This seems like great news! Hopefully it will be re-routed, the article makes it seem that they are in talks currently but I hope they take the views of those who have been protesting into consideration.

Gosh I hope this actually happens!! Now because of the protesting, and i am sure Laurie's tribe will watch them close, that it is done with the environment into consideration.

Let us pray that this is true and that this isn't just another lie from our government to appease the people,. I am sorry, but I don't believe anything that the government says. And I know they have been doing many things in secret and behind our backs, especially in the last few years. All I can say is God be with us.

Well they have a little over a month reprieve...but come Jan 20 the project will get final approval to go through. The incoming president has 2 separate financial ties to the company building the pipeline. I have no doubt that he will order the Army corp of engineers to approve the easement.

He directly owns stock in Energy Transfer Partners, as well as owning stock in Phillips 66, which has a one-quarter share of Dakota Access.

Would love to see them make this change but I'm still saying prayers just in case it doesn't work out the way it should. Not enough supporters might stay until the final ink is dry. God watch over Standing Rock, a great Nation, and those that could travel to show their support.

I did never understand y they were wanting to run a pipeline through there anyways I thought we were supposed to go away from using fossil fuels like oil and go with a better energy such as solar power and using ocean currents for power I mean it would be very easy to finish what obama started with the wind power I mean how many people live in the deserts of the US we could put some solar panels out there that follow the sun all day with enough of those solar panels they could power the united states all day long now add in the ocean currents on both coast as the water rushes in and out of watered powered turbines that create electricity that would power the US for 10 days just for one day of the oceans currents passing through them and then lets not forget about the wind mills that create even more electricity so I can't see any reason at all y they need to move oil through a pipeline through four states... I can't believe that more people weren't protesting this insane idea of moving oil through what they called a safe way to move oil lol at that there is no safe way to move oil if something happens in the line or it breaks everything around will be fucked water moves north to south not the other way around so if a oil pipeline breaks up there and goes into the water supply it will not only make an impact where it is leaking but everywhere that water will flow into and if I am not mistaken doesn't the Missouri River run into the Mississippi River which pretty much is in the center of America so all the water down would be full oil and kill off everything in it is path...

It does sound hopeful. But as i shared the update with my roommate, she planted the seed of doubt that once the protesters leave the land the corporation will go ahead with the pipeline. So keep vigilant jic.

hopes and prays <3 I echo others in here, I don't trust the mysterious they. Greed rules all and it seems winning the small victories is as far as we ever get. If we could actually win something as big as this for the greater good over the mighty dollar, that would be a huge sign of hope.

There isn't enough money in renewable energy, too many politicians have their fingers in fossil fuel stocks. Imagine all the money lost if even a quarter of the houses in the US installed a single solar panel on their roof.

while I agree in principle with you, its not quite that simple.

We are currently lagging in battery technology - which is needed to make solar power collection really efficient.

Tide energy has the same problems that other types of hydro-electric power have, which is the loss of energy in transporting it and the fact that energy is produced when the earth produces it, not when we need to use it. Where I live most of our power needs are fed by hydro-electric - 98% of it - and we also export a lot. But we also end up importing energy, which sounds contradictory if we have enough to export, why the hell do we import? Because we need to balance energy collection with energy use and that, unfortunately never quite works out.

All forms of energy collection have both monetary and environmental costs. Everything except the old, high pollution standards are at a point where they require a lot of 'R' & D funding, high infra-structure costs and little short term return on investment. Both corporations and governments, given the choice, simply see no financial incentive to work out the problems. And high financial incentives to keep the status quo.

So we need to up the social incentives to "waste" money to get the job done. We need to use our money to reward green companies working on actual solutions, and refuse to pay companies stuck in the old ways. We need to protest pipelines and any other new infrastructure created to facilitate the use of fossil fuels. We need to fight fracking tooth and nail.

It's much bigger than a well... they're fighting for the aquifer, their land, and their rights. I find it oddly coincidental that this reroute happens right before the vets show up...

There's a new water facility just a few miles south that's been in construction for the last three years in preparation of the well being decommissioned. There's two pipelines in the area already. The land is private not tribal. And the tribe leaders sorta signed off on this deal like ten years ago.
