Haven't seen this asked before and hope I did not just overlook it.
My gourmand pet's hunger was at 0/10 this morning, so I took out 10 items out my hoard to feed him. Wishful thinking - he was full after 6 food items. Usually I don't keep track too much, but with all the Alegarten archievements we got recently I hoped to get those done before Morostide.
However it does not seem to be 1 hunger per food or 2 since then I could only have fed him 5 items. However items do give no clue as to how much they would feed your pet, which is quite annoying. If you try for gourmand you can never plan when you'll be done with X food items that way. And for a battler who does not want their pets in the resort it might be nice to know how you can feed your pet with less items on the other hand. Or make it easy and just give everything the same value?
So is this just a bug or is this happening on purpose? In the latter case: Why? And is there a way how to find out the "values" of each food item?
nobody is tracking this that I know. Last time I checked it was random, but with small variation. However since I battle and my gourmand pet is not my battlepet, I have long since invested in the Infinity Berry.
This two-hours per item is new to me, or more accurately very old. Like six or seven years ago four plus or minus a bit items per day was all a pet would eat, and this got changed to what I thought was the current amount of ten items per day plus or minus a bit two years later. If this has been changed back or if items now have more variability in how filling they are, this is new to me.
I know there was a thread in Help & Questions not too long ago, maybe dig that one out and ask the posters then? They may still be feeding their pets.
Pet hunger has been glitchy on and off for a while. Especially with how it decreases too.
For example, I'm pretty sure staff have said that if your pet has eaten a lot of foods, it should register that's your gourmand pet and let them get hungrier faster. And yet my pet has eaten nearly 5,000 food items and will still sometimes go for a few hours without even dropping to 9/10.
The whole thing seems like it's a bit messed up, and it has been for months. They were adjusting it for a while, but I'm not sure if anything is still being done about it or not.
Thanks! I really was unaware of how the food system worked before, as I would just randomly feed stuff to my battle pet before they released the gourmand archievement. Also still I usually don't care too much. Recently I started to try and get some more archiements and only then realized how random pet hunger seemed. Good to know it's not just my imagination though. :P
Thread may be locked! My questions have been answered as far as possible. ^^
No problem! Although most of the time it does seem to be 1 point per food item, but sometimes it does weird things.
you are welcome, and good luck with your gourmet feeding achievements! I found it useful to use a gallery that had books or weapons in it to store the foods I was going to have my eaterpet consume if I had more than my ten locked in Inventory. All I had to do was sort for Food and out they came.
Some food items fill more than one point of hunger, I could have sworn there was a better source for that somewhere but I've been looking for ~20 minutes and I can't find the post I thought I saw about it. In any case, that part is intentional, but I don't think there's a list anywhere about which foods fill more hunger than others (and I'm glad I got the bulk of my gourmand achievements finished before this change was made).
Ah, thanks for having a source on that! I guess maybe that part is still true even though they've been adjusting the rates at which pets get hungry.
Nice to know it's likely intentional though, at least.
There was a thread recently that mentions that the fills 5 points of hunger also. But I definitely thought I saw a clearer word from staff somewhere in Help & Questions and I can't find it for the life of me.
But yeah, that's at least one thing that's not broken
