I'm sure a lot of you have done some cool things during the summer months, and I'm curious: what's the weirdest, coolest, or otherwise memorable thing you've eaten? Whether it be when you were on a hike, at a summer camp, or camping with friends, I want to know!
Or maybe you came up with some odd food concoction while you were at home. I know how it is, it gets so hot that you don't want to shop, and so you have to make do with whatever odds and ends you've got lying around. How creative have you gotten?
Frog legs are always an easy treat to get while out camping by water, when you forget to bring food. Great even without seasoning or anything. Mmmmmm
The most memorable thing we did was make s'mores around the campfire with my kids. They sure enjoyed them and got super sticky.
I am not brave enough to try to make new things. :P
Growing up in the Southern Hemisphere, I do associate Summer with Christmas, so lots of BBQing, chocolate covered strawberries, pavlovas, etc :P I can't think of anything super crazy, but I do remember in high school one of my friend's mum had invented a beef and strawberry sandwich. I don't think it was a particularly successful combination. Another one of my friends had a sandwich that looked like half an iceberg lettuce between two slices of bread, cos she wanted to be on a diet, the height of the unappetising looking sandwich was pretty impressive.

Deep fried oreos from the yearly carnival that comes into town!
oh man, I love going to the state fair (tho our state fair is in october) and eating all the weird fried things they make especially oreos. and I would always get a few different things and split them so we could taste all the deep fried goodness. I guess the weirdest I've tried would be deep fried cola? I've seen deep fried butter (also weird) but haven't tried it (because I don't want to die).
Oh I definitely miss Summer Zeppoles in Little Italy from NY
That's a trendy food, my local supermarket actually started selling packaged zoodles (zucchini noodles) but ngl, I really enjoy having real carbs :P

Summertime always makes me think of cucumber salad! Ours has tomatoes in it along with the onion and cucumber since we grow those things in our garden. c: The dressing basically tastes just like cole slaw.
FOR THAT MATTER HOW DO WE NOT HAVE COLE SLAW? Summer makes me think of cole slaw and bbq for sure.
Summer for me was when mom had her garden, and we'd have fresh tomatoes and cucumbers for Greek salads. Well, at least I turned my portions into Greek salad when I had the things to do it since she doesn't like feta or olives.
I love fresh summer produce and wild edibles! I picked some muscadines growing near my barn yesterday.
And no summer is complete until you've consumed half your bodyweight in watermelon in one weekend.

HOT DOGS BARBECUE CHICKEN CHEESEBURGERS BAKED BEANS COLE SLAW WATERMELON AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
i live in the south, of course it's barbecue. i don't really care for it much here, but the food is soooo good.
I made sweet potato soup in the crockpot and ate it with ham. It had too much oregano.
When I think of summer, I definitely think of watermelon. <3 I guess my most notable summer food experience is when I had pure lemonade (no water or sugar added) at a fair once. It was super sour and woke me right up after walking around all day. xD
Corn on the cob and cherries. In my house summer is the only time we buy these things. Also Jersey tomatoes fresh from the garden. (Make that any produce fresh from a garden!)
Welshcakes, because I seem to go to Wales a lot during the summer! And fruit smoothies, which I love, but can't seem to stomach during winter. And blackberries, because they come into season, same goes for the green beans we grow in our garden (I loooove green beans ok) :P
Ah...well, wouldn't that be lemon juice instead? XD
...My boyfriend got me a lovely kitchen torch...and now I shamelessly use it to make S'mores in bed. XD That's about as close to adventurous as I have gotten this summer. I like the usual. Bbq (I prefer NC style), hot dogs and deliciously lovely watermelon or s'mores.
.. ...But frogs have such tiny legs....And they're so cute. XD Also, since I'm allergic to nearly everything under the sun that's natural, I rarely camp. My boyfriend has to all but drag me along on the unusual occasion when I acquiesce. I admit last time we did, we roasted some potatoes with tiny sausages and butter over the fire and it was delicious.

steeping dried lavender flowers in hot water then adding it to lemonade is sooo good...it turns the lemonade purple, too <3 yeah, lavender lemonade is AMAZING.
edit: omg, I'm trying to imagine someone using a torch IN BED to make s'mores. that's hilarious and dangerous and amazing.
It's a small hand torch, so i don't know how dangerous it is, just lazy. I often use a chopstick as my skewer to roast the marshmallow on. =oP And of course, he likes me well enough to not kick me out of bed, what with crumbly grahams and sticky marshmallows. Nothing better on a rainy day....^.^
