despite having an account for some six years, i was always too wary of the hex threat to actually try out trick-or-treating much before. i've decided i'm gonna do it this year for sure, but i'm wondering how long this is going to last? sorry if there is already a thread for this, i looked and didn't find one.

Yeah it wears off on its own. I'm not sure how long they last, but I think it's something like 5-10 minutes or maybe a little longer. It's not permanent though.

They don't really do anything except make your avatar look silly for a bit. But nothing else happens.

Yep, you can wear them under your base/background too if you don't want them showing up. As long as they're attached to your HA they'll work.

In previous years where toting is once every half hour, not getting hexed is a big deal because treats opportunities are hard to come by. Every five minutes like if you do random toting this year, not such a big deal.

There is an item that removes hexes, the Hex Remover. In past years when hexes lasted hours and folks hardly ever got to show off their costumes, this was a bigger deal. This year with hexes not lasting too long, not so much.

I got hexed into a big blue balloon last night around 2:00 Subeta time. It's now about 10:30 and I'm still hexed! It seems I'm somehow stuck. How do I get rid of it? I've opened my wardrobe, no change.

it's 12:30 now. I see you in your Morostide costume and not hexed. If you still look hexed to yourself, it may be time to clear out cache and cookies.

Two and a half hours seems excessive.

It wasn't 2 and a half hours, it was almost NINE hours! I thought I was stuck as that balloon :( I got hexed last night on my last TOT for the day and when I came in this morning I was still hexed. It took about 15 minutes of doing quests for my HA to return to normal so I'm thinking the hexes last about a quarter hour of being active on the site...then again I could be wrong. I'm just delighted to be back to normal.
