Hiya, I was wondering if anyone has heard of or had experience with maladaptive daydreaming? I'm interested in doing some research in this area, specifically among people who enjoy experiencing (or making their characters experience) negative emotions. Please ping me if this is something you'd be willing to talk about with me!

I do have MaD especially while listening to music or, shortly after being triggered (I have PTSD) and trying to cope with the episode. I'd say that my main trigger is music. It takes me to certain place (often good) but with certain music and event, I lapse into something that is more akin to negativity and even triggering my own PTSD.

As far as I've read, music is a very common trigger for a lot of people who identify with MD, certainly for myself I find listening to music a huge facilitator in my daydreams, as well as motion, like car and bus journeys?

I'm quite a few months off from beginning my actual research, but would you potentially be interested in being interviewed (informal voice chat on skype) about your experiences with MD, in relation to negative emotions and daydreams? I realize this is something that is tied into your PTSD, and especially being focused around negative issues, so I understand if this is something you're not comfortable with.

Bus journey definitely! I've missed a few stops because of that ha ha. It can be hard to keep a poker face when you're totally somewhere else in your head.

I cannot promise I would be able to participate since I'm attending school all the time and this summer too but let me know and I'll see if I can be free for the day you'll need.

Yesss, I feel that. I'm super worried I look odd sometimes, when I'm walking around listening to music and daydreaming, and then I start making facial expressions that relate to my characters conversations or something. >.<

Ah, thank you so much! I wouldn't need you for any specific day, so it'd be whenever you're available for a 30-60 minute chat. I need to have signed ethical clearance from the psychology board to begin taking any kind of data though. My goal however is conduct interviews between the end of November and February time. Is it okay if I make a quick note of your username and get back in touch with you during that time?

YES. I often get some really weird faces but I've learned to push them aside. It's hard to control your face anyway haha.

Of course! I hope I'll be able to provide any type of help :)

Hiya, can i just double check - the negative side of your MD - is that something you'd describe yourself as enjoying? ie: gaining pleasure from deliberately imagining negative situations/scenarios?

I rarely gain pleasure from them unless they are linked to certain people.
