Those of you who have been missing the intense role-play of the previous rounds of WS will rejoice with chapter 5, which features the first, but not last, of the truly challenging RPs.

Here are the rules for this one:

 1. Every team member must participate (except for the Link, if you have one.)
 2. Each member must be and stay in character throughout the challenge.
 3. There are no rules to how you will accomplish the task, but each team member should get an equal chance to shine.
 4. Companions may be involved, but the character should still be the most prominent.

This RP should be posted by the captain or co-captain on the story thread.

You must solve the puzzles on the five tree locks. Each puzzle is worth 100 points, but, since you will be able to pass through after three trees untangle, you can proceed only solving three, but you will only get 300 points. The puzzles should be smailed by your captain or co-captain and only one submission per team.

Since there's an American holiday in there, the deadline for the chapter is July 8th at 11:59 pm Subeta time.

Questions and comments welcome.

Story thread up soon!!

Puzzles that are tangling my brain like tree roots! And apparently we put way too many sugar packets in our pretty muffin things and the red pandas have run away! Gotta get 'em back. Maybe more sugar to tempt them?? :P

It's not a cryptogram, sweetie.

In fact, since that's a real clue, I'd better mention that for everyone:

Number 3 is not a cryptogram.

I'm also going to answer Frieda's queries here as not to give an advantage to any team. (As I will do with any smail or comment that I feel possibly falls in that category.)

Our weasel wants to know:

Why death match since they're immortal? Can they die? (Euphemism. They will knock themselves into brief oblivion, but recover. For some reason, they get a rush--go figure.) Can the strengths of each of the three shooters be expressed as probabilities? (Sure, go ahead if you want. I never interrupt mathematicians; they bite. But it's not necessary to do so.) Are the other shooters incapable of deliberately missing a shot? (The Silver Archer never misses; the Golden Bowman hates it when he does.)

I like it when these sort of things get asked publicly, as it makes it easier, and I like it when things measure out evenly.

BTW, if you've read all this, you deserve a little bonus contest, so here's an old Sinhaen folktale from Junu. If you can answer the two questions at the end, you can gain up to 100 bonus points for your team--50 for each right answer. You will have until 1:40 pm Saturday, July 2nd--which is 24 hours. Two guesses per team to be fair, so large teams may want to check with each other unless someone really knows this answer. This is not easy.)

Quote
At a time that may have been or perhaps never was, there was a boy. He lived on the road, running errands when he could for food or coin, but going hungry more often than not. He slept most often in the tall grass, but when the snows came, he often slipped into a shed.

One particularly stormy night, he dared to climb over the wall to a the magistrate&;s house and sneak into what he thought was an unused cot. There he slept so comfortably and so warmly that he had a golden dream. However, the bed belonged to a servant, who woke the boy up with a great clamor, fearing that he had come to harm the magistrate&;s daughter, who was desperately ill.

The servant tied the boy up and dragged him before the magistrate for questioning. The boy was still smiling from what he had seen in his dream, and kept smiling even as the magistrate questioned him. Naturally, he found himself in a jail cell, which frightened him, since he was used to freedom.

As he thrashed at the straw in his cell, an animal crawled through a hole in one wall with her baby. In his panic, the boy threw his water bowl and killed the baby. The poor thing lay full length on the floor.

The mother scurried away, but returned shortly carrying a golden object in her mouth. She laid it by her baby, where it grew to match the baby, and to the boy&;s surprise, the little one returned to life. The boy shouted out and slapped the floor in wonder, but the mother and the baby both vanished, leaving the golden object behind.

Immediately, the boy pocketed the object, which now fit perfectly in his pocket, and asked to see the magistrate. Alas, he was told that the magistrate was prostrate with grief, as his beloved daughter had just died of an illness. When the boy insisted he could save her, the jailer scoffed, but as the boy kept protesting, the jailer began to fear the consequences to himself if by some chance, the boy was right.

Reluctantly, he took the boy before the magistrate who was kneeling by his daughter&;s bier. Quickly the boy broke free, ran to the girl, and pulled the object from his pocket. As he expected, the golden object grew to match the dead girl&;s body, and she returned to life. Overjoyed, the magistrate embraced the boy, and declared he had a new son.

Later, this golden object was given to the new king to use wisely for the health and balance of the nation, and became a dream for all of Sinhae.

Now tell me:

 1. What was the golden object?
 2. What was the animal who brought it to the cell?

Have fun with this!

PS Reading everything in this post carefully may be very helpful.

If number three is killing you, you may use your link, but you only have 5 link credits. They can ask me directly.

Don't have a link, bribe Junu with something you know he'd like? If you're right, you'll get the clue also. But you only have one chance.

- I was hoping to solve that in my sleep last night as that's how it usually goes. I think I need to get the "Hamilton" soundtrack out of my brain though, as that's the only thing going on up there lately :P
