i keep abandoning my pets because i get one second thought about their name. THEY ALL MUST BE PERFECT etc. i dont even adopt to people i'd want to have them :( just pop right in the shelter help me
I do that sometimes. My thinking is... I don't want to disappoint people in case more than one person wants the pet... SO into the Pound you go... and all for the best. Less headache that way.
very true. also when i decide i want something to happen, it has to happen that second.
You are not alone! My pet names have to be "perfect" in my own little strange ways, otherwise I won't be able to keep them for long. I used to make adoption boards, but stopped making them at some point many years ago (for reasons!). Now I either give pets to friends who showed interests before, or just put them straight into the pound (though I'm more responsible for adopted pets and will always check with the previous owners to see if they want the pet back).

lol i do this too ;w; i created the pet "girls" a few days ago and now i am suuuper tempted to drop her in the pound. i'm trying to wait it out a little bit and see if i'll warm back up to her but idk. augh. sometimes i try adopting out pets i don't want anymore through the forums but people usually don't seem interested :S
omg i'm so glad im not alone. they have to be perfect. if i get a feeling they're not perfect i'm very quick to kick em to the curb lmao
I'm so guilty of this XD I think I'm in love with a name, and I get all excited when it's free or when there's a clearing, but then when it's time to think of a character it's just one big "duuuuuuurrrrp". Plus, I have these weird things where if one name sounds too similar to another, or if I feel like I have too many "C" names for example, then I kick some to the curb. And honestly, the pound is just so much easier than making a board. I hate "picking" people too, and I hate waiting on people to get their shit together to apply. That's why I encourage people to mail me about names they like - I keep a little list, and if I ever lose interest in one, I just message one of those people and ask if they're still interested. But yea, the pound is waaaaay more convenient.
omg, can i mail you names i like? :0 lmaoo. but yes the pound is much easier and i definitely can't have too many similar names! right now i'm freaking out because i have too many ending with an "a"
You totally can. Some I'll never part with, but others I'm not as passionate about, so who knows? :P
ANd yes, I feel you. I did an audit and was like, nope, too many names ending in "a", so I got rid of 2, even though I really liked the names themselves XD It's really tragic being so picky.
it's really a shame D: i wish i could learn how to stop auditing my pets but i think it will be a forever thing. oh well :/ i know if i somehow got a goldmine of names there are a few of mine i'd just dump right off the bat to clear space if it came down to it
Honestly, same. I just have so much anxiety about the idea of filling up my slots lmao.
I like pound browsing and wind up abandoning pets in order to adopt new ones. Doesn't happen too often though

I find for me pets either just... lose steam for what I can do with them. I had a pet I think I even gave him a name change to try and generate new excitement, I ended up just putting him in the pound I think. And then I believe I went on hiatus so... when I came back I forgot he was gone but it was okay. And I have enough pets now that every time I go on hiatus and come back it's almost new excitement since I'll be like 'when did I get them?!' Because of it though and my propensity to name art files as assorted keyboard smashes I'll have several different visual ideas for different characters. Which is now both interesting and problematic as I try to do busts of everyone.
And I won't adopt or make a pet unless I'm super happy with the name. I'm pretty happy name wise with all my babies. Violet is prolly my best AC find.
Ugh, I know how you feel about names having to be perfect. Theres a few names Ive been stalking for a bit, with some cleared. I recently found a pet in the pound with a free name change, and guess what? Now I cant decide what to name her :(
I have the same thing. I always end up with two pets which are Clint and Bucky (I can't let go off both of those and never will). However I recently I regret one so I'm hoping that one will clear because the user who has him now looks inactive.
I also abandon pets I adopted from the pound. I have to create them myself/or change their name towards a new pet I create.
I totally understand the feeling, and glad to see I'm not alone!
I like having names that are perfect (i.e. no spaces, symbols, numbers, unless it was meant to be part of their name if it's a fanpet), and I get quite picky about how names look, sound or what their meaning is. There's been times when I've seen a name or two that became available but I decided to pass because I can't drum up enough inspiration for characters.
I also go by intuition - sometimes I find great names available, but if I don't feel any inspiration I'm not likely to grab them even if they are highly coveted by others. I'm not a fan of hogging a name simply for the sake that it's available - I need to feel strongly enough about the character to open a pet slot, and I've got to the stage right now where I'm fond of most of my pets and pet slots are becoming expensive for me and it's really hard to let go of anyone unless I feel really strong about a name.
I'm not too picky about names starting with the same letters (as such, I have a lot of pets starting with A- (5 pets) and O- (4 pets) and V- (3 pets) :P I'm also a fan of Italian/Latin names (evidenced by 9 of my pets)...
There's been a few times that I adopted pets from the pound but decided to put them back due to names not being perfect. I've also seen pets in the pound that I really wanted but the name wasn't the best which I've passed up. I'd rather leave those pets to people who can really appreciate and make use of them. The only exception to my name pickiness is low ID pets - I don't really mind if the name is not the best in this case as I feel it's a worthy investment changing names for a low ID pet.
I generally won't adopt a pet unless I feel super strong about their name - and when I do I'm serious about doing my best to take care of them.
At the moment, I'm trying to figure out a name for one of my newer pets that has a low ID. Kind of itching to change her name as she has a dash - in her name, but haven't found the right name yet... :P

I'm the same, Some names I love but then one small thing about it bugs me and I get rid of them. Like I can't have any names that end with "s" because when I go to put things in their treasure its like (using a name I used to own) "Put in Boness Treasure" and the double S then bugs me so much!
Then I get a name just because I like it but have no idea what I'd do with it. I'm like that with a lot of my pets at the moment, no idea what I'm doing with them. Like I don't mind if people ask me to let them know if I'll ever part with a certain pet because sometimes I have :o And I just don't want to drop them in the pound or make a thread.
