I was unfairly fired back in January for something I was accused of doing but didn't. I later found out the new supervisor was cleaning staff and bringing in new people. When I was fired, I told the lady from HR I would be going to unemployment after leaving because I relied on the job for paying my bills. She said it was fine and wished me good luck. I went to unemployment and the report came back saying the firing was unjustified and I qualified. I received a few checks but they stopped because the lady from HR filed an appeal saying it was justified. I went to the appeal and the referee made her decision that day that it termination unjustified. Once again, the lady from HR filed another appeal. This time, it would be in front of a state board. The lady from HR postponed the first date for whatever reason (probably just to inconvenience me even further). Another date was set for May 25th (exactly 5 months after being fired and not receiving checks for 4 months). The appeal was very short. In fact, we sat in the lobby longer than the meeting was. I was told it would take up to 30 days for the final decision to be made. At that point, I was no longer worried because I had already graduated and was back living at home with my parents looking for a full time job.

I got the notice today. The board sided with me. I qualify to receive back pay. We'll see if I get a check on Friday and I hope they don't file another appeal. But if they do, I'll just go back to battle because now it's a matter of principle. Yes, I need the money but I'm looking for a full time job. I do hope I get a check this Friday though. I'm tired of having to count change.

So, tell me about your hellish job experiences and firings.

Wow, the fact that the court sided with you and not the fancy company with lawyers is kinda impressive. Your ex-employer must have done something REALLY bad. :|

Good luck finding a new job!

I was surprised when the first appeal was in my favor. I had a gut feeling the second appeal would go my way because it almost felt like the board was thinking, "why is our time being wasted with this?"

I was a safety sitter at a hospital and I was accused to threatening a patient, which of course I didn't. Anyone who talks with me for longer than 30 seconds know I would never do that to a person, esp an elderly person. I'm also pretty sure a bunch of my former co-workers went to unemployment as well with similar stories because I heard from a higher up who still stands by me that a whole bunch of sitters were fired for reasons that didn't make sense.

And thanks. It's a real pain, esp because I live in an area without a lot of jobs

I'm glad the board sided with you because too many people get fired for the dumbest reasons. A friend of mine recently got fired from her job seemingly out of nowhere. She was the hardest worker there, had seniority over the manager, and was up for a promotion. When she was fired, the manager strongly implied that the REAL reason was that my friend was close with some of her coworkers but not the manager in question. So basically the boss is jealous and petty.

I've never worked in a hospital like you, but I know how hard that type of job can be. I had a somewhat similar job and a horrible experience with them too. Dealing with patients is a lot harder than it sounds and people take that for granted.

I completely sympathize.

I was fired in October for holding my boss to her word when I was trying to get papers needed for a legal process and she basically withheld them. I was told I was being "threatening" for wanting her to keep her word. I've yet to find work again. x____x;

Thanks. That's ridiculous. And the worse part is it's legal because many states have the right to fire anyone law.

That's horrible. It's really shitty situation. Finding work where there is little work is the worst

Thank you! I'm really hoping I get a check tomorrow and they haven't filed another appeal. If they do, then I have to go to court. But I'm thinking positive thoughts.

That sounds completely ridiculous. Keep fighting against them til the end, I say!

I left a small casual job I had for a full-time one that seemed really good. When I got there on the first day there was a huge drama because we weren't doing what was advertised by the job ad (it said we were being customer service staff over the phone when instead we were cold calling and advertising, and the role was going to last 3half the time that the job ad said it would), and a lot of people left right then. I tried to tolerate it but after a few weeks I quit because of how much abuse I got from customers.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this -- but hopefully the end is near!

I left my previous job back in April due to working almost an entire month without a break (not like 8+ hour days, but enough to be annoyed). You would think that a job being a dog walker would be awesome and drama-free -- not with this boss. She was one of those workaholic people that thought that everyone needed to be like her, and if you weren't well... it would explain why she goes through employees like no one I've ever seen. I was beginning to really resent her, the dogs and my job and I just needed to not do it anymore. We left amicably and hadn't really spoken much since. Until she messaged me recently on Facebook saying that I lied to her about not wanting to walk dogs anymore (which I didn't), and that if I could 'explain why I left' it would really help her professionally, and I was like, 'uh, no.' It's not my job to tell you what you've done wrong (which she would have denied), and I don't understand why she waited almost three months later to get pissed about it? She was also just shady in general and said yes to everyone and everything and then complained about how much she worked. She also took off on a vacation for a week and didn't tell our clients aside from an 'out of office' email when they tried to contact her. She also thought that screaming at the dogs and hitting them on the nose was the way to discipline them...

Most people don't realize that your previous employer has to pay part of your unemployment, so I can understand (as a business owner), that they would do an appeal. I mean, why pay for someone you decided not to keep on? But, if they told you to go to unemployment, then they are just jerks. What they should have done, is give you a severance package. Blech.

I can't stand people who are workaholics, and complain about how much work they do. Either you work a lot and enjoy what you do to yourself, or shut up, I say. Sounds like you did a good thing in dropping that woman as an employer. Also, people who are workaholics, should not own pets they don't have time for.

About a year ago, I left my stable job of three years to buy a wedding venue. My boss, a wedding planner, was thrilled for me, or so I thought. I learned everything I know about the wedding industry because of her, and I saved almost all my money in those years. I trained my best friend for my position the last two months, staying there longer than I had projected by a month, to make sure he was up to the challenge and that I left her with someone as capable as myself.

Not even two weeks of having been gone, my bff called me and told me that she had spoken all this crap about me, that I was irresponsible, that I was lazy... And then asked him, knowing he -is- my best friend, to not tell me (yeah right).

Some people should not be bosses.

I completely agree, some people like to think they have good leadership skills and are a boss-ass bitch and it's like no. Thankfully this girl doesn't actually own any pets, but she had them in her house enough for it to technically count (which was yet another thing she complained about, yet always posted on FB how you'll 'never hear any complaints from her' and I was like, 'pffffffftttt, okay then').

And good on your bff for telling you because that is just garbage. I love when people think they can talk shit about you to a close friend and think they won't say anything, haha!

Thank you. I hope so too

Trust me, I know all about that. My first job out of high school was at a doggie daycare. All the employees were girls/women. It got brutal there. I was one of the most senior there after three years and the owner cut me down to once a week so she wouldn't have to pay me any more than that. I got a new job and quit the daycare but the new job didn't work out and I was out of work for a long time.

I would just block her and that way she can't reach out to you anymore. She sounds crazy and toxic. My boss at the daycare just didn't care and made her assistant mangers do everything for her. The one had just left for the day after working 8 hours. The other came in but had a really bad stomach bug and she tried to tough it out but just couldn't (turns out the owner wouldn't let her call out). She she let the one go home and called the other one back in just as she walked in the front door, 30 minutes away. The owner could have handled everything for the following 4 and half hours but didn't want to.

I understand they don't think they should have to pay me because they fired me and I wouldn't have gone to unemployment if I had actually done what they accused me of. But they have been told three times the firing was unjust. And the HR lady wished me luck with them. I would have taken a severance package and they never would have heard from me again

Yeah, I both deleted and blocked her, and my old workplace's FB page, don't need to deal with that nonsense. Interestingly enough, I also have worked at a dog daycare, and lo and behold it was almost the same thing. Due to a change in manager we lost two girls, and the only reason I stayed also is because the other girl who was staying and I got along so well (her reason for staying was the same as mine, haha!)

I couldn't take a sick day at that place without being called in. I worked there for a year and called in... maaaaaybe twice, and both times were like, 'uh, can you come in?' and I was like, 'yeah, sure... if you want me throwing up all over the desk, yeah.' Yet when anyone else was sick we just dealt with it, and rarely had issues.

That's good. There's no reason for her to contact you 3 months later then accuse you of lying. I was lucky because I didn't see that boss again until several months later at a bar and she asked when we were going clubbing (I had turned 21 that past summer). I looked at her and said, "if I ever have money again, I'll see about it".

I couldn't take a sick day either. I had a really bad stomach bug one day and still had to go in. I was throwing up all over the playroom and she finally got the hint and sent me home. Then a few weeks later, I came down with bacterial arthritis in all my joints and she wouldn't let me take off. I could barely walk.

I got several bugs working at the hospital and they only gave sitters 2 sick days a year. I almost got fired because I had this stomach bug from hell, which I call the plague and I got a warning for calling out that week. I could barely get out of bed to go to the bathroom, I was that sick.
