It was a new morning in the Shire. Frodo was preparing his & Bilbo's daily breakfast routine, making sandwiches & tea. Meanwhile, Bilbo was in his library, writing on his book.
"Bilbo, breakfast's ready!" A young man's voice sung from the kitchen. "Yes, yes." Bilbo barked. He always knew when Frodo was finished with preparing the breakfast, and he appreciated it every time. This was not very apparent due to Bilbo's very stout nature & his age. He always seemed grumpy & annoyed when it came to other Hobbits. Frodo however, was the only one he truly cared for. All the other Hobbits were annoyances to him.
Bilbo got up & stored his book in a small stash where it looked inconspicuous. The book wasn't finished, noone was allowed to read it yet. After hiding his book, he walked out to the kitchen to discover that Frodo had ran past him into the library & picked up one of his books, he then hurried back to the door to walk out.
"Where are you going?" Bilbo asked befuddled. "I'm going out in the woods to read one of your books!" The young Hobbit answered with a smile. Bilbo chuckled in response, "Well be back for the preparations. It's my birthday today if you hadn't noticed." The old Hobbit scoffed. Frodo smiled at his uncle, assuring him.
"How could i forget, Bilbo." He then ran off to the woods on the border of Shire, to take his place next to the road on a curved tree that he could lie on.
After half an hour of reading, Frodo could hear what sounded like a hum or a song. There was a certain jolly tone to it as it echoed through the woods. Frodo started listening carefully as he recognized the voice. The Hobbit boy shot up with a big smile to his face, then ran off to the small hill overlooking the road into the Shire.
"The Road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, And I must follow, if I can." The humming went. Frodo couldn't help it, his entire body felt joyful as he heard the song echoing closer to him as he ran.
Then he stopped. He looked down towards the road, and looked at the tall figure sitting on his carriage. A large, grey pointy hat & grey robes was his outfit.
"You're late." Frodo put on his best acting ability, trying to seem disappointed by crossing his arms.
The figure looked up slightly from his large hat, coughing from his smoking pipe. He looked slightly annoyed.
"A wizard is never late, nor is he early." The bearded old man said scornfully. "He arrives precisely when he means to." He continued as he tried to keep a straight face.
Frodo's expression dramatically changed into a laugh at the same time as the wizards. They both laughed with joy in their eyes, as Frodo jumped down from the hill into the arms of the man.
"Gandalf!" Frodo shouted, overjoyed as he hugged the wizard.
Frodo and Gandalf talked, the young hobbit told the wizard he thought Bilbo was up to something. Gandalf however didn't worry Frodo, but he understood the one ring is behind it.
The young hobbit jumps off the cart and looked back at the wizard. "Gandalf, I'm glad you're back." The wizard smiled back and laughs, "So am I, dear boy! So am I." Gandalf stops the cart outside of Bilbo's hobbit hole. He knocks on the door with his staff, as he heard Bilbo's annoying voice inside there. "No thank you! We don't want any more visitors, well-wishers, or distant relations!" Bilbo yelled from inside, Gandalf then straightened his back. "And what about very old friends?" He smirked when Bilbo heard who it was a smile was seen on his face and he opened the door for the wizard. "Gandalf?" Bilbo walked out and looked at the tall wizard. "My dear Gandalf!" The hobbit gives Gandalf a hug, he fought the forthcoming tears. The hobbit was very happy to see his old friend again. "Good to see you! One hundred and eleven years old, who would believe it? You haven't aged a day." Gandalf rests his hands on Bilbo's shoulders, smiling. "Tea? Or maybe something a little stronger?" Bilbo asked with a chuckle. "I've got a few bottles of the Old Winyard left. Twelve ninety-six, very good year. Almost as old as I am! Haha!" Bilbo hangs up Gandalf's hat and disappears down the corridor on his hunt for refreshments.
"It was laid down by my father. What say we open one, eh?" Bilbo was happy to have Gandalf over, he was tired sick of all the Hobbits who waited on edge for him to jump into his grave, so they could take over Bag End after his passing. "Just tea, thank you." Gandalf there bent double, backs into the chandelier. He steadies it, but then bumps his head onto the beam and utters an "Ooooff.." Nursing the pain, he enters Bilbo's study and sees the map of the Lonely Mountain mounted on a frame. He picks it up to examine it.
Meanwhile, Bilbo was pottering around in the kitchen and talking. "I was expecting you sometime last week! Not that it matters, you come and go as you please. Always have done and always will. You caught me a bit unprepared, I'm afraid. We've only got cold chicken and a bit of pickle… Oh, there's some cheese here. Oh, no. That won't do. Err, we got raspberry jam and an apple tart… Not much for afters, I'm afraid. Oh, no we're all right! I've found some sponge cake. I could make you some eggs if you like, oh. Gandalf?" Gandalf showed up behind Bilbo in the hall, he had to bend his back to not rise to his full length and hit the roof. "Just tea, thank you." He reminded the hobbit, "Oh, right!" Bilbo answered with a mouthful of sponge cake. "You don't mind if I eat, do you?" The hobbit asked, holding the plate of the cake. "Oh no, not at all."
Gandalf sits down on a chair just inside the kitchen entrance. There is a knocking on the door and a woman shouting. "Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins!" Bilbo hides as he heard the woman's voice, he looked at Gandalf. "I'm not at home!" He tiptoes up to the front window and peers out to identify the unwanted visitor. "It's the Sackville-Bagginses!" Sackville-Baggins are still outside of Bilbo's home, "I know you're in there!" She called. "They're after the house. They've never forgiven me for living this long!" Bilbo still eats his cake, then the hobbit disappears into the kitchen. "I've got to get away from these confounded relatives hanging on the bell all day, never giving me a moment's peace!" Bilbo puts down his cake and stares out his window. While Gandalf tries to make himself comfortable at Bilbo's hobbit-sized table. "I want to see mountains again, mountains Gandalf! And then find somewhere quiet where I can finish my book. Oh, tea!" He hurries to prepare the tea.
"So, you mean to go through with your plan, then," Gandalf asked, the hobbit nods and was ready to pour the hot water into the teapot. Gandalf lifts the lid off, as Bilbo pours the water into it. "Yes, yes. It's all in hand. All the arrangements are made." "Frodo suspects something." Gandalf took a sip of his tea, which still was hot. "'Course he does. He's a Baggins! Not some blockheaded Bracegirdle from Hardbottle." Bilbo smiled and put the hot water away. "You will tell him, won't you?" The old wizard asked his friend who nods, and again. "Yes, yes."
"He's very fond of you." Bilbo smiled for a brief moment and knew he too cares about the boy. "I know. He'd probably come with me if I asked him." The hobbit smiled to himself. "I think, in his heart, Frodo's still in love with the Shire. The woods, the fields. Little rivers." "I'm old, Gandalf. I know I don't look it, but I'm beginning to feel it in my heart." Gandalf's gaze is drawn downwards to Bilbo's waistcoat pocket as the Hobbit's fingers begin to fidget with something inside it. Gandalf let out a frown and understood what the hobbit kept hidden.. "I feel thin. Sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread." Bilbo sits down wearily at the table. "I need a holiday. A very long holiday and I don't expect I shall return. In fact, I mean not to!"
Evening falls on Hobbiton. Bilbo and Gandalf sit peacefully smoking a pipe outside Bag End. Below them, in the party field, sounds of laughter and revelry float up from a growing crowd of Hobbits preparing for their evening's entertainment. Torches and candles light a festive scene and everywhere food is rapidly filling up the space on wooden trestles. "Old Toby. The finest weed in the Southfarthing." Bilbo blows a large ring of smoke which hangs gently in the still air. Gandalf sucks his cheeks in and out, blows a majestic, full-rigged ship that he blows through the ring.
"My old friend. This will be a night to remember." Then the feast began to celebrate Bilbo Baggin's 111 birthday. To everyone's surprise Bilbo had his speech, but he disappeared with thin air. Like magic. No one understood what happened, but Gandalf knew that the ring he used and he have had it for far too long. Before Bilbo left the Shire, the hobbit had given the ring to the wizard, he left for Rivendell where he can rest and continue his book. Bilbo will also meet old faces in the house of Elrond.
The ring wants to be found by its master, and evil will be coming to the Shrie if not Frodo leaves. Gandalf told Frodo to take the ring with him. Leave the Shire and go to the Prancing Pony where the wizard will meet the hobbit. For Frodo not to go alone, Sam follows his friend. However as they come to the Prancing Pony, Gandalf never shows up and the owner of the place says he hasn't seen the wizard since seven years ago. Gandalf had taken off to where Saruman is in Isengard. Finding out he is betrayed by him, and Saruman is following Sauron's command and he's already building an army of orcs.
Frodo was accompanied by fellow Hobbits, Sam, Merry & Pippin. They were all friends since they were young, especially Sam & Frodo, whom had a strong bond ever since they first met in their young years. Frodo was handed the task of delivering the ring to Bree where Gandalf would be waiting. He rode off from the Shire seeking answers, but before he did, he gave Sam the mission of escorting Frodo & assisting him on his quest. Whle striding through the tall cornfields outside the woods of the Shire, they encountered Merry & Pippin whom had stolen lots of ripe corn from the fields.
While hurrying through the forest, escaping the owner of the field, the Hobbits encountered a Nazgûl - a ringwraith that was searching for the One ring. The Hobbits succeeded at hiding long enough for them to reach a small bridge that was situated on the lake that led to Bree.
As the Hobbits narrowly escaped the deadly ringwraith, Frodo & Sam fell asleep on the boat while Merry & Pippin steered the boat. When they got to Bree, Gandalf was not at the Prancing Pony. However, another figure had been waiting. After a couple of dramatic & hectic minutes, the figure introduced himself as "Ranger" & he had full knowledge of the ring that Frodo was carrying. He also knew that the ringwraits were hunting the Hobbit friends, and he needed to keep them safe. Through the night in Bree, the group avoided the ringwraiths hunting them. With the help from the Ranger, they succeeded in bluffing them. After the long night, the Ranger decided to escort the young Hobbits to Rivendell, where he knew they would be safe.
Through the journey to Rivendell, the group stayed for a night atop Weathertop, which was a former castle that was now ruined. Through a foolish mistake on Pippin & Merry's part, starting a fire to cook bacon, the ringwraiths located the Hobbits from the visible fire in the distance & quickly ascended the mountaineous hill.
The Hobbits tried protecting themselves & they didn't need to for very long, as the Ranger arrived just in time to chase the wraiths off, but not quick enough to keep the leader of the wraiths from stabbing Frodo in his shoulder. As it was a Morgul blade that pierced him, the area that was struck was no infected with darkness that soon started to overtake him. The Ranger quickly started to search for the herb known as Kingsfoil, as to keep the infection from spreading. On his search, he encountered Arwen - his fianceé.
After a little arguing, it was decided that Arwen would ride with Frodo to Rivendell. After much peril & getting chased by the Nazgûl, Arwen finally arrived in Rivendell with Frodo. Through elven care, Frodo was slowly brought to health again. His friends arrived shortly after with the Ranger.
Gandalf is seated on Frodo's bed, smoking his pipe while he is looking over Frodo. The bedroom opens on to a beautiful garden with the balcony doors opened. The noise of falling water is mixed with bird songs. Frodo waked up and sits up in the bed, he still felt the pain in his shoulder, but ignored it as he asked, "Gandalf?"
"Yes… I'm here. And you're lucky to be here, too. A few more hours and you would have been beyond our aid. But you have some strength in you, my dear hobbit!" Gandalf smiled to Frodo, who was concerned about why Gandalf didn't show up at the Pranncing Pony.
"What happened, Gandalf? Why didn't you meet us?" Frodo asked the wizard, who fell into a silnce and Frodo could see the wizard looked like he was betrayed. Which he was. "Oh I'm sorry Frodo… I was delayed."
Silnce fell upon the two. But someone then walks into the room, and it's Sam. He rushes to the bed's side clasping his hand in joy to see his friend alright.
"Bless you, you're awake!" Frodo was glad to see Sam be alright too after the ringwraits who had hunted them.
"Sam has hardly left your side." Gandalf smiled to the two. "We were that worried about you, weren't we Mister Gandalf?" Sam nods to the wizard, "By the skills of Lord Elrond, you're beginning to mend."
Then Elrond king of Rivendell enters the room and smiles down at Frodo. "Welcome to Rivendell, Frodo Baggins."
Frodo soon met Bilbo here aswell, who showed him the book he is writing about the adventrue, the lonely mountain, the key to the hidden door. About Thorin and the company.
There was drawings of everyone from the company of Thorin Oakenshield. Which grabbed Frodo's attention. Two faces grabbed his attention, of a girl where it stood, The daughter of the Moon. And a man, The wolf knight. Ori had drawn them all, as he was the one in the company who liked to write and draw under the journey.
Bilbo smiled to Frodo as he looked at the well made sketches. It has been more then 60 years since Bilbo last saw his friends.
"I wish I could see them again." Bilbo almost sobbed, he didn't even know if they were alive. Frodo rest his hand on Bilbo's shoulder and understood Bilbo missed them.
"It is a burden he should never have had to bear. We can ask no more of Frodo." Gandalf said to Elrond, the two talked more privately about what to do with the ring.
"Gandalf, the enemy is moving. Sauron's forces are massing in the east his eye is fixed on Rivendell. And Saruman you tell me has betrayed us. Our list of allies grows thin." Elrond spoke aloud and eyed his old friend.
"His treachery runs deeper than you know. By foul craft Saruman has crossed Orcs with goblin-men, he's breeding an army in the caverns of Isengard. An army that can move in sunlight and cover great distance at speed. Saruman is coming for the Ring." Gandalf said to the elven king.
"This evil cannot be concealed by the power of the Elves. We do not have the strength to fight both Mordor and Isengard!" Gandalf moves away, deep in thought. "Gandalf, the Ring cannot stay here." Gandalf stands at Elrond's window, looks out and sees a group of new arrivals in the garden. He didn't want to let Frodo to take more burden from the ring.
A man, an Elf and companions, and a party of Dwarves all dismount and stare around in wonder. Legolas, son of Thranduil. Glimi, son of Gloin. And Boromir, son of Arathorn. Had all arrived at the house of Elrond.
During the gathering, Boromir encountered the son of Arathorn & the heir to Isildur, Aragorn, whom took the mantle of Ranger for the protection of the Hobbits the days before.
Other than staring at eachother from a distance, they exchanged a few glances at the sword that cut Sauron's ring from his hand, Narsil. It had been broken ever since that day, now displayed in pieces where it laid on a stone plate that was upheld by a kneeling statue. "Narsil." The son of Denethor spoke aloud with awe in his voice. Boromir lifted the blade up & felt the edge with his thumb. He accidentally cut himself. "It's still sharp." He said quietly, then saw how Aragorn was observing him.
"But nothing more than a broken elvish blade." He snapped angrily. He then placed the broken hilt on the stone again, only for it to fall down because of his haste, clankering on the floor. Boromir walked away, seemingly full of thought.
Aragorn sighed quietly to himself, then rose from his seat & wandered over to Narsil, misplaced on the floor next to the statue. He picked the blade up & put it back to where it belonged. Arwen then walked up to him out of the shadows & urged him to follow through with his destiny.
Elrond called for a meeting in which they would decide on what to do with the Ring of Power. Elven, Dwarven & Human representatives all gathered in a large circle, seated on sculpted chairs. Frodo was also present, sitting next to Gandalf.
"Strangers from distant lands, friends of old, you have been summoned here to answer the threat of Mordor. Middle Earth stands upon the brink of destruction; none can escape it. You will unite or you will fall. Each race is bound to this fate, this one doom. Bring forth the ring, Frodo." Elrond asked the young Hobbit with a soothing voice.
The ring was placed on a stone pedestal in the middle of the group. Frodo could feel a heavy burden leave him as he left the ring on the stone & walked back to his chair. He was visibly relieved.
Boromir reacted, sitting in his chair & stroking his beard. "So it is true. In a dream, I saw the Eastern sky grow dark. But in the West, a pale light lingered. A voice was crying, "The doom is near at hand, Isildur's Bane is found." The stewards son reached out his hand, staring at the ring laid bare before him. "Isildur's Bane... " He uttered, "Boromir!" Aragorn shouted, ready to act by almost pulling his sword. But Gandalf shot up from his chair, walking towards the ring while speaking in a loud voice.
"Ash Nazg Durbatuluk, Ash Nazg Gimbatul, Ash Nazg Thrakatuluk, Agh Burzum-ishi Krimpatul." The wizard rumbled as the skies darkened & the winds started howling.
Elrond was very upset, staring at Gandalf with intent. "Never before has any one dared utter the words of that tongue here in Imladris." He said calmly but annoyed. Gandalf then looked at his old elf friend while peering through his eyes. " I do not ask for pardon, Master Elrond, for the Black Speech of Mordor may yet be heard in every corner of the West."
As he finished his sentence, loud stomping could be heard from a small distance. The clatter of steel against steel was apparent, and Elves, Dwarves & Humans alike started reacting from the noise, believing a monstruous threat was incoming.
"Greetings, everyone!" A womans voice could be heard, echoing between the waterfalls & cliffs standing over Rivendell. All the representatives turned, and saw what seemed like a giant standing behind them, but they realised it was a giant man clad in chrome metal. On the shoulder of the unusually large person, a girl's figure could be outlined, sitting down & holding her arms around the throat of the man.
As the woman's voice echoed through the waterfalls, cliffs, and behind the group of the council. Everyone's eyes lend on the giant man and the small female, who sat on his shoulder smirking as they looked at them.
Some of them were very surprised to see the knight and assassin, after 60 years since last time. Gandalf stood up from his seat as so did Elrond, Legolas and Glóin. Glimi's father Glóin were sent by Dáin Ironfoot to this council.
"By my beard!" Glóin the old dwarf, had spoken aloud. His son Gimli, looked at his father with a confused look. "The two of ye haven't changed a day!" The old dwarf chuckled, as he felt a bit overwhelmed to see his old friends again. "Who are those two?" Boromir was the first to ask, as he rose his eyebrow in confusion. Still sitting in his chair, Elrond answered. "Haven't you heard of them before, Boromir son of Arathorn?" Elrond asked the man, who shook his head slightly. Then looked at the giant man and small female who sat on his shoulder, with one leg crossed over her other and arms crossed over her chest.
The two had large swords in their hilts, daggers, and bow and arrows. Their cloaks were matching, red with hoods. Valerie was wearing the armor of black steel, for her knees, shoulders, wrist, and elbows. It wasn't uncomfortable to wear. She also had skin-tight black pants, long black-sleeved top, over she has a matching well-made corset with small details and high over knee boots with her red cloak over her shoulders. Her blonde hair shone brightly in the sunlight, it was styled loosely and reached down to her shoulders. Valerie also had the charm necklace, the eye of the mountain. Which was given to her by Thorin, she never had taken off her. "Rash and Valerie! I have missed you, my dear friends." Gandalf had walked up to the two and give them a tight hug.
"They are here to help us." The wizard added looking at everyone. Legolas smiled wide to see the two, Aragon nods, and the first time he saw them, however, Boromir frowned.
"A woman to help us? I understand the giant man will be used for help. But the girl will only waste our time." He was clearly irritated. "This has to be a joke!" Boromir tended to be rude towards people he didn't know much about. "If you speak one word like that again about Valyria, you'll have my ax in your thick skull." Glóin barked with fury, at the human man. Gandalf, Elrond, and the Knight now glared at the human, who spoke so unfriendly about Valerie. However, she was surprisingly calm by the man's rude attitude. Her fierce eyes only stared at him.
"Are Bilbo alright, is he here?" Valerie asked the wizard, who nods his head. "He is dear, and the two of you will meet him soon." Now Frodo remembers, from the sketches he had seen from the book Bilbo had written. The small hobbit's eyes were wide but he smiled to actually see them in person.
"You two were with Bilbo on the journey to the Lonely Mountian, right?" Frodo asked, he felt suddenly excited to see such a legends Bilbo had told him, right before his eyes. Now Boromir rose an eyebrow, still, he didn't believe what the hobbit just had said.
Gandalf nods and rests a hand on Frodo's shoulder, smiling at him. "Yes, they were one of Thorin Oakenshield's company to reclaim their home in Erebor from the dragon Smaug, 60 years ago."
Such was the curiousity of Frodo Baggins, that he couldn't keep himself from asking about the adventure that was beset on these two figures. They were good friends with his Uncle, so how could he not?
It was decided that Frodo would be the ringbearer, but that he would be accompanied by none other than Gimli, Legolas, Aragorn, Gandalf, Rash & Valerie. While the fellowship was already sizeable enough, Boromir decided that he couldn't let the fate of middle Earth be risked by people that he harbored distrust for. Then, Merry, Sam & Pippin all rushed into the secret meeting, seemingly uncaring for the fact that it was supposed to be secret.
Such was the motivation of all these different individuals, that they would all give their life in protection of Frodo.
After the meeting, things were to be prepared for the long road ahead of them. Valerie & Rash were preparing Valerie's horse in the stables of Rivendell.
"You're anxious." The giant man spöke calmly. He wandered over to Valerie who was carressing the elf-tamed horse. He laid his large hand on hers. "And cold." He muffled as he looked down on her with a concerned look. Rash knew that her attitude had slightly changed since they arrived at Rivendell. Her eyes went colder & she grew distant. After all these years of spending time with her on countless adventures, he knew when things were wrong. He thought that this trip to Rivendell would serve like a place to get away with eachother, where there were large feasts, long bouts of elven song under the starry skies.
He Rose his hand to her cheek and stroked her gently.
Bilbo was with Frodo and he gived him the mithril shirt, which Thorin once had given Bilbo. He knew that Frodo will have use for it, but then the old hobbit saw the ring on the necklace that Frodo wear. The old hobbit held his hands, his eyes fixed on the ring, as he asked if he would just hold it for a moment. However Frodo saw the change in Bilbo's eyes and stepped back.
Bilbo snapped in a fury, and his appearance changed as he was looking like he was an pale ghost, which sceared Frodo. In a brief moment Bilbo was back to his normal self, he sat down on a chair and held his hand up to his head as he started to sob. He was sorry that Frodo had to take this burden.
Frodo brought his uncle for a tight hug and rest his hands on Bilbo's shoulders. He smiled to him, "Bilbo, there are people back in Rivendell that you have missed." Frodo told him, and he rose up from the chair he was sitting on. "My dear boy, did you meet them?" He asked and a light was seen in his eyes, Frodo chuckled and nods.
Before leaving Rivendell in dawn tomorrow, everyone got their ponies ready for the long road which was waiting ahead for them.
The sun was behind the hill and leaving a beautiful orange color of the sky above.
Valerie met Rash's green eyes, as he gently caressed her cheek she leaned into his touch. She held her hand over his, and stopped with the things she were doing. Valerie missed Thorin and Kili with each day that passed by, from the day she left Erebor. They have always had a special place in her heart.
Rivendell was no longer the same for her. It was still beautiful with the landscape and waterfalls, but it didn't bring her the feelings she once had felt, when they was here years ago. There was nothing, more then sorrow.
"Rivendell looks like it always have, 60 years have passed and nothing have changed here." Sadness was seen in her eyes, she couldn't but think about the old times they had with the company here.
"It's almost like we had travelled back in time.." She swallowed down the knot in her throat, a hint of sadness was heard in her voice.
"Yes, I am worried." Valerie nods, as she looked up at Rash. "Worried that I will lose you and Akandir, on this task to bring the ring to Mordor." Valerie told the truth, the fear of losing him would make her go insane.
"That inner power will take control over me, which I myself awaked when Bolg wiped Kili's life right in front of my eyes." She spoke, "What frightens me is that I cannot fight that power. And there would be no one to stop me.. I would be a much bigger threat like that ring is to Middle-Earth." Valerie now had to fight the forthcoming tears in her eyes as she thought about the death of Kili and Thorin. Also the thought of losing Rash and Akandir would change the assassin for good.
"You have seen what it did to me, and I can't fight back that rage if I lose you."
Rash looked at Valerie as his face grew less tense & his eyes softened. He felt a faint sorrow such as Valerie did when they entered Rivendell. Her words spoke true, the elven haven hadn't changed at all since their last visit there. Nor had it the last thousand years, from what Rash could remember. He had visited Rivendell several times before, both in spirit form & physical.
But now it was different. For the first time in millenia, Rash had formed friendships with the company of Thorin Oakenshield & love for a certain human woman. When her heart bled, so did his & when his heart bled, so did Akandir's. The wolf spirit's love for the human girl was apparent, except not romantically so.
Rash directed Valerie's face up towards him, holding her chin with his finger. He bowed down to meet her as she stretched upwards to meet his face with hers.
Arwen was worried about Aragorn. She had dark dreams about the future, and the fact that her love was leaving to end the threat of the last true dark lord only worried her even more. Sauron was incredibly powerful, and his continued existence gnawed on all elves minds. Not only had the elves been betrayed by the dark lord when he was still known as the Mairon, the admirable, but they had doomed themselves when their elven lords had imbued their power into the rings that they received.
Now, even if Sauron was successfully defeated, that would mean the end of elven magic, ending their immortality. So for that reason alone, Arwen felt great sorrow. If Sauron would be defeated, it was Arwen's duty as princess to follow her father into the west, where the Valar resided & where magic flourished with their godly essence.
So it was with great sorrow that Aragorn left her with his fellowship. However, before he left, she gave him her Evenstar Pendant - a necklace with a beautiful stone that resembled a star & glittered with a light that entranced any being that looked upon it, almost rivaling the seductiveness of the one ring.
She gave him this most beautiful pendant, not to keep as a token, but as a reminder of their love.
He bent down to her as she stretched upwards, their lips pressed against each other with perfect rhythm. The sensation was like a flame, lips against lips, their tongues brushed against each other, but it was emotional. She kissed him with hunger for something she didn’t understand. Valerie wrapped her arms around his neck, running her fingers through his black hair. Rash hands roamed her spine, her hips and their way up to her long hair and her neck. She then pulled a few inches away from his lips, burying her face against his neck, and digging her nails into his shoulders.
Rash held Valerie close to him, his arms wrapping around her waist, the tip of his chin resting on her head. The two quitely stood together for a moment, just listening to the bird songs and the sound from the waterfall.
They left the stables, Valerie's horse was ready but it was not time for them to leave Rivendell. The knight and assassin walked their back to the house of Elrond. On their way in the long hall, they met someone very familiar.
"Bilbo!" Valerie spoke, she felt a smile on her lips and the hobbit ran his way over to them.
"Valerie! Rash!" The hobbit ran up to the two and gived them a tight hug, together they bent down on one knee, to be the same length as Bilbo. "You haven't changed a day, my friend!" Valerie smiled and the hobbit chuckled of her compliment.
"And the two of you are just as I remember. Young and strong. Oh.. I am so glad to finally see you again!" Bilbo felt overwhelmed to see Rash and Valerie, after all those years he had been waiting for this day.
Bilbo had taken both Rash and Valerie's hand as he walked in the middle of the two. The hobbit was proud to be by their side again, and more then happy to be in their company to laugh like the old days.
He had missed it and to be on an adventure. But he knew he was too old to join them, he would stay here in Rivendell and wave them goodbye when they will leave for Mordor.
And left they did, the fellowship of the ring finally edged away from the borders of Rivendell towards a dangerous future. On foot they travelled, with only Valerie being the only one who rode on horseback. When they left the borders of Rivendell, Valerie looked down on Frodo who was walking with his friends behind her & she took pity on the fact that the one that was the most important out of the fellowship, would have to walk. So she decided that she would ride with him, and by that she nudged Rash, whom was walking next to her & the horse. He looked at her, a little confused, then to Frodo, who walked behind her.
The giant man understood the motion & took a large step back, picking the small hobbit up from the ground. Frodo was a little surprised as his blue eyes shot up & he shouted "Whoa!". Rash placed Frodo in front of Valerie, so that he would be secure next to her bosom. "I much prefer walking." Frodo said silently, not wanting to upset Sam, Pippin & Merry. His Hobbit friends looked up on Frodo. Merry & Pippin were clearly jealous.
"Why can't we ride?" Merry asked childishly annoyed. He then felt weightless as a strong force lifted him up instantly, and he was placed gently down on what felt like a saddle. He then noticed how he was sitting on Rash, more exactly on his shoulder. "It seems we can." Pippin said, facing Merry on the other shoulder. Then he started laughing. The laughter spread to the rest of the fellowship as Aragorn & Legolas smiled, Gimli & Gandalf laughed heartily & Rash chuckling silently. As he chuckled, Merry & Pippin almost fell off, but due to Rash's fast reflexes, he quickly adjusted himself so that they would be more comfortable.
Valerie looked to her left as she ruffled Frodo's hair, looking at Rash. She felt her heart race as she watched the three individuals together. Things were getting lighter as they left Rivendell & Valerie once again felt like another great adventure was brewing. Her worry had left for just a bit, as she felt reassured by Rash's continued presence.
"We must keep the course west of the Misty Mountains for 40 days. If the tour lasts is Rohan gap open. From there, we go east toward Mordor." Had the wize old wizard told the fellowship as they continued their joruney.
They had stopped to eat, setting up a campfire. While Pippin and Merry trained sword fighting with Boromir, who learned them.
"Move your feet." Aragorn spoke, from smoking his pipe and sitting on a rock and had his eyes and attention on the sword fight. Frodo and Sam talked some and watching their friends.
Rash and Valerie sat together on a rock, the two're also watching as the hobbit's and the human sword-fight trained.
"If anyone wants to know my opinion, which no one wants. So it's a long detour." The dwarf spoke aloud and walked up to Gandalf. Who had taken his hat off, and sat on a cliff a few meters away from the others.
"Gandalf, we could pass through the Mines of Moria." Gimli told the wizard. "My cousin Balin give us a royal welcome." He added with a wide and proud smile. Now the knight and assassin was listening to Gimli as he spoke to Gandalf.
The wizard however shook his head. "No Gimli. I would just go through Moria unless I had no other choice." He answered and Glimi frowned.
Valerie looked now at Rash. She couldn't but wonder if something has happened to Balin and the other of the dwarves. Gandalf seem to know something, but he didn't tell what it was.
Legolas then spotted someting from the mountains far away, and grabbed Gandalf's attention also.
Then the hobbit's had tackled down Boromir to the ground, he dropped his sword as the three of them was laughing. "For the Shire!" Merry laughed.
"Gentlemen, that's enough." Aragorn lays a hand on either Hobbit's shoulder. But Pippin and Merry was quick as they grabs his legs, pulling him so he fell down on his back.
Valerie and Rash had also turned their attention to the strange cloud that has appeared, far to the South.
Sam also takes notice of Legolas's observation. "What is that?" The hobbit asked, his eyes set on the cloud. "Nothing, it's just a whiff of cloud." The dwarf spoke in response.
Boromir was getting up from the ground, a hand on either Hobbit's shoulders. "It's moving fast. Against the wind." He said, and the fellowship knew it was danger about to happen. "Crebain from Dunland!" Legolas called out.
"Hide, everyone!"Aragorn yelled out. Frodo took the food which was left and hide it, Sam poured water over the campfire, so the fire burn out easy and quickly.
The company took shelter behind of the rocks, as the ravens flew over scanning to where the company was hiding.
As when the the row of ravens had left, Gandalf walks out from his hiding spot. "Spies of Saruman! The passage South is being watched." The fellowship comes out from the rocks.
"We must take the Pass of Caradhras." Now they all turns around, looking up at a great, snowy mountain.
Before taking off to the snowy mountain, Valerie set her horse free and let it ran back to Rivendell. She didn't have the heart to let the poor animal freeze to death.
So the fellowship travelled over the landscape & started to climb Caradhras by walking on its steep slopes. It was very cold & the Snow was unbearable, blowing against the fellowship, halting their progression.
When the fellowship had reached the middle of the mountain, Gandalf realized that they were not even close to the end of their climb. Just at that moment, Legolas shouted.
"There's a voice, howling in the winds!" The fellowship looked around åt eachother confused. Gandalf listened well & heard it. A spell was being shouted at the mountain.
The voice was heard louder & louder so that the entirity of the fellowship could hear it.
"It's Saruman!" Gandalf shouted. As he did, the voice reached a climax where it seemed to be filled with anger, now yelling through the winds. Enormous chunks of snow cracked away from the mountain above them, and came crashing down on the fellowship. Aragorn was quick to shield Frodo with his cloak. So was Boromir, who flew over Merry & Pippin with his shield.
Rash jumped to the front of the company to shield everyone else with his body.
For what seemed to be several minutes, the mountain looked untouched by the footprints & signs of the fellowship. Rash rose from the snowy grave that buried him, Gandalf, Valerie, Legolas & Gimli. He shook his head to clear the snow, as did everyone else. "Frodo, where is Frodo!?" Gandalf yelled. "Here." A small voice was heard. Frodo was wrapped in Aragorns cape, as Aragorn rested his hand on the hobbits head.
Gandalf smiled, nodding to Aragorn. "Good, Good." The wizard said calmly.
"We should have taken the mines of Moria. We can still turn back & survive this." Gimli said sharply.
Gandalf sighed, then looked at Frodo. "We'll let the ringbearer decided." Gandalf said.
Frodo looked around at the members of the fellowship, seemingly unsure. He then opened his mouth & spoke highly. "We go through the mines." He spoke with a certain finality.
Gandalf nodded with a worried expression. "Moria it is."
The Fellowship passes south, along the misty shadow of an aqueduct's ruins. "Frodo, come and help an old man." Gandalf walked away with Frodo under his arm.
"How is your shoulder?" The wizard asked, worried that the hobbit was unwell, to bear this burden. "Better than it was." Frodo response looking up at the wizard. "And the Ring?" Frodo nods as a reply.
"You feel it’s power growing, don't you? I've felt it too. You must be careful now. Evil will be drawn to you from outside the Fellowship. And, I fear, from within." Gandalf told him carefully, Frodo nods.
"Who then do I trust?" The hobbit asked, "You must trust yourself. Trust your own strengths." "What do you mean?" He asked, and looked up at the wizard.
"There are many powers in this world, for Good or for Evil. Some are greater than I am. And against some I have not yet been tested."
"The Walls… of Moria!" Gimli broke the silnce between the company.
The Fellowship stands and looks upon a vast cliff face. "Dwarf doors are invisible when closed." The dwarf knocks his axe against a rock. The Fellowship moves along the wall, searching for a door.
Gandlad nods, and as he answered the dwarf. ”Yes, Gimli, their own masters cannot find them, if their secrets are forgotten."
"Why doesn't that surprise me?" Legolas asked, continued to search for the door. This was like the time when they were in Erebor, trying to find the hidden door which also was sealed by old magic.
A foot splashes into shallow water. Frodo gasps, pulling his leg back. A great pool sits beside the rock face. Gandalf approaches the rock between two trees, and runs his hand over the cliff face.
"Now… let's see. Ithildin." Beneath his hand run spidery silver lines, faint beneath the dirt. "It mirrors only starlight… and moonlight." As he looks up at the black night sky, the moon appears. The silver lines grow bright, outling a door formed of two columns beneath an arch, with a star in the center.
"It reads 'The Doors of Durin, Lord of Moria. Speak, friend, and enter.'" Merry rose his eyebrow, asking. "What do you suppose that means?"
Gandalf turned his head to look at the hobbit and the others. "Oh, it's quite simple. If you are a friend, you speak the password, and the doors will open." Gandalf then tried to speak of the Elves, open now for me!
"Annon Edhellen, edro hi ammen!" The words didn’t work, as the sealed Doors remain closed. But he tried again, "Fennas Nogothrim, lasto beth lammen." Doorway of the Dwarf-folk, listen to the word of my tongue.
"Nothing's happening." Pippin spoke, which made Gandalf to glances at him, looking slightly annoyed. He begins to push on the doors, but they remain fast.
"I once knew every spell in all the tongues of Elves, Men and Orcs." Gandalf sighed, "What are you going to do, then?" Pippin asked, "Knock your head against these doors, Peregrin Took! And if that does not shatter them, and I am allowed a little peace from foolish questions, I will try to find the opening words." Gandalf barked, this was a new side of him to see for at least Rash and Valerie who had been by his side the longest.
Time passes by and the rest of the Fellowship is seated around the doors near the lake. "Ando Eldarinwa... a lasta quettanya, Fenda Casarinwa..." Gate of Elves... listen to my word, Threshold of Dwarves... Gandalf tried still to open te door, but it didn’t work. Merry begins to throw stones into the water. Pippin follows suit. "Do not disturb the water." Aragorn stops him.
"Oh, it's useless!" Gandalf sighed and dropped his staff and sits down beside Frodo, pulling off his hat.
Meanwhile, Valerie had taken a look on the door, she ran her fingers of the rune. ”Minno, of course.” She felt a small smile appered on her lips, as she knew the password.
The rest of the Fellowship watches, as the assassin figured the way out to open the door. "Pedo mellon a minno." Valerie said. Speak friend and enter. The stone doors slowly swing open, rumbling deeply. The Fellowship enters Moria.
"That's the only good thing the girl have done for us so far." Boromir spoke with a mockingly tone heard in his voice, while he looked over where Valerie stood. That made only Merry and Pippin to chuckle.
She felt her blood boil as that man spoke to her. Valerie also felt from the sword hilt that it was getting warmer. And from the coner of her eyes she could see the auburn color slowly made it's way to the blade.
As a deep and intense whisper began to speak to her. Telling her to show no mercy on that weak and pity human. Reminding her how much she hated the human race, from what they had once done to her.
Valerie knew, ofcourse, that it was the spirit of the dragon speaking to her. He had never been kind throughout the years that she had him sealed inside her sword. Over time, he had gotten more complacent & agreeable. But when her temper started to sway, the dragon took it's chances at releasing his power, thereby relieving him of his prison for just a while.
Rash rose from his seat on a large boulder & felt a strange sensation, like he was being observed by something unseen. As he was thousands of years old, he knew when danger was close. He looked over to Valerie, whom he assumed made him feel uneasy. He picked up a small pebble and chucked it, and it bounced from hitting one of her boots. The girl looked around in annoyance & caught the gaze of Rash. He gave her an expression that told her she needed to calm herself. And she did, slowly turning away & following Rash & Gandalf into the old ruins. Next to her walking, was Gimli, who hurried up so he caught up to Gandalf & Legolas.
"Soon Master Elf, you will enjoy the fabled hospitality of the Dwarves. Roaring fires, malt beer, ripe meat off the bone." The joyful dwarf spoke as he entered the dark halls of Moria. There was no light, no fires. Gandalf put the end of his staff to his mouth & blew on it like a candle. It started to shine with a bright light. As it did, the halls were revealed slowly. That's when it hit Gandalf. What he feared was true, as he looked around at the ancient skeletons lying around, still equipped with royal armor. Arrows & axes were wedged into the long-dead dwarves & it was horrifying to see.
The fellowship then realized what was lying all around them. "This is not a mine. It's a tomb!" Boromir said with a knot in his voice, fear starting to creep up his spine.
Gimli panicked, spinning around to see all the death & decay in the large hall. "No!" He yelped. Another skeleton broke beneath him as he tried to walk, and he saw how the entire ground was littered with bones. "No!" He now yelled with an anguished cry.
Legolas was quick to pull an arrow out of one of the eyes of a skeletal dwarf, and he observed the arrow. "Goblins!" He said hastily, pulling an elven arrow from his quiver & getting ready for battle. Aragorn also pulled his sword, looking around for any kind of threat.
"We make for the gap of Rohan. We should never have come here." Boromir was quick to say, however the fellowship didn't seem sure. The four hobbits backed away together from the hall & toward the exit as Boromir shouted for them to get out. Then, something moved up Frodo's leg & slithered up his body as he was pulled out from the entrance to Moria. The fellowship were quick to react & started to run after Frodo being dragged.
It was a tentacle holding him, giant in size. Sam, Pippin & Merry were all quick to chop off the top end of the tentacle before it dragged him into the water. It seemed to wriggle in pain, and slithered back into the lake. However, a mass of several tentacles shot out from the water & grabbed at the hobbits. The entire lake started bubbling with fury, and tentacles were everywhere, almost swarming the surface of the lake.
The hobbits were slapped away as Frodo was once again caught by a tentacle. It pulled him high into the sky, directly above the middle of the lake.
That's when Legolas aimed his arrow quickly & shot at the tentacle. It wriggled around in pain but another tentacle grabbed Frodo's other leg. Then the middle of the lake rose up as a mass of teeth, came roaring out of the depths. It was a monster, ready to swallow Frodo whole as it held him directly above it's mouth. Aragorn struggled through the tentacles & succeeded in chopping the tentacle that was holding Frodo. Freefalling, Frodo landed in the arms of Boromir, who had tried keeping up with Aragorn.
Valerie's quickly reflexes were admirable, but the tentacles came at her from every direction. The irritation was bottling up inside her, and she felt like releasing that fury at the monster. Rash had ran up beside her however, then put his large hand on her shoulder. He nudged her to grab & help the Hobbits get inside Moria.
"Into the mines!" Gandalf yelled, as the fellowship retreated into the entrance again.
Legolas released several arrows but to no real avail, the monster furiously advanced after the group. The group made it inside however, while Legolas was keeping the monster slightly at bay. Rash stepped in front & pushed Legolas inside, through the entrance. He didn't pull his sword from his back, but readied his arms in what seemed like a wrestling stance. The monster came crashing against the giant knight, and the two wrestled to the point of the entire wall collapsing around them. The group were safe inside, however Valerie darted quickly back to the collapsed boulders. to help Rash. Gandalf put his hand up against her chest & stopped her & shook his head.
The panicked feeling in her throat now became unbearable. She wanted to scream as her eyes became bloodshot with despair. She could hear the rumbling outside, and it seemed that Rash hadn't been caught in the rubble. Loud piercing howls could be heard & a deep rumbling shook the ground.
Gandalf lightly put his hand on the girl's forehead, and a calming sensation rushed through her body as she fell asleep.
Aragorn walked up to Gandalf side, who held the girl in a bridal style. ”Is she going to be alright?” Aragorn asked the wizard, who nods. But sorrow was seen in the old wizards eyes.
"We now have but one choice." Gandalf said to everyone, and light appears from his staff, showing the startled and frightened faces of the Fellowship.
"We must face the long dark of Moria. Be on your guard. There are older and fouler things than Orcs, in the deep places of the world." He said and they begun to walk their way into the mines.
"Quietly now. It's a four-day journey to the other side. Let us hope that our presence may go unnoticed."
Time passes by, they had been here for four days and still not found an exit. The Fellowship enters a great cavern and Gandalf had soon lost his way. He didn't recognize this place anymore.
Valerie was now waking up, they had to rest for a moment as Gandalf need time to remeber the halls here. He sat by Valerie's side on a rock and had his eyes on her.
She opend her eyes, her vision become blurry at first, but soon clear. She remember what had happend, and looked up at Gandalf who sat next to her.
”Where is he?” Valerie asked, as a knot was building up in her throat. Gandalf sighed, she saw the sadness in his eyes. "Where is Rash?" She barked at him, when he didn't reply. ”I am so sorry, Val.” He rest a hand on her shoulder, trying to consol her.
"You left him there.." Her eyes was swallowed by tears. "You left him there to die!"
It made Valerie wonder what had happened to the old Wizard, who she had met in the Shire, 60 years ago. Now he had changed, and Rash was dead. She felt his death was because of the wizard.
Valerie's eyes grew cold, and so her heart. "Thorin was right." She spoke. "I shall never again have trust in wizards." She pushed the hand off from her shoulder and rose up to her feet and left the Fellowship. She ignoring him as when the wizard called her name, but stopped when Boromir spoke aloud.
"Let her go, she needs time." The human said understanding her loss. Valerie then disappeared with the shadows of the halls of Moria.
"Are we lost?" Pippin asked, Merry answered him, ”No.” The hobbit's then looked at Gandalf, who sat by himself and was quiet.
”Shh, you two.” Sam told them and they suddenly fell in silnce. They had all seen what happend to Rash, and they had all become fond of him. Also with Valerie, who was upbeat by losing him, made them all sorrowful.
It didn’t take long before the hobbit’s broke the silnce. ”Merry?” Pippin asked his old childhood friend, ”What?” Merry asked in an annoyed tone. ”I’m hungry.”
Frodo looks down into the cavern and sees a small figure leaping from stone to stone. Startled, he walks over to where Gandalf is sitting. "There's something down there!"
Gandalf looked at him without surprise. "It's Gollum." Bilbo had writed about Gollum in his book, he was the one he got the ring from. "Gollum?" Frodo asked, Gandalf had his pipe in his hand and smoked. "He's been following us."
Frodo then realised. "He escaped the dungeons of Barad-Dûr!" Gandalf looked at the hobbit. "Escaped? Or was set loose? And now the Ring had drawn him here. He will never be rid of his need for it. He hates and loves the Ring, as he hates and loves himself."
"Sméagol's life is a sad story. Yes, Sméagol he was once called. Before the Ring found him… before it drove him mad." The wizard sighed.
"It's a pity Bilbo didn't kill him when he had the chance!" Gandalf then glancing sharply at Frodo.
"Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death, and some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo?" Frodo looks down, silently.
"Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise can not see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play yet, for good or ill…" Gandalf spoke anew ”Before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many." Frodo takes a seat next down to Gandalf.
"I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened." A sad tone was heard in his voice as he spoke, then Gandalf rest a hand on his shoulder.
"So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, in which case you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought."
Gandalf looks towards one of the doorways.
"Oh! It's that way." He remembered the way where they should go. The Way Valerie had already taken, she had grown more distance and her eyes had grown colder, which worried Gandalf.
The fellowship wandered for a good few hours until they reached an enormous chamber. As the the mines were still very dark, the group couldn't make things out properly, until Gandalf used his staff to produce immense light that verberated through the chambers. What the fellowship saw was beyond epic scope, as the light revealed gigantic pillars that held the roof up. They were in the great halls of Moria, where feasts & events would take place. It was also the place of a long market where individuals far & few would set up shop.
Now however, it was barren, completely devoid of any sign of activity. But the sight of it was still tremendous. The fellowship followed a very large open space until they reached a room that was strangely lit. The door was a large hall that seemed to have been a throne room or such. In the middle, there was a large stone monument. Sadly, there were dwarven skeletons littered about the room in different positions where they had been slain. Some were pierced by arrows, others had huge cracks in their bones & skulls from vicious blows.
The light that was visible from the great halls outside, was a small stream of sunlight that shone upon the stone monument. Gimli rushed forward, as he recognised what type of monument it was. And a tomb it was. Gandalf hurried to the placate that was etched into the side of the tomb. "Here lies Balin, Son of Fundin, Lord of Erebor"
Gimli let out an anguished cry & sobbed as he knelt down next to the tomb. Balin was like a father to Gimli when he was young, often telling him as a boy about the stories & adventures of Middle-Earth. For Valerie, it was equally sorrowful. Balin had been her friend during their journey to the misty mountains. They had departed at the gates of Erebor, hugging eachother closely, promising to see eachother again. But Valerie didn't know in what way. Now she did, and she felt remorse for not visiting the dwarf lord any sooner. Thoughts in her head started to flush & she thought for a second that Rash was in the room, as she always had the right feeling when he was close.
But he wasn't. The halls were silent other than the fellowship wandering around.
Valerie stepped up to Gimli who had knelt before Balin's Tomb. She too, knelt next to the dwarf. She held up her arm & put it around Gimli, half-hugging him as she felt that they both needed comfort. However, the sorrow of losing Rash hadn't fully set in. She was still dazed & shocked, and the thought that he was dead didn't fully strike her.
That's what worried Gandalf. What would happen when she would realize that the love of her life had left for the spirit realm. He had seen such shock & sorrow before, and it never bode well for the accompanying party.
Gandalf picks up an old book from a corpse's hands. He opens it and clears the dirt from it's pages. "They have taken the bridges and the second hall.'" Gandalf was reading out load from the book. "'We have barred the gates, but cannot hold them for long. The ground shakes.'" Gandalf continues.
"'Drums, drums in the deep.'" The wizard looks up slowly, and turns the smudged, bloodstained page. The Fellowship begins to glance around uncomfortably. "'We cannot get out. A shadow moves in the dark.'"
Now Pippin stumbles back and sees a corpse with an arrow in it’s chest, sitting by a stone well. He turns towards it and reached his hand out to touch it. "'We cannot get out…'" Gandalf glances at the last, single line, a scrawl fading out at the bottom of the page. Gandalf looks up in the uncomfortable silence.
The silence is broken, Pippin who reaches out and lightly twists the arrow in the corpse. The skull slips off and fell into the well with a resounding crash. Gandalf whips around, his glare lends on the hobbit. Pippin looked very guilty. As he does, the rest of the corpse slips into the well, dragging with it a chain and bucket. Noise echoes from hall to hall far below. Pippin winces his eyes at each wave of noise.
The wizard slams the book shut. "Fool of a Took! Throw yourself in next time and rid us of your stupidity!" He pulls his hat and staff. Drums are heard booming in the hall, even more drums are heard booming. Frodo pulls out Sting and the blade glows a bright blue color. Boromir rushes to the doors to have a look. Arrows hiss into the door near his face, Aragorn drops his torch and runs to Boromir.
Legolas tosses weapons to Boromir and Aragorn to blockade the door. The Fellowship draw out their weapons, ready to fight. Valerie stepped in front of the hobbit's shielding them. Gimli leaps atop Balin's tomb and brandishes his axe. "Let them come! There is one dwarf yet in Moria who still draws breath!"
The beasts break through and the battle begins. A wave of armor-clad Orcs charge towards the Fellowship, who engage the Orcs. Aragorn and Legolas pierce Orcs with their arrows while Boromir smashes another with his sword, Gimli catches one in the stomach. With a roar, Gandalf launches himself into the fray, side by side with Valerie and the Hobbits follow.
A cave troll smashes through the doorway, chains leading from his wrists to an Orc's hand. Legolas shoots the cave troll in the shoulder, the beast growls and claps a hand to the wound. Sam continues to stare, frozen, as the troll swings his mace down at the Hobbit, he dives under the troll's legs and crawls away as the troll turns, and sights him again. Aragorn and Boromir are behind the troll, pulling on its chains. The troll twists it's arm and whips Boromir across the room. He lands in a recess of the wall, dazed.
An Orc stands above him, ready to strike. Across the room, Aragorn slings his blade into the Orc's neck and gets Boromir up giving him a nod.
Standing upon the tomb of Balin, Gimli the Dwarf slings an axe piercing the troll's shoulder. The troll swings his mace into the tomb, shattering it and knocking the Dwarf off.
The troll swings his chain above his head, at Valerie who dodges it. The chain wraps around a pillar. She ran along the chain onto the trolls shoulders. And stirked the troll in the back of the head with her sword and jumps quickly off. The troll raises his mace and brings it down at the other Hobbits, causing them to jump aside. The troll seeks Frodo, who tries to evade its searches by hiding behind a pillar.
Aragorn tried as the others to fight his way over to Frodo. The hobbit dodges around the pillar. But the troll peers around it. Frodo carefully looks around the pillar, the troll're gone. Then it blasts around the pillar, bellowing in Frodo's face. The Hobbit stumbles and falls in a corner. The troll grabs him but Frodo slashes the troll's hand with Sting. The troll drops him to the ground, twisting his injured hand, the hobbit raises it's mace and begins to swing, but Aragorn leaps down into the recess.
He grabs a spear from the floor and stabs the troll with it. It does not penetrate it's flesh, but holds the beast at bay. The hobbit's throw stones at the troll's head. The troll swings his arm down and hits Aragorn, sending him flying across the room. He collapses onto the floor. Frodo begins to run, but the troll blocks Frodo's path with it's spear. Throwing him back. The troll takes aim and stabs Frodo in the chest. The cave troll gapes in surprise at what it has done. Merry and Pippin glance at each other and their faces appear resolved the two leap onto the beast, stabbing him mercilessly.
Sam rushes bravely towards his friend. Broken from their shocked trance, Aragorn, Boromir, Valerie and Gandalf fight madly to reach the Hobbit. Frodo slumps to the floor, the spear sticking into his chest.
The troll flails at its head and grabs Merry, swinging him around and throwing him to the ground. Gandalf, Valerie and Gimli take turns stabbing at the troll and dodging out of range. Legolas amied, by shooting his arrow up into the brain through the mouth of the troll. With a long, pained moan, the troll collapses to the ground, dead. There is a moment of silence. All enemies are dead or have fled.
The fellowship all rushes over to where Frodo lied with the spear in his chest. Frodo groans, gasping for breath, but he was alive. Frodo reveals his Mithril shirt. It glimmers. Orcs are then heard in the distance.
"To the Bridge of Khazad-dûm!" The company ran out from the mines, and ran the way foward to the Bridge, Gandalf in the front and lead the way for the Fellowship.
The fellowship ran as fast as they could, completely ignoring the incoming goblins all around them. They ran until they could see the bridge in the far distance, but before they could continue, Goblins were gathering from every side & every nook & cranny. Suddenly, the fellowship was surrounded, right in the middle of the great halls. The goblins encircled the fellowship, and the fellowship readied their weapons, anxiously waiting for an attack. Gimli roared with fury, raising his axe into the air.
Just at that moment, a dim orange light was visible on the other side of the great halls. The goblins winced all around, stepping backwards. Then they retreated from every direction, crawling upwards the great pillars & walls. Gimli laughed heartily as if they had just won the battle. Then they heard it, a bellowing that echoed through the great halls.
The visible orange light had now turned very bright, as a pathway far away was starting to become completely lit up, almost like it was lit with fire. The bellowing became louder & turned into a long, deep & terrifying growl.
The fellowship had all turned around, staring into the orange distance, frozen into place as fear started to creep up their backs. Boromir was the first one that dared to speak. "What is this new devilry?" He asked Gandalf, as he stood by the wizard.
Gandalf had been closing his eyes to try to focus on what kind of danger was approaching. He slowly opened his eyes & breathed slowly. "A Balrog — a demon of the ancient world." He said, with worry that was very visible on his face.
The growling became even louder, almost turning into a roar. "This foe is beyond any of you." The wizard spoke with finality as he kept his gaze on the enroaching orange light that was spreading further away. "Run!" He shouted, as he quickly turned around & pushed his fellowship forward, nudging them to hurry.
The fellowship ran as quickly as they could manage, as fire was now starting to spread all around them. Quicker than they had realized, they reached the first part of the bridge of Khazad-Dûm. The problem was that it was broken into sections, and the first part was too far to jump. The members of the fellowship started to look panicked, as they didn't know what to do. Gandalf looked around, searching for any kind of heightened spot from which they could jump.
The roar became louder behind them, and Valerie turned around as she thought the beast would be on top on them. But when she turned around, she didn't see a beast, but a man. A giant knight with chrome armor. He jogged up to the back of the group, the sound of his clomping steps verberating through the great chasm of Khazad-dûm, overpowering the sound of the Balrog that was getting closer.
Valerie didn't have time to fully realize what was happening, she didn't have time to smile or react. Rash just grabbed her around her midriff & placed her on his left shoulder. Then he grabbed Frodo & Sam in each hand, and jumped hard over the chasm & onto the other part of the bridge. His boots slammed hard against the floor, then released the hobbits, who almost fell over from the sudden change of footing. He set Valerie down on the ground, staring deep into her eyes as he did. This time, Valerie had a few seconds to realize that he was alive & fully unscathed, the only sign of a battle being the black blood of the tentacled beast.
Rash then turned around, walked up to a part of the bridge that was held up by a supporting pillar, & slammed his foot hard against the ground. Then he pushed, so that the broken bridge was broken ever further. But the part that he separated acted like a pendulum, crashing toward the steep end where the rest of the fellowship stood. By doing this, the fellowship could now jump to their side of the bridge, and that they did.
"Throw Merry & Pippin first, then Gimli." The knight said with a booming voice. Boromir & Aragorn, both whom didn't fully realize that Rash was already on the other part of the bridge, acted on the order & grabbed a hobbit each, and they tossed their friends with great strength.
Rash caught them, placed them on the ground next to him then motioned for Gimli. Just at that moment, a part of the broken bridge fell off below Gimli, and he almost plummeted to the fiery depths below. But Legolas, having great reflexes, caught the dwarf by the beard.
"Not the beard!" Gimli shouted in horror & shock. However, Legolas pulled him up & got help from Aragorn as they tossed him to Rash, who caught Gimli too.
Boromir, Aragorn, Legolas & Gandalf all jumped in turn. Aragorn looked up at Rash for a moment & grabbed the giant man's arm. He nodded slightly before running off with the Hobbits, and Rash nodded back to him.
Gandalf knocked Rash on the back with his staff. "It's good to know you're alive but you need to run!" The wizard said, and Rash started to jog after the rest of the group with Gandalf right behind.
