Yeah. I asked them for Breadfruit the other day because I'd just found out about it and they didn't know what it was. So stupid proud of myself, lmao. So I filled out a comment card schooling them on it and I hope they get it in because I'd really like to try it. It's supposed to be really good for you and I'm curious about the supposed bread texture. I'm also thinking about ordering a seedling tree online because it supposedly grows anywhere.
Has anyone had breadfruit before? Do you eat it raw or cook it? Does it grow where you live?
i haven't eaten breadfruit, but it's pretty interesting to read about fruits i have yet to try on wikipedia! i'm personally interested in trying the cherimoya, or "custard apple" -- it's supposed to taste like "a blend of banana, pineapple, papaya, peach, and strawberry", which sounds totally delicious.
i doubt they have that at whole foods, either...

Nothing grows where I live. We import like, everything. Except apples and potatoes. And then you go on a trip to some sunny place and fruit tastes different because you've never eaten it ripe. Yeah. Mango? I spent years thinking I knew that taste, but no. Peach? Lemon? Totally different.
Breadfruit seems weird. Not sure I want to try that.
Can I ask what exactly breadfruit is? I've never even heard of it, haha!
well, you'll have to pick it up next time you're at your local whole foods! i will, as well!

Huh thats a fruit i've never heard of either. not sure if any of the stores around us carry it either, i'll have to look for it.
Breadfruit, huh. Well that's interesting! I'd never heard of it either, had to look it up. I'd like to try it sometime if I can find it. No Whole Foods in my area (not yet anyway) but maybe my local health food store would have it.
Do you have any Asian supermarkets in your area?
I've never had breadfruit before, but I do know that it's eaten in some Asian countries though. That said, I think it's mostly in SE Asia, because parents are Taiwanese and it's not common nor do I think my parents have ever heard of the fruit. I just know because it's eaten in Indonesia and I believe Vietnam has it as well.

I live in Ontario, so mostly everything is imported. Our grocery stores sometimes get dragon fruit, goji berries (which are disgusting), star fruit (which is also gross) and cactus pears. I made this mistake of handling cactus pears without gloves and I spent a long time picking out the fine prickly hairs on my hands and fingers.
i second looking into look asian markets, especially because it'll probably be cheaper than whole foods
ive seen way too many people overpay for import stuff, my boyfriend works at a place like whole foods and they sell coconut water for like $2 when you can find it for like 50 cents at almost every mercado or asian market - way better!!
I heard about breadfruit on NPR, I really want to try it!
