I couldn't find my lovebird, Buddy. I could hear him, but had no idea where he was. I decided to whistle and he answered. I was looking around for him, but still no luck. I whistled again and I looked down and I caught him chewing my dieffenbachia. That plant was a house gift, but thing is, I never wanted poisonous plants to begin with. It's going to be cut up and placed in a garbage bag.
I'll call the emergency vet to get some advice. I'm way too broke right now to take him in. I had to cancel Buddy's appointment (twice) to get his nails trimmed, plus, I just had $750 worth of dental surgery and I still have no idea on how to pay my dad back.
Edit: Called the emergency vet. This animal hospital doesn't do exotics. There's only one clinic that deals with dogs, cats. exotics and they're closed and not on call. The vet said "You'll have to call during their business hours during the day".
EDIT: Buddy is fine! 8D
Yes he is! <3 I meant to update this topic and I forgot. I hacked up my plant and put it out on the curb side on garbage day.
I'm glad to hear your birdie is okay~ It's always stressful when our pet babies are hurting. Or at least if they could be in trouble. A month ago I ran into a situation with my shih-tzu, turns out nothing was seriously wrong. :)
I caught Buddy eating plant soil today. It's possible that's what he was doing, but I got rid of the plant anyway.
Hopefully. Is soil bad for him as well? That doesn't seem like it would be very good either.
That plant you have "dieffenbachia" is also known commonly as the Dumb Cane. It gets that name from the effects of the "poison" in the plant's flesh. If you eat it, the poison can prevent you from speaking hence the word "Dumb" in the name, it's also called Mother-In-Law's Tongue, but that name is given to many varieties of plants. As long as the bird didn't ingest too much of the plant, I think he'll be ok. Maybe try to check his mouth and make sure he can eat/drink normally.
Here for future reference - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieffenbachia I studied Horticulture and this plant is quite common.
Well, the plant is at the landfill site now. I think he was only eating the soil.
I don't know. I'll have to look it up
Aw that's a shame, they're beautiful plants, but I understand why. Glad he's doing ok!
I never wanted a poisonous plant to being with. I looked on Google and this was my plant. I don't know what this type is called
