So, I got this little cutie today from work.
He/she is an Albino Tiger Oscar. My boss said she was having a hard time selling it and she wanted it gone. I told her I only have a 25G fish tank and she said it was fine for him, since he was only living in a 15G tank at the store (the only one we had available since our larger tanks are full). So, Oscar (yes, that's his name lol) got upgraded! He's a little stressed out right now and hasn't left that corner. I know that he'll up root my decorations and for this very reason, I'm glad I have fake plants. I'll probably get him a real one down the road.
I also need some tank supplies, like a sponge and charcoal. I threw mine out since Norman the lobster died. My boss said he's fine without that for now. I'll also be getting him some frozen treats next week too (on pay day).
Does anyone have any advice about Oscars? I know they're very hardy, which is great for me.
P.S. Oscar is the only fish I'll have in my tank.
Blub, blub
So beautiful! I loved the little baby Oscars at my old work. My advice would be to keep him entertained, they are very intelligent and get bored easily. We taught ours to do spins for frozen/live food. Definitely will want to upgrade him to a massive tank eventually. Congrats on your new swim baby! :)

As mentioned, I love hardy fish. I would love to upgrade to a 50 at some point.
I remember I had tons of guppies when I had a 10G. Keeping guppies is a hard task and I managed to conquer it. Very fussy fish.
I grew up with fish tanks. When I moved in, I got a hamster as a house warming gift. He was a re-home, than I got some African Dwarf Frogs in a little (very small) eco-system container. I felt so bad for them, I bought them a tank. The tanks current was too strong (returned it) and ended up with a 5G. The frogs were very happy. The male loved playing in the bubbles the filter sent out. I was thinking about them an air stone, but they died. I was very unsuccessful with Frogs, so I got guppies.
Hell, I even got a red-clawed crab named Herman and put him with the guppies. He had a bad molt and died. I loved my little crab. So anyway, I ended up selling the 10G and scored the 25G for free (found it on the side of the road). I had a lobster named Norman in there for MONTHS. He died not too long ago. Everybody loved my Electric Blue Lobster. I was thinking of getting a Norman 2.0 (my boss also wanted the lobster gone), but shave gave the Oscar instead (he was cheaper than the lobster).
Sorry. This wasn't a short story.
How do you even train a fish to do tricks?
Guppies are a near impossible fish to keep in my experience. Especially with such poor stock that comes to commercial stores, that's for sure, hats off to you! Did your Africans get dropsy? That's the most common ailment I've seen and it makes me super paranoid about ever getting dwarf frogs. I'm sorry for your loss of them and Norman, I love crustaceans.
I love fish (and animals for that matter) I don't mind!
Pretty much just classical conditioning, traced our fingers above the water (WAY above the water if you know Oscars haha) and when he followed we gave him food. He really liked crickets, but blood worms worked as well.
I wish I could even have a 25 gallon! Currently living in a place that will not allow aquariums of any size ;.;

I love oscars! I don't know much about them, but I've always liked them at the stores. He does look a little freaked out right now. Imagine if some gigantic creature plucked you from your home and dropped you in a whole new world. You'd probably freak out a bit too, lol. I think he'll be fine though, with a good mama to take care of him.
He's still not eating, but he did eat ONE pellet 15min ago. Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow. I might just get him some dead goldfish from work. They net them in the morning and put them in trash.
He's eating now, which is great. Oscar eats well over 50 pellets a feeding x.x
