I need help with a butterfly I decided to save. It has a problem with one of its wings, and I'm not sure if I can help it without hurting it further. Does anyone know if there is some kind of way to help it? I tried to look for a problem like this but I wasn't able to find anything myself. Any and all advice would be appreciated. http://sta.sh/21wo49cg12g4

Hi. I used to "repair" Monarch/butterfly wings when I worked at my local insects rescue. Here is an helpful video. It looks like this fella only lost a tiny bit?, which is good.

I watched the video. I didn't know you could repair the wings. This is really good information as I raise monarchs as a hobby. Thanks for sharing.

Good luck repairing the wing. I hope it works.

Thank you. I actually found that video yesterday when I was trying to find a solution... That helps with the tear in the butterfly's wing, but that doesn't solve the bigger problem of its wind being bent or twisted or whatever it is. If you take a closer look at this picture, all four of its wings are there, but the upper right wing is way off to the side when it should be closed: http://sta.sh/02b31ns6gtaa

Do you think it could be possible to have a better picture of the joint between its body and the wing itself? Are you able to take both wings and pull them together? I'm looking for little tearing at the bottom of the joint. A picture with more details and less grainy would be very helpful. @ Mayonaka [Edit] Edited for typos

I can try. Just to be absolutely clear before I try anything though, I assume you mean to hold the wings, including the seemingly twisted one, closed and get a shot of the outside view of the joint?

You don't need to hold them closed. Just take a picture of its body while the wings are open. Focus on the joint between the wing and the body (it can be tricky to shot).

If I can't see, do you have an entomologist in your area?

Will these be good enough? http://sta.sh/21syqgbp6opp Be sure to look at the full-sized versions of the images too, they're pretty large.

Poor dude, its also missing an antennae. I think the best would be to bring it to an entomologist. I'm afraid I can't do anything and can't see properly. :c

Ahhh, that's really unfortunate. D: I'm afraid I don't know of any entomologists and I don't really know how to find them, but I will look. In the meantime I can keep trying to get a better photo, as fruitless as that seems to have been so far. Just another reason to wish I had one of those super cameras hah, I've wanted one for a long time and now would have been a great time to have one.

Thank you so much for trying to help.

You could always try to see if you can close both wings together very carefully. It might go on the side because of the bad shape of the wing. If not, it might be a minor tear at the bottom of the wing but I have no idea what to do whatsoever. I'd just use a new wing to fill the blanks and see how it goes from there.
