I loved it too! <3

Quick thoughts but no spoilers I felt that it was maybe a bit too long though! I think it could have had some snippets edited out. I also thought that the music was a bit unbalanced. There was much more singing and dancing in the first half of the movie than the second half. And I felt that the opening scene didn't fit very well with the theme of the movie. But overall it was super good! I think Gosling and Emma Stone were the perfect choices c:

I was really looking forward to La La Land because it seemed like a homage to old Hollywood musicals. 8D Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone were great. Especially Ryan Gosling. Oh my goodness, can you say DAPPER? O I think he stole the show. What an accomplished dude, learning to play the piano. His tune is haunting. Dreamy. Love it. ;O;

but and here's a big BUT and anyone who hasn't seen it do not read this because spoilers

seriously don't read if you haven't seen it HOLY -----

what kind of ending was that I'm just floored we had this epic journey of whimsy and it ended with them apart and her with a husband and kid to boot?! like how long did she wait to get over him?! and yeah, to be fair, maybe it was his fault too maybe Seb didn't bother and she had no choice to get over him but anyway it doesn't matter, they're both apart

and that's what killed the movie for me, the ending not necessarily because it was sad but it felt contrived Seb could have made his jazz club work somewhere else just to be with her it's Paris, it's not the end of the world their whole nonchalant where are we? we'll see where this goes I guess /shrugs seemed so OOC

and then to further make shit worse, they gave us a proper la la land montage of their what if they were still together lives and broke my heart further

so I think the moral of the story is ... was it (your dream) worth it? was it worth sacrificing that love? because sweets, you two looked happier in the what if montage though I guess everyone always looks better in those because the grass seems greener on the other side

anyway, I think the whole whimsical singin' in the rain quality to the movie deserved a better ending we got enough cynicism and sadness irl imo this movie was like HA we're going to pay homage to old musicals but we're going to rip them apart in the end for "realism" which seemed contrived and unneeded

UGH T______________T I literally would have taken another sad ending like one of them dying idk not a oh but I had a kid with another man like one or two years later when we show no character progress but a time jump but ofc "I will love you forever" stop cheapening it maybe and then I'll believe you? /shrugs

I guess I'm a hopeless romantic and not a realist or proper cynic

also edit: I guess what's additionally bothering me is how they both got their dreams especially her hitting it big when that seemed less realistic than them together :s

crap did I write a lot
