When I first read this, I thought 'oh! Even subscriptions will count due to them being a purchase. Awesome!' then I get charged, when the event is occurring, and I didn't get double.
Please be specific and make sure to list that in all news posts if they are, or are not, excluded. Even if it seems like common knowledge. There could be a new user for every instance that does not know of how this works.
I think news posts are pretty specific these days.
If you put every single possible detail someone might want, you risk getting news posts that are so long, so wordy, so complicated that people don't read them, or they do read them but still miss the info.
Staff are very good about answering comments in the news posts. So asking for clarification - which several people did ask about subscriptions - is usually a really good option.

I think this belongs more in site feedback, so I'm going to move it there.
On top of posted, it sounds like you're on almost the same subscription term as me - mine expires later this evening and will be re-billed. I've had two or three subscription cycles hit bonus weekends in the past, and never have gotten the bonus items OR bonus CSC based on subscription cycle - supposing you've been on active subscription for awhile now, it's likely you may have experienced the same. This one's no different, just a better bonus than usual.
I agree with you. I don't think it makes it too wordy to add some more details in the actual news posts, rather than the comments. I have some some lengthy news posts in the past... haha
But it isn't too much to go down and read the comments either. So it's iffy.
Although, I do think that people with subscriptions within this time frame should have gotten bonuses as well, since maybe that's the only CSC they can afford and how they get it. ;(

As Wise said, the subscriptions never get the bonus items or CSC so this is not any different than usual. Maybe it should just be added to the subscriptions page that subscriptions do not receive items/CSC from bonus weekends. I don't think it needs to be added to every news post if it never applies.

If you Ctrl+F "staff" in the comments you can find all of the staff's posts and any clarifications they made. I think the news posts are generally very clear, and the thing is, staff isn't necessarily going to be able to think of every question a user might have in order to clarify them in advance.
I don't think it would hurt to edit the news post later once people have asked questions, but not everyone is going to go back and check (if they don't check the comments, I wouldn't expect them to go back and check the post later tbh). So while it might be nice to see all the questions put into one place in the news post, I'm not convinced it would help very much.
(quoting your post makes more sense than pinging you, it's more of a piggy back off of your last post) :x there are people who don't read the news post once, so the odds that a good amount of people will read the news post once, then again later with no notice of it changing are slim. I wouldn't be against edits into the news post, it happens occasionally. if the issue is big enough, a second news post I think would be a better way of bringing attention to it.
for this specific news post we are talking about, I think what said is the best course of action
Ok, to address the whole 'too wordy, this is not too wordy.
'All CSC purchases will net you double. This does not include subscription purchases'. That's all it needs.
And it would clear up people asking the same question every time.
But that's my opinion. It IS a purchase,. and I cannot fathom a logical reason as to why it does not count for things like this.
I'd make a suggestion that subscriptions count for bonuses always (I could see it being a coding issue but they could always make a nice little auto-ticket for it). It only makes sense because if anything you're more dedicated to supporting the site/making purchases, vs. just being motivated by the special. Different target audiences, I know, but they could at least give you the special item at a minimum. Edited this point to clarify that it is for normal bonus weekends as well
I'm ambivalent-to-in-favor on the newspost thing. Comments don't show in the staff post feed. Sometimes, especially in big comment threads, potentially important things are rather hidden.
I'd love to see staff flagged comments show in the feed (even if it catches some of the silly stuff, not sure if they have the option to turn off the flag on the post like the forums) or at least an indicator at the top of the news comment that there are staff posts below.
I also don't see a problem with adding an edit to the bottom of news posts (it is done occasionally) with any frequently asked or important questions, especially when CSC or high-level rewards are involved. They aren't always going to think of everything at the start but that's an easy fix.
With no exclusions listed, I could see why anyone would think any purchasing they're doing would count. "Purchase" is vague if what the site really means is "you specifically spent cash on CSC, and not on subscriptions or [enter other exclusions]."
And I get the "just look for the answer, geez!" comment that always comes up with these sort of boards, but... staff often makes comments in the news that aren't always relevant (which is nice for the user interaction, so don't stop, but makes digging around for stuff more tedious), and I'm not a big fan of the "solution" being that users have to dig around for information that should have been provided. Especially when people are being asked to spend real money, I don't think it hurts to list out exclusions right in the same post where the site is making the solicitation.
Or alternatively, when you go to buy CSC, there's a little bonus message that covers the current deal. If the site doesn't intend to ever include subscriptions in these deals, then having a little message on the subscription page like, "Subscriptions are excluded from all current Cash Shop and CSC deals." would make that clear.
Well if it currently is not listed anywhere it definitely should be. I agree with twocents, it needs to be listed somewhere, otherwise we can't really blame people for not knowing. And since it's a real world currency purchase it's only fair.
I've put a lot of thought into this because while I'm normally all for them being as open as possible, there are a few considerations that I think should be taken into account.
First, in a news post as long as that one was, it actually would be pretty easy for the information, even just a few extra words, to be missed - I thought I read that post two or three times through, and yet I only discovered a few hours back that we're apparently getting forum shop points for this activity.
Second, every Cash Shop Bonus news post I can find for the past several months has specifically stated that the bonus CSC/items is for payments made via Braintree or Stripe - which actually runs our subscriptions - but more importantly, it has directly stated "Cash Shop credits" and has linked directly to the page to buy CSC, not the page for subscriptions.
So while sure, they could make news posts more clear by adding more on to it, technically they've probably already done what they consider due diligence by specifying CASH SHOP CREDITS and linking you directly to the page, rather than stating that ALL purchases would qualify. I just don't think this is really an issue on the part of the staff. [edit] Here is the specific verbage used in every previous post:
- The subscriptions are CSC purchases. I could understand your point if OP was talking about, say, a pet slot purchase, though.
I actually think the best solution would be to add a line on the subscriptions page saying that credits from subscription packages do not count toward bonus CSC events.
While I completely agree that there needs to be some kind of notation on the subscription page and/or in the news post for the sake of clarity, I think the fact the bonus didn't affect subscriptions is in line with things they have done in the past. Specifically, when they changed it so account upgrades (pet slots, name changes, GAs, etc.) no longer are discounted during sales... It follows that they also wouldn't be affected by bonuses.
