Eek what a cutie! I kind of love the name, genderlessness, and the species/color. I always thought it would be cool to come up with a character for a genderless pet. I'd love to adopt Gambeson! I'm thinking it would be a wanderer who appears to others on their travels. Speaking cryptically, it gives advice or help along the way. It's existence is kind of a myth, stories of it are passed on at taverns where the weary travelers stop for the night. Although many have heard the stories, nobody knows whether or not they're true, until coming upon Gambeson themselves.
