Backstory of the FEVR System
As the world's technology progressed, it was inevitable that once they were efficient enough, they would take jobs. Management of said machines, and even androids now, became those workers' new jobs. It wasn't the worst thing, there were still plenty of jobs outside of the factory and some retail. There's still a need for culture, childcare, construction, and people to tend to what forests there are. These advancements even opened jobs for some, especially to those who apply it to the world of entertainment. Specifically, the world of video games. You've got to keep teens and young adults occupied in their free time, right?
Enter the Full-Experience Virtual Reality, or FEVR, system. Normally said as "fever," the FEVR system is as its name suggests. It's a virtual reality system which allows a complete sensory experience. Turning on a game while hooked up with one of these headsets on your head is the equivalent of transporting your whole self into a whole new world. The only thing you can't feel is virtual food filling your stomach. You can definitely taste it though! Of course, you also can't feel death, that would just be bad for business!
It's been a couple years, and now it seems everyone has their own system and loves it. The system's developer, after seeing this, began selling development kits for the surprisingly easy-to-develop-for system. Turns out the way they designed the system was to make it easy for those who make games, no matter how simple, to add to those available to the system. One can make anything from a single-player pet-owning simulation game to a fully fleshed out MMORPG complete with full customization for both weapons and characters so not a single person will ever look close to another unless it's on purpose!
Introduction
Whether it be out of excitement, curiosity, or whatever reason, you accept. A few minutes pass before the developer is able to contacts you again, but by the signature at the bottom, it seems that there are two developers. This developer gives you the game to download, when to expect further briefing before logging in, and a chatroom to join and meet your group mates while you wait, should you choose to.
Rules/Guidelines
Upon further reading of the message, there appear to be some rules set up:
1) All forum and general site rules apply
2) No Godmodding or Mary-Sues/Gary-Stus As many may know, this can take the fun out of things. If the game gives you power, it's over enemies and NPCs, not eachother. Even if you're a higher level or have higher stats or bigger buffs, there should still be at least one weakness a lower level character may use and one shouldn't have a way to one-hit just about everyone in your path.
3) There can be players with development kits or other, smaller games to mess with during downtime from this main one Please refrain from causing confusion amongst others and make sure others know you are in these games though, and do try to be in the next session for the sake of continuing things!
4) You may have multiple characters if you believe you can handle them
5) Small paragraph per post minimum and semi-literacy preferred Which is to say a few sentences minimum and no chatspeak outside of chatroom talking. A few misspellings and small grammar mistakes are fine, I've probably made a few throughout this, but please try to stay understandable.
6) If you have to be inactive for a while or want to drop out, please make a post saying how your character left the group This is in case someone might scroll past a simple "I'm going for a while/I'm leaving, it was a nice run, bye" and get confused as to why someone hasn't posted in a while.
7) Keep things PG-13 Violence is inevitable in some games, whether blood is involved or not, but don't overdo the description of it. Romance of any pairing is allowed, just keep it clean.
The roleplay will last as long as the game described below isn't complete or until the RP is long enough and people want some change. If this gets popular enough, I may do another with a different game and introduction!
Game Specs
The message also gives some information on the game:
Name: Shadow's Symphony
Genre: MMORPG with fantasy elements
Description: In the land of Teretel, all was once peaceful. Children would play, people would celebrate and sing, all was harmonious, it didn't matter where you lived. You could be in a small forest tribe making instruments of wood and leaf to play or a grand city watching people race on the back of beasts. It was great. Something, however, shook the land and turned everyone's lives upside down. It was time for a new ruler to take the capital. At first, this new ruler seemed kind, charming, and caring. Some believed a spirit corrupted him, as he began to become tyrannical. The people chose to revolt, and it was revealed the man was, in truth, an evil long thought to be destroyed.
Years have passed, and ever since the events of that year darkness has begun to spread. Creatures once friendly have become aggressive. A lot of people, even those once believed quite powerful, have hidden themselves away in caves and underground believing it would be safer, that they could prosper there. Now, however, there are people under and aboveground who don't want to hide anymore. They're fed up at fearing everything, fed up with constantly having to dig further away as the influence of evil spreads. They want to fight.
Object of game: Make your way across the land, doing quests for others and exploring along the way, finding the many bosses and enemies to defeat and progress the story
Features: Real-time battle system (no time freeze around battle area), complete customization of character and weapons, class system, skill upgrading system, others are to be revealed through playing
Now that you've read all of the info you need, time to think about how you might make yourself look in the game. It said there was complete character customization after all!

Gender:

Other?:
In-game Character
Nickname:
Gender: (Include if changed)
Appearance: (Image optional)
Class: (Choose for specialization: Mage, Berserker, Cleric, Knight, Assassin)
Starting Weapon: (You're just starting and at level one, you won't have anything amazing quite yet. An example: Scythe with a black handle and pale blue moon pommel.)
Most-Likely-to-Use Element:
Other?:
Each class has specializations, and the classes will affect the strength/effectiveness of certain actions. As one can guess, the element you use most will be your strongest. So for each, choose wisely based on how you plan to play!
Mage: Best at attacking magics and long range, however if made to attack close range it would be best to combine attacks or enchant their weapon rather than rely on one good attack to take out an enemy. Learns spells and skills which affect their magic ability or offer some utility such as distraction, begins with a couple weak spells of their preferred element.
Berserker: Excels in close to mid-range quarters where they can use their physical strength best. Skills are built around this, with some meant to increase longevity in battle and some giving an actual "berserk mode." Starts with two minor health potions and a temporary strength buff item.
Cleric: Does well with healing and enhancing magics such as strength and defense buffers. Isn't as good at actual fighting, but can defend one's self for a while using buffers and healing until a teammate can take care of the problem. Like the mage, they learn utility spells, however most of their skill set revolves around support and healing. Starts with a couple minor health and mana spells and minor buffing spells.
Knight: Built for defense, can take hits and guard others while still being able to fend off attackers with decent effect. Skills include putting up guards against certain elemental attacks and enemy attack absorption and countering at higher levels. Starts with ability to guard an ally for half damage and two health potions.
Assassin: Specializes in debilitating enemies with poisons, trickery, and statuses like sleep and stunning then going in for a quick kill, however what they have in speed they lack in defenses. Skills are made with this in mind, as they allow one to craft better poisons and make it easier to evade blows. Starts with a few vials of weak poisons and the ability to sidestep one attack per encounter.
Elements
There are 8 elements to choose, each one with a strength and a weakness: Water, Fire, Ice, Air, Earth, Lightning, Light, and Shadow. As one can guess, the element you use most will be your strongest. So, choose wisely based on how you plan to play! (Note: the Shadow element is not an element of evil, it can be used for good, so it is still included. Any element can be used for evil. The darkness which is spreading is a separate, more malicious entity altogether.)
Races
In order to allow for more creative freedom and unique characters, the developers have added all the fantasy races they could (Elf, anthropomorphic animals, fawns/satyrs, dryads, nymphs), while still allowing for hybrids between animals and humans separate from anthros for people who don't want to be half animal, just part, or to create their own unique set of skills.
These start with one of many animal features that can help in exploring and/or battle (ears, horns, wings, tails, claws, gills, fins, and fur only) Later on you can get another feature once access to certain shops is made (aka once you're higher leveled)
Anthros also get help from their own features, but one at a time like hybrids and you have no choice what you get. In return for this lack of freedom you do get a species bonus.
About Each Race
Human is an option, however they come with no perks. Race perks come at the start and there are no additional ones
Elf: A proud race that is used to living mostly in forests. It wasn't too much of a stretch to see a few in a city to trade before civilization went to near ruins. An elf, quick and nimble, is better at sensing others due to keen senses picked up from a life living in the beautiful yet dangerous wilds. This life also gives them some survival skills most others wouldn't. (Gives knowledge of safe foods and medicinal herbs in the wild)
Anthro: No one is quite sure how so many variants exist, but one thing is known for sure: anthros can be versatile and no "species" is the exact same as another. To list what each can do could take far too long, but it seems certain shared features all have similar effects which can be listed (look in hybrid features).
Fawn/Satyr: Known for their skill with a panflute, these people are fun-loving entertainers. When push comes to shove, however, they can be quite dangerous. One powerful kick is usually all they need. (Gives skill to lull enemies to sleep with song)
Dryads/Druids: These elusive forest spirits have been revered by those who heard legends of the beauty they can bring and the power they can use. Of course, these were of elders past, but even today's generations are nothing to laugh at. Even those that choose not to practice magic have a little in their veins, so to speak, as they are naturally a magical creature. (Gives one small spell of preferred element each battle)
Nymphs: Most others often consider Nymphs to be an aquatic version of the Dryad or Druid. This doesn't make them any less admired, and some even prefer the company of Nymphs over Dryads and Druids. (Gives some fire resistance)
Hybrids: Caused by trying to artificially make anthros and partially failing, the mutations passed to offspring and have since created a whole new race. This race is the Hybrid. Each Hybrid has one of a certain list of observed features, with another usually lying dormant that can be "activated" later in life when certain conditions are met.
Ears: The ears of many animals can offer enhanced hearing to those who have them. This means they can detect anything within 10 feet no matter how small, how sneaky, or how hidden it is. Later on, with mastering the use of the ears, one can even echolocate through pitch dark places!
Horns: Animal horns and antlers can make good weapons if used right. People with a set of them, or even one good horn, can use a nice charge attack in battle. Pretty sure that after a while all that ramming can lead to better charges, after getting used to it of course.
Wings: Almost anything with wings flies. That's the use of wings. Flight. From the start though, they aren't strong enough, so instead they give the starting ability to glide and shortly hover, much like a certain purple dragon...
Tails: Tails are great for helping your balance. They allow you to climb much easier, and once you get the hang of using it, it could make a good whip against enemies!
Claws: These sharp things are amazing alternatives to daggers. They make good close range weapons, can work up to 3 strikes in a row during battle, and in the future you can power them up with your element!
Gills: With these, you can breathe underwater for quite some time. With some training, you could find a way to give others this ability temporarily.
Fins: Fins can make you swim like a bullet through the water, fast and smooth. Eventually, you could use this speed for an underwater charge attack that can go fast enough to let you speed out the water to hit a surfaced enemy.
Fur: It gets cold in quite a few areas, there's even a region known for the cold. Fur is great for insulation from these icy conditions. Not only that but later you can find it makes good camouflage from monsters, looking like an animal.

Now to just wait for the next message...
(Of course, I have my own characters. The two developers!

Real Life
Name: Serenity Dawn Age: 18 Gender: Female Appearance: Serenity is of about average height at 5'5", medium frame, and peach skin with a small bit of muscle due to exercising 30 minutes three days a week. A thick, messy cascade of copper-colored hair flows straight down to her shoulders, parted to her left and often kept behind her pierced ears. Her eyes are a pale blue color and always seem to either give a look of confidence or relaxation. The only pieces of jewelry she often wears are a pair of diamond studs in her ears, the yin half of a yin-yang couple's necklace, and a real gold but faux diamond ring on her left pinky. Covering a blue-green and black plaid T-shirt, she keeps on a long black jacket when going out that ends about halfway down light colored skinny jeans. Finishing off her look, she wears black, white flower-print converses. Personality: She's often either quite laid-back or a bundle of energy, there's no in-between. In either case, she's usually direct, not one to dance around something, and judges others based on who they are, not what they appear to be at a glanc
Avid gamer, this is my kind of rp and may I add, I love your idea and story. You are an artist with words :3

may i join in? and i haven't made my character yet.
proud hufflepuff in wizarding
OOC: Hi! I'm really interested in this thread. It's the first one in a while that truly caught my attention!! I'll make a character skelly and try to tag it onto this post tonight, under a spoiler so it'll take up less room. I'm super excited and I hope that you will accept my character! :)
(( Sure you can join! Just have your character done as soon as you can, no rush though!
-viola I'll be looking forward to it!
Also, I apologize for being a bit late to respond. I was pretty busy yesterday ^-^"))
Jeremiah Starsky
Name: Jeremiah Starsky
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Appearance: He's got a rough, scruffy outer appearance. Due to weight fluctuations, many of his clothes hang off him like bedsheets while others hug him tightly. This isn't much of a problem, because he wears his shirts as infrequently as possible anyway.
Personality: Affectionately referred to as "Jerr," Jeremiah is a nice guy, though rarely seen in good company. He spends most of his time indoors. When he has friends over, they spend their time drinking and using other... recreational substances.
Jerry has a good wit and is always ready with a joke. While he doesn't have the most genial history, he's a friendly guy. He's nice to servers, respectful in public. He prefers to amuse people with his antics rather than upset them. With passion and pride set on a low boil, it's entirely possible he would have "made it" in more polite company, but he doesn't see the point. The societal majority is so uptight; his delinquent friends and online worlds seem more "real" to Jerr.
Background: While not outright rude, Jeremiah has spent most of his life getting up to some kind of antics. He has always had a close group of delinquent friends, who crack offensive jokes and do delinquent things. He spent most of his life playing video games, and has always loved fantasy worlds and narratives. Though he grew up in the last few years where youth were still preparing for working classic "jobs," Jeremiah was relieved by the plummet of availability and necessity of standard work. The rat race was less than appealing.
When he was in school, Jerry liked to write. He always fancied crafting elaborate stories and exercising his wit. While he hated standard jobs, he thought of being a comedian many years ago and has since forgotten that dream.
Now that Jerry's getting a little older, he has the same friends, but most of them have kids now. His liver has some miles on it. But there's always video games.
Other?: N/A
Snickster the Assassin
Nickname: Snickster
Gender: Male
Appearance: Long, gorgeous man hair that's blue in color. He's got the starter dregs on, but will certainly wear the gaudiest outfit he can find at a later time.
Class: Assassin
Starting Weapon: One nice, single-handed katana.
Most-Likely-to-Use Element: Lightning
Other?: Jeremiah likes assasins for their speed and hard-hitting blows, however he prefers the gaudy appearance of 1980's supervillains. He's liable to ditch appropriate equipment for the coolest, gaudiest stuff he can find and focus on a more offensive style of attack rather than being sneaky.
((
Accepted! Once a couple more people join and/or finish up characters, I'll let you know when we'll officially start!))
OOC: Sorry this took so long for me to make up!! D: I had a mental block that gave me the hardest time coming up with this character as well as balancing school and work. I'm on break so I was able to take the time out of the day to make this! When this RP finally kicks off, I will make sure I reply as soon as I possibly can after school and work! Thank you for being patient! <3
Melody Lukasiewicz
Name: Melody Lukasiewicz
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Appearance: Melody is 5’3 with a plump body and pale skin. She has long blonde hair that falls to her waist that makes her jade green eyes pop. She usually wears a turtle neck of some color and either blue or tan skinny jeans. If not that, then clothes appropriate for the season they’re currently in. She loves keeping a necklace on that has a treble clef pendant for luck.
Personality: Melody is very optimistic and always super cheery. She has a ton of positive energy and always gives positive reinforcement. She is very empathetic and it doesn’t take much for her to break down in tears, even though she tries to hold them off.
Background: When she was in the fourth grade, her parents went through a divorce that turned her world upside down. She made herself look happy around her friends and classmates because she didn’t want them to worry about her. Because of that, she developed that mentality and applied it to her everyday life from then onward. She picked up instruments as an outlet of the negative emotions she felt at this time, and even today. About the time she was 15, she started playing video games with her friends since they wanted her to join. After that, MMORPG really caught her attention and she can play for hours, not knowing how much time as actually passed.
Other?: She is in her second year of college studying a degree in music.
Willow
Nickname: Willow
Appearance: Willow is an elf (I hope this is okay) with long silver hair and icy blue eyes. She is about 5’8 and very thin. She wears robes similar to this as well as a cloak much like this one. Even with higher levels, she tries to pick outfits that looks like traditional elven clothes.
Class: Cleric
Starting Weapon: A couple of standard daggers for close range combat.
Most-Likely-to-Use Element: Water
Other?: N/A at the moment
((-viola
Accepted! Elves are fine, there are a race of them in the world that may be seen more as progress is made. Also, I recommend joining the ping group if you haven't already, I plan on using it every now and then for any possible updates, letting everyone know when things start, and possibly other things. The link to it is at the bottom of the first post.))
I'd like to join. What are the playable races?

They can be the insert feature of any animal with that feature, and later on you can get another feature once access to certain shops is made (which really means once you're higher leveled) Pretty much almost anything is fair game so long as you don't make them overpowered, I've predetermined what each feature does so that isn't an issue with hybrids. Anthros also get help from their own features, but one at a time like hybrids and you have no choice what you get. In return for this lack of freedom you do get a species bonus.
I plan on updating the first post with some info I've realized that I missed in hopes to answer some questions such as this. I will do this as soon as I can and let everyone know when it's finished, and I'll probably make an OOC thread so long stuff like this doesn't have to clog the RP once it starts real soon.))
OOC: I tried signing up for the tag but when I clicked on it, I wasn't able to find it!
EDIT: Never mind! I found it when I got on my laptop! I'm looking forward to this kicking off! I think it'll be a lot of fun!! :D
(( -viola
That's weird, it worked correctly when I tried... How about this link instead?
OOC: I figured it out once I got on my laptop! For some reason, it wasn't working on mobile when I tapped the link! Thanks for the second link though!!
Arlene Massey
Name: Arlene Massey
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Appearance: Slightly less than average height. Pale skin, chest-length auburn hair, freckles on her cheeks, and hazel eyes.
Personality: Arlene is quiet and reserved. She stays away from people and prefers animal companionship. Arlene can come off as cold and rude because she doesn't trust people. She has a very hard time believing that anyone, except her mother, could care about her.
Background: Arlene had trouble keeping friends while growing up. Everyone betrayed her at some point. So she became accustomed to being by herself. Arlene doesn't remember her father because he left her and her mother when she was five. Her mother had to work two jobs and tried her hardest to provide the best she could for her daughter. Arlene and her mother have a very good relationship because even though Arlene's mother was tired from working, she still made time for her daughter. Arlene spent a lot of time at the local library and the local pet shop, because her mother was usually working.
Other?: Arlene is currently in her third year of college, working towards a degree in animal science.
Glacia

The hood comes down a bit lower on her face and it has holes for her ears.
Class: Mage
Starting Weapon: The one shown in the outfit image.
Most-Likely-to-Use Element: Ice
Other?: Will get a white tail with a blue tip once leveled up enough.
