I'm Montreal born and raised but living on the west coast now. Throughout the years that city council has come out with utter garbage but this has to be the worst yet. My heart aches for all the responsible PB owners on that Island. It's not even certain yet if it was a PB who killed that woman, they're waiting for DNA testing to be complete. She was found in her backyard so how do they know which dog it was? Who was the witness? She was supposedly found by a couple of siblings...after the fact. This is just so heart wrenching.

My sister has owned pit bulls and chihuahuas. The pit bulls were super friendly and loved giving tackle hugs. The chihuahuas were the ones that could be considered vicious towards others... One in particular loved biting ankles.

I'm really tired of close minded people thinking that breed equals personality. Just like with humans, a dog's personality is personalized. There's also the whole how the dog is raised part that no one seems to consider.

I hope this ban is repealed.

It gives me hope that there's so much outrage over it (from the entire country -- and then some, minus Ontario because they've had a BSL for 10+ years now...), but it's especially irritating because the dog that started the entire incident wasn't even a pitbull!

It just makes me happy that so many organizations and rescues are stepping forward to get the dogs out of Montreal, and that the city's own SPCA is suing the city over the whole thing.

Dog breed discriminatory laws make me sad. :C Clearly someone did not watch The Champions. It should be mandatory viewing to all people who think pitbulls are evil.

If I remember right, golden retrievers, yellow and black labs are the lead dog attacks statistically speaking. Pitbulls aren't even in the top five.

This is such nonsense. It breaks my heart.

It's utter garbage to blame an entire breed for various attacks. As far as I know, a small dog bit me once when I was walking my pug at the time.

The rules are way too strict and now, all pitbulls are being sent away or killed. Wtf. As far as I know, all doges are bae and I will continue to volunteer to take care of them and to find them good families.

I was absolutely outraged and heartbroken when I heard about this! Judging a dog by breed or looks is disgusting and doesn't solve anything. But here's an update: The Montreal SPCA has been taking legal action against it and the ban has been put on temporary hold. Today is Wednesday. Let's hope they do the right thing this time. BSL is complete garbage.

UPDATE: Ban suspended indefinitely!! Ironically, the dog that attacked was not even a pit bull but a boxer. Apparently any "big headed, muscular dog" is a "pit bull". At least the dogs of Montreal are safe for the time being but the fight is NOT over.
