original post, and original problem solved. Thanks, people!
So I run into a problem involving Experiment :(
Basically I love 76166 A LOT. Victim has been one since about 7 years ago, and I have a really simple overlay for him (click here), because he loves plants. I'm kinda very attached to him being the 76166 even though it may not makes sense to others. About a few years back, I turned him into a glade Bhakoru, but ended up turning him back to the 76166.
Now, I recently adopted Grendel, and finished the story for him, and I couldn’t think of any other species for him besides the 76166. I’ve tried the chibi version of it, but it doesn’t work. To make it worse, I tried to zap Grendel into different experiment pets, but I kept getting 76166 on almost every other zap (zapper are you trying to tell me something?)!
I admit that even though their stories are quite different, the basic idea is the same: people perceive those who are different as dangerous, and end up hurting them, which is probably why I want both of them to be the same pet xD.
So…..do you think I should:
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated ❤!
OK, thanks for the help, guys. I think I'm going to keep Grendel as a 76166. But I will have to find a color/species for Victim, one of the earliest characters I have created on subeta.
I know his story is kinda long, so here's a bad summary
Basically, Leon was punished for being the son of a fortune teller (also known as a witch to the town people). He was kinda trapped in his childhood mentally, because there was almost no interaction between him and the rest of the town when he was young. He learned to grow plants and flowers, and was just naturally good at it, AS IF he knew magic that could keep the plants exceptionally healthy. The elders in the town got scared by this (also were threatened by the fact that younger people in the town liked Leon's flowers and were not too affected by the whole witch thing), and burned Leon's garden down. In the end, Leon got angry, and threatened the town like his mother did, but he really had no ability to actually hurt anyone. But the town people decided to burn him alive as well. However, none of the ill curses from the witch or her son ever came true, but plants in Leon's burned down garden started to grow by themselves as if somebody was taking good care of them.
I feel that graveyard might be too depressing and hopeless for Leon's case. Although most glade pets are too cheerful, there are a few that looked more peaceful than cheerful, and I'm debating between:

However, please free free to point me to another pet. I know sometimes I get to fixated on a certain things xD.
[edit] I decided to wait a bit to see if there are new releases (regardless of color) that will give me the right vibe. Right now, Victim will stay as a field zentu. Thank you all so much for the input!

Having read both stories, I feel like I'd go with . Grendel embodies the 76166, whereas when I read Victim's story, I kept wondering why you were so set on that particular pet for him. I feel like graveyard would be more appropriate, as glade seems too cheerful, even though it'd be ironic in this case (seriously, dude, wtf - that story got me a bit choked up!).
Good luck! :D
Thanks for the advice, and thanks for reading their stories!
I know what you mean about Victim! But somehow 76166 worked for me, and somehow that image almost got imprinted on my mind over the years xD. It's really hard to explain why I want him to be 76166. But if I find the right pet, I think I'll be willing to change him. My main issue is it's hard to find more emotionally neutral pet on subeta, because glade is too cheerful (or too naughty for a few of them), while graveyard is a bit too sad (because I mean, he lived on through his plants and flowers, so it's really more bittersweet).
Hmmm...decisions decisions xD...

Totally get it - you get hung up on an idea and then it's impossible to get away from it! Ordinarily I'd say go with your gut, but I feel like the fates are trying to tell you something with Grendel's zaps :P
What about the with the same overlay modifications? The pose looks a little hunched, like it's shy and withdrawn, and maybe a bit awkward, but not evil in any way.
I also like the 696 chibi - but with some vines/flowers added in to show that Leon is dead (hi, skelly) but still "alive" through his plants. And chibi because he stayed childlike, and that pose reads as very innocent to me.
Those are the ones that stood out to me when I looked through colour options, but you obviously know him better XD
I thought so too. It's destiny xD! I was more willing to change Grendel in the beginning, but then, the zapper totally changed my mind. And I seriously think maybe Victim should get a makeover. Now I think back, another reason was probably that we didn't have as many options as we have now 7 years ago, so Victim might have just got stuck in that 76166 suit.
I love your suggestions, but I already have 2 experiment (a common one and a chibi one) xD. Funny that you mentioned it though, because my common was created around the same time as Victim. The chibi 696 sounds like a fun idea too! I'll definitely think about it! Thanks again :D!

Jumping in to say that I agree 76166 is perfect for Grendel! At first I thought maybe he was based on the Beowulf monster, and I was STILL gonna say it's perfect! (I adore Beowulf :P)
Although after reading the story, it does sorta remind me of a modern day Beowulf tale! Did you have that in mind when you wrote it? Either way, awesome pet ❤
EDIT: Also send me some 76166 vibes... trying to zap Serannian into one :P
@ LoftyBalloon Ah, yes, you got it right! Grendel's story is definitely inspired by the original Beowulf story. I'm glad you like it ❤! I guess I'm keeping him as the 76166 for sure now at this point.
"also sends 76166 vibes* They just seem to like me A LOT LOL! Best of luck zapping!

Echoing everyone else, the experiment is perfect for Grendel. While most of the glade pets are too cheery for Victim there are a few that are more reserved and could suit him. I'd probably go for one of these two:

I like how childlike and shy the donadak looks, and the harvester represents death while staying serene and vaguely fortune/magic-related. I love that he's put down his scythe to interact with the flowers instead, that feels right for Leon. I do also like the 'cursed child' imagery the chibi 696 has while the pet itself looks relatively content

Thank you for the input! I am very tempted by the harvester at this point indeed!

i'm going to second the harvester, it looks like it's manipulating the plants with magic and has a slightly eerie/somber/otherworldly feel to it, so i think it's the most appropriate.
Grendel is perfect as he is. ❤️
I'd use the Glade Irion for Victim. Mainly because I like it more than the others you listed, and the beak kinda reminds me of Jean Reno's nose. xD Also, why shouldn't he look a bit peaceful? (:
Thanks for the input! At this point, my head is telling me the harvester, but my heart is telling me the irion or illumis xD...I'm so bad at making decisions like this :(...

I feel your pain! ;o; Deciding how to paint a Pet is always so difficult, especially if you have more than two options and have to decide between them. :(
I kinda hate myself because I actually don't 100% like any of the fitting options :(...which is why it's so hard to make the decision. Though I do like your point on the nose, since I want the pet to have a similar vibe as the human reference (since the ending is kinda a hat tip to my favourite movie of all time, Leon the Professional, because I've always been hoping that Leon's plant will grow big and strong and forever).
headdesk

i feel like the harvester would fit appropriately, especially if you could mute the colors a little to give it a more sombre feel. perhaps instead of all the green, have it as a grey-ish teal/grey-ish emerald green.
but thats just me. ;u;

In that case definitely go for the 'heart says' option! If it fits but maybe not quite as well but you like it better anyway it's the One
