Hi, I made this account some time ago when I was looking for alternatives to another virtual pet site that had gotten kind of stale. Still, I never really got into Subeta until recently.

One thing I have noticed is that user/pet names open up after a period of inactivity. This is actually really cool, but I have some concerns. I have already "stolen" a name from an existing pet (Jejune) and honestly I feel kind of guilty about it, like what if the person decides to come back?

So, what I would like to know is, does the entire pet disappear or is it just replaced with a different name? Is there some kind of process or etiquette I should know about in regards to inactive names? For example, is it expected that you pm/chat the person (even though they probably won't see) before you attempt to take a name?

EDIT: Sorry about the double post. The site keeps crashing for me and I stupidly refreshed the page. Are 504/502 errors common?

the pet gets replaced with a different name. if they go inactive, feel free to take any name you want, there is no etiquette about it. a lot of people actually try to grab pet names from inactive accounts and it can be quite competitive.

I think the pet whose name you took will get a free name change if their owner ever returns to Subeta, so while they won't get the old name back if you're using it, they won't be stuck with the "stolen" name (original name plus underscore and some numbers, like Jejune_850). So it's perfectly fine to take names from inactive accounts ^^

I can confirm they do get a free name change. It's tied to the pet. So if they came back the person can rename it, or if they disown the pet the person who adopts it can use the name change.
