I could list a whole bunch of specific things, but I'll start out general. I am very confused about the purpose of a lot of items on this site and I don't know what to do with them. Things like scraps of fabric and bookmarks, lots of things in the special category, and what to do with things labeled holiday...do a lot of items have hidden uses? Are a lot just for fun and decoration? I tend to hoard, especially when I don't know what something is for or worth so I'm starting to feel a little bogged down by my inventory. I've also been off the site for a long time and I think a lot of things have changed. So, questions: What items have hidden uses? (Can I use "violet scrap of fabric" somewhere?) How do I know if an item is just a decorative item (is there a list somewhere?) If I'm not going to battle with my pets, is there any point to having food?
I have so many questions, if someone would be willing to answer a few, or just give me a general guide to understanding the types of items, or a link to something that details them and their various uses, I'd really appreciate it. I just want to get rid of a lot of items that I don't need.
Since I've been away a while there are a lot of other things I'm confused about too, so if someone wouldn't mind being a little patient with me, again I'd appreciate it. I'm basically a newbie, despite joining years ago!
Pretty much what you said, many items are for fun and decoration! Users can use things like the "violet scrap of fabric" in galleries or a pet's treasure chest.
You can always check http://www.subetalodge.org/ when in doubt of the usability of a item. Another useful link is http://www.subetalodge.org/page/name/genetech_combos - this list items that are "useless" but can be combined to make other items! I think this would count as hidden use?
If you are not going to battle, the only other use for food is for the Gourmand achievement. If you feed a high number of unique foods to your pet you will get achievements and a forum title. Other than that, just check them in one of the "hotels" or just leave them starving, lol.
I wish I could offer more help but it's hard to use subeta on a phone. D; I'm sure you will find many helpful people, tho! And subetalodge is a heaven of information, take a look around the site, it helped me a lot when I joined the site.
omg don't encourage people to starve their pets, !
Some foods have multiple uses (like there are a few wearable foods, some minion foods, etc). Mostly though, people feed their pets for the Gourmand achievement. The Inns/Hotels Skitters mentioned are the Lakeside Resort in Riverside and Rathskeller Inn if you have access to the Omen Islands (which you get access by completing the map).
Feel free to ping me at any point if you have any questions! There are also a lot of helpful users that love to help out, too!
Subeta is very item intensive and you will need to develop a strategy that works for you. I Vault things, and have two shops I use for temporary storage.
Right now it is possible to earn around 4MsP per day from doing all the quests granted daily. I find it is useful to hover over each item I'm not sure of and if it's 50KsP or less I figure I can buy it again later if I need it as this is such a small portion of my (possible) daily income. Those items I sell/donate without looking at them any further.
Quickstock is a tool that is useful for automatically checking if an item is in Wardrobe, so you can do this anytime your Inventory is full, if you are not picky about how big your closet gets. If you have a GA you can quickstock Collection items or use the autoadd from the Games page. These are good automatic sorters that don't require you to think much about any particular item's storage.
If you click on an item in your inventory, it will show you most of the things it can be used for. Things like Genetech combinations won't show up there, but unless you're looking for specific combos you really wouldn't need to keep the items for them or keep track of what items those are. I personally would just chuck it in my shop.
Rarities are mainly to tell you where an item came from, not what it does. Holiday Items are things like Trick-or-Treat or Pumpkin Patch items from Morostide, anything you buy in a seasonal holiday shop, floating items, etc. The "Special" rarity is full of random things currently and and were working on moving those items to other rarities. So looking at the rarity for those isn't all that useful.
In addition to Subetalodge like linked, you can also search for items at the Item Directory in Centropolis for their uses c:
Okay. Yeah I'll keep trying with Subeta Lodge. Aside from lab combos, are they any other uses for items that might not be obvious? Sorry if that's really vague. The book, food, clothing, plushie etc categories I get, but things like "hobby"...should I just assume that if it doesn't have a clear use/isn't on the lab list then it's just for fun?
To be honest, I'm not going to start feeding my pets again unless I get into back into battling (but then I get enough of battling creatures from Pokémon). I don't really care enough to pursue Gourmand at this point (working on Book Worm with my pets first) but I've always got it in the back of my mind.
There's wearable food? 0.o I'll just keep trying to add everything to my wardrobe just in case :D I know some minions are edible, but I'd rather have the minions for now (just discovered the zoo, now I have to take apart my Gallery).
Oh right the map. Don't think I ever finished that. So much to do!
One more question for now: I have 5 loyalty boxes (O_O) and am planning out what to do with them. If I get the Loyalty treasure box, does that just add to all current pets or will it apply to future pets as well? I am thinking about getting another if I can, but I don't want it to be left out of extra treasure. (Did the pet limit go up? I have 5/10 apparently.)
I might activate one of my "1 Week Gold Account Medals" to help me organize and get my shops set up again (mine all broke/disappeared).
I love this site but I sure feel overwhelmed. I wish there was a search feature! I'll just keep asking my own questions...
Thank you all for helping me!
"Hobby" items are just for show. I'd say probably 90% of the time, an item's use(s) can be checked just by clicking on it. Tinctures, layer cards, and Alchemy tokens can be used with the Underground Alchemist. That is pretty much those items' only use. There's Fantine's Bakery, some items are also ingredients there (but there are no related achievements or anything at the moment, all the ingredients are edible and all you can make are more edible items so if you're not going for Gourmand, you might prefer to just sell those items for now). I can't think of anywhere else "hidden" that you might use items like that.
The pet limit did increase, everyone has 10 base pet slots instead of 5 of those being tied to a GA now. The treasure totem only counts for pets you have currently, and honestly it's really not worth it imo since TC slots only cost 50k each or less if you buy them from the Pets page.
There definitely is a lot of stuff to take in and it takes some getting used to. I do highly recommend Subetalodge, and those of us in Help + Questions are always willing to answer questions too c:
Okay. Thank you. I think I got it in my head that things were much more complex than they really are!
There's also some empty containers that can be filled at Peke glade, but some can change your pet so be careful about using it after filling the container. There's also a few minions that can be combined with others and most seeds can be planted in the gardens.
I'd be glad to help with any other questions in the future too. Just comment me anytime.
Ah yes! I think I have an empty flask, don't remember if it's the right one, or how to do that, but I'm not currently looking for a Glade pet so I'll worry about that later. Is minion combining just in the Lab or is there somewhere else? I'm collecting minions and combining them sounds fun. I planted some seeds I found recently, but I don't know what the point is :) it just seems like fun.
Oh while I'm here I have another unrelated question. There isn't any guaranteed way to get a specific experiment pet, is there? I would love a but I am incredibly impatient with random generators.
is the one that makes a Glade Potion. All other filled containers will turn your pet into the camel experiment
can change your pet into any species, including experiments, but it's pretty expensive. That's the only way, but in addition to zapping, you can try which will turn your pet into a random experiment. Those are given out by the Bathhouse so they're not too expensive
Yikes. Guess my "Empty Glass Flask" is worthless to me then! Hmm, I guess I can mess around with the bathhouse potion at some point. I mean if I can get five more pets...I can sacrifice a few to science... But the zapper is too unpredictable for me. I'm glad there's another way!
you can always tell if an item is wearable or not because all wearable items will show a preview of what they look like on your avatar when you hover over them - no need to guess.
as far as zapping, you can improve your odds by selecting the 'experiment only' option, which costs 400k sP per zap (in addition to the regular 15 wizard token cost). this guarantees you will get an experiment, and the zapper won't miss or destroy an item or otherwise do something useless. of course, there are still an awful lot of experiments so while the chances are greatly improved, getting the experiment you want is still up to luck.
anyway, yes, most items on the site are just for fun. a lot of users like to give their pets extensive themed treasure chests, or collect items they like in a gallery. i have a gallery full of otherwise useless items, most of which have little resale value, but i keep them because i think they look nice.
btw have you seen this topic regarding shops? New Shop Guides
Wearables I'm good with -- but when my inventory is bogged done it's just easier for me to try and transfer everything into wardrobe than check each item. Also my computer is old and slow and wardrobe items don't display as well as they should for me. I don't really have tokens...I remember they weren't fun for me to obtain (I'm a bit lazy and impatient). It's good to know there's a safer way to use the zapper, in case I do get more tokens...
I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THAT TOPIC! THANK YOU. My shops were...ugh. Okay, I transferred my stuff out of my old shops and will delete them soon.
Tokens come from Wizard Quests, and quests are really fast now (I'm still too lazy for them most days too so I don't blame you there lol) but now there's a Shop Search button underneath each item, no more copying and pasting the item names. I get 350 Tokens a day, I think it's 250 without a GA?
Ah no more tedium! I used to hate quests, I think it was because of that. Yeah I think I was gone for 2, almost 3 years. Lots of changes since then... :D I can activate a gold account for a bit too and stock up on currency.
Don't know if you thought about it, but you should lock your Loyalty Boxes in your inventory (they can only be deleted or opened, but not moved anywhere!). That way, they are safe from the zapper and random events that could steal/destroy them! I accidentally zapped one of my Loyalty Boxes years ago :c
actually loyalty boxes, which now have a special 'untradeable' rarity, as well as some other rarity items (custom wears, not sure about cash shop items) cannot be destroyed by the zapper anymore, and there are no more random events that take your items, either.
oh, really? Well that is some good news, thanks, I didn't know that was changed... forget what I said, haha :D
So let me ask then, what is the point of keeping anything in my vault, if I'm not using the zapper? If nothing else can harm my items, can't I just keep everything in my inventory? I have some stuff in there from ages ago, and I'd like to take them back out because I forgot I even had them! Also since the interest was removed in my absence, is there any point in keeping my money in the bank?
This is all assuming I never touch the zappers. If nothing else can harm my items or money, why keep them in the bank?
