if anyone would be willing to help or knows anyone who's looking for roommates.

You might have an easier time finding housing if you can expand the area you're looking in. Even if you two can't drive, maybe you could look into other options like getting a bike, public transportation that might be available, or your fiance could ask coworkers about carpooling with them to and from work. It would give you a wider radius for searching for roommates.

@ tinker - I honestly don't know about the Facebook groups. I only have about 10 friends on Facebook, and I talk to most of them frequently in person or through Skype. The others are either people I want to delete or out of the area. And I think I'm too nervous about posting in a general area group. It's a good idea though and I'll keep it in mind.

I drive, and I'm usually the one to drive my fiance to and from work. But, we live in a highly populated area and I have anxiety about traffic, so I'm not okay driving for over 2 hours a day frequently. He takes Uber during high traffic times, but that can get too expensive if used all the time. Our bus system sucks in that it can take 2 1/2 hours to go somewhere that is 15 minutes away. The co-worker carpool is an idea, but he also has anxiety about asking others for help.

This is more difficult than I thought it was going to be. ;^;
