How do I increase my pets intelligence??

If I remember correctly does it have to do with reading books?? Books with a certain rarity?? If so, what is it??

All books work when read to your pet! They each give 1 intelligence point, though each book can only read to your pet once. There is a very, very small selection of books (like only 2-3 books) that will give more points, for example, the Book Package which will give you 6 points when read. And there are also quite a few boosters which will give you intelligence points, for example the Tomes which can give 1-3 intel, or Shinwa's Key which is also 1-3.
