I have a month to prepare for leg surgery after the surgery I can't even touch my foot to the floor..I have steps leading to door on my house..not sure how im going to get up and down them..I have a tub/shower no clue how im going to get in and out..Tub comes up to my knee.I have a solo shower but the thing that closes the door on the inside of the shower fell off and was lost.No clue how im going to cook or do anything..I was told recovery would be a long process..SO how do I go about my shopping?Lot's to figure out..Any advice?
No I don't have someone who can shop for me.No I don't know what the part that fell off my shower door was called the door has 2 screw holes is all I know.
Im currently trying to move things in my rooms so getting around will be easier. I plan on getting a loofah thing on a stick. going to look into a cross body bag since I won't be able to carry my handbag. Found out a shower latch is less than $10.00 and only takes a screwdriver and screws to install. So I will go to store and get one.
I can't even afford to buy groceries every month I use gift cards I earn online to pay for my groceries.Local churches are a joke.I asked for help after the wreck they said I didn't meet there standards but if you are on parole and have a record of drugs and theft they will help you..But someone with no record they won't help.
So far I found this recipe which I can freeze jambalaya biscuits bean and cheese burrito

I assume that you'll have a wheelchair to get around? Or crutches? Or maybe one of those cool little knee scooter things. As far as the steps go, is there someone in your family or a friend that can build a ramp for you? Just something temporary? If there's no one to do so, you might also ask a local organization like a church or a local charity if they can help. I know asking for help sucks, but sometimes we have to swallow our pride and just do it. Everyone needs help at some point.
As far as the tub goes, put a small stool or chair next to it that you can sit in first and then sort of swivel yourself into the tub, maybe with another smaller seat in the tub itself, so that you can ease yourself in in steps. They might sell something at Meijer/Walmart or a medical supply that would work too. Something like an inflatable cushion would be good for inside the tub.
For the shower closing thing, you can go to a place like Lowe's, Menards, or Home Depot and tell them what the problem is and they should be able to point you to a fix, like a new piece to simply screw on or a new handle maybe.
Asking local charities/churches if there's someone who can shop for you could be a possibility. Or you could look into services online that deliver groceries. Just search 'grocery delivery' on Google to find a place in your area.
Hey there, that sounds really rough. I was thinking of what kind of things could be helpful. I would suggest seeing what you can move that you use regularly to a better height, especially if you'll have a wheelchair.
Consider investing in a crockpot. You can throw most ingredients in there with little prep and let it simmer all day to make large portions of food, like pot roast, meatballs to put over rice, etc. Same for bringing out the good ol' rice cooker. You may also look into meal prepping if you have the freezer space, especially right before your surgery. You would just make up a couple different meals and separate them into individual portions to reheat from the freezer. (Reddit offers a lot of ideas on Meal Prepping too!) Now would be a good time to stock up on non-perishable food too, like canned goods, pastas, sauces, etc for easier meals and less trips to the grocery store. Rice and Beans go a long way and are super filling!
In terms of getting to and from the grocery store, if you can't drive, and the grocery is near by you could uber/taxi to it, and then when in store either use one of the go carts or ask for assistance from the store staff. When I worked Safeway, we would stay with a shopper as long as needed to help them out.
I highly recommend putting out there to have someone build you a little ramp for your front door because there really is no easy way around those stairs. Churches are fantastic and performing charity acts like these and often very quick about it but start calling around now.
Does your tub/shower combo have sliding doors or just the old school shower curtain? This site has a list of wonderful ideas for post surgery aids. I also recommend googling post surgery aids and tips for post surgery. There's specifically a bath transfer chair in there that may be just what you need! Sometimes there are stores specifically selling these kinds of items in your town, but I bet amazon would be a great resource too!
Last but not least, have you considered putting out an ad for someone to come over once in a while to help you get things done. Like perhaps pay someone 20$ to come by on Fridays and help you get to and from the store and perhaps help you around the house? Sometimes another human's help is unbeatable but if you want to keep the costs low of hiring someone for that, just be sure to have a really good plan for the week and how its run, and choose 1 day a week to have them come by!
I hope some of my ideas helped! :) And I hope surgery goes well for you!
There are grocery delivery services in many places- like shipt, amazon now, etc. You may be able to use ubereats or your local grocery might have a delivery service. For basic pantry items you can use amazon pantry. It may be easier to get some healthy prepared meals as well if you're not able to cook easily.
The tub can be a very dangerous situation if you were to slip! Get a tension-mounted shower rod and curtain for now so you don't have to struggle with the door for the walk in shower. There are also supports you can get for the shower (like a stool you can sit on/a walker that are waterproof).
Surgeon is saying crutches but my balance on my other leg is not very good and my upper body strength is not good.
Yes I have a croockpot. No there is no taxi service in my town plus I can't afford one.My tub shower just has a curtain thing no doors.Been trying to find cheap easy freeze friendly recipes.
Most of the stuff on Amazon is prime.Prime I can't afford.
I will check and see how if my insurance covers a shower chair if not I will see how much one would cost.Updated my 1st post with some info.

You can cook up big batches of beans- you can flavor them differently and use them with (instant?) rice, in burritos/bowls, soups, chilis, etc. Similarly you can cook up and shred chicken or brown ground meat and freeze in smaller portions to add to meals. You can make egg muffin 'quiches' with different veg/cheese/protein and freeze them. They heat up really well. If I can think of other good freezer ideas I'll try to post more!
I got 2 bags of dried pinto beans gave to me..1 huge bag of frozen blueberries.1 whole small frozen chicken.
Im using electric skillet and a crockpot to cook in. So far ive rinsed 1 cup of pinto beans and going to cook and freeze them for adding to whatever else I fix up.

I used crutches before. Getting on and off a school bus was fun (not). You'll get use to crutches. As for showering/bathing, I would suggest sponge bathing. I've sponged bathed on many occasions. You just wash your hair in the sink and wet a cloth and put body wash it and there you go!
im not even allowed to put a shoe on by myself.so no bending down.im going to look for a loofah thing on a stick.shaving is a big NO!so don't got to figure that out at least.updating my 1st post.
Just found out my insurance will not cover anything but crutches..So a shower chair, commode thing and the other stuff are not covered.SO that's over one hundred dollars worth of stuff my insurance will not cover.
