o1. What is a CW? CW stands for ‘Custom Wearable’, which is user-made art that can be submitted onsite. You can easily tell when an item is a CW by the star mark located on the top right!
vs.
Every CW goes through the usual acceptance/denial process, which you can read more about via the Official Custom Wearable FAQ here.
o2. How much will it cost to get a CW onsite? As of 2013, submission costs have been broken down in categories. As an example, a ring will cost you 1,000csc to submit whereas a body modification item such as horns will cost 2,500csc. Specific breakdown can be found on the Official Custom Wearable FAQ here.
Take note that this method emulates the ‘traditional’ slotting method. You may also choose to submit direct-to-shop for a lower submission fee but with only 1 on-hand copy. If you use the traditional slotting method, remember that you will always get 5 copies off the final submission price.
Example: 1,500csc to submit a pair of glasses = 5 copies @ 350csc each 2,000csc to submit a makeup = 5 copies @ 400csc each 2,500csc to submit a wig = 5 copies @ 500csc each
Here is a scenario -- A wig is submitted in both methods.
[li] a) I pay 2,500csc and submit it for approval. Once it has been approved, 5 copies of the wig will appear in my inventory. I am now free to sell the 5 copies for whichever amount I want.
i. Batch 1: Selling 4 copies x 700csc = 2,800csc –-- 300csc profit for the first batch since I am keeping the 5th copy for myself
ii. Batch 2 and onwards: Selling 5 copies x 700csc = 3,500csc –-- 1,000csc profit for the second and subsequent batches.
[li] b) I pay 1,600csc to submit it for approval. Once it has been approved, only 1 copy of the wig will appear in my inventory. I am now free to release more copies via my cw shop for whichever amount I want. The profit I get is the difference between the base pricing and the price I tag it for.
i. Because the wig’s base cost is 500csc per copy, I may price it at a minimum of 600csc/piece. 5 copies sold @ 600csc each = 500csc profit (100csc per copy sold) [small]Note: at this rate, I will not have covered the initial submission fee of 1,600csc[/small]
ii. 5 copies sold @ 700csc each = 1,000csc profit (200csc per copy sold) [small]Note: I’ve covered my initial submission fee of 1,600csc and made 400csc profit[/small]
Note that in both cases, if you have commissioned an artist and unless otherwise specified, you must pay for their 'artist slot', which is an additional base-price copy (in this case, an extra 500csc to purchase and send the copy of the wig to the artist)
Both cases also do not take account of the initial commision/design price.
You could also use the direct-to-shop if you only want a copy for yourself and/or a few friends (totalizing less than 10 copies).
o4. How do I set up my own CW shop? Your CW shop must be located on the main custom clothing section here. Note that you may only create one thread per user: in other words, you must release all and every items on the same thread, they may not be spread onto different ones.
Useful things to include in your first few posts include (but are not limited to): name of your thread, welcome text, rules, link to your ping group (if you have one!) etc. Here is a basic template that you may use to set up your shop. You can of course change anything so that it fits your needs.

o5. How do I create my own ping group? You can create your own ping group here!
o6. Why should I create my own ping group? Ping groups are useful if you wish to give dibs to certain users before others. For example, if your ping group has 100 users and customwear has 600 users, your ping group would have first dibs on slotting if they are pinged first.
You can create different ping groups such as for friends (which typically have a handful of users are invited to join only) and a general, public ping group that anyone can join.
o7. How can I advertise my CWs? There are various ping groups you can join to advertise CWs. Most of them have specific rules: make sure to read them before pinging!
Here are a few of them --
customwear | may be pinged once every 2 weeks and for new items 1st batch | may be pinged when attempting to fill your first batch Tribute items | may be pinged if your CW is a tribute cwfill | may be pinged if you are only missing 1-2 slots to fill your batch
o8. How do I set up my own CW commission and/or design shop?
Your CW Commission/Design shop must be located on the commission subsection of custom clothings here. Same as the above, you may only create one thread per user: whether it is for commissions or designs, both must remain on the same thread.
Useful things to include in your first few posts include (but are not limited to): name of your thread, welcome text, rules, pricing categories, methodology, list of past accepted items etc.
Here is a basic template that you may use to set up your shop. You can of course change anything so that it fits your needs.
Examples of rules and shop settings can be found on various artists’ threads right here if you need inspiration!

. pricing chart small items (simple jewelry, makeup etc.) --- $__ or _CSC medium items (shirts, skirts, complex jewelry etc.) --- $ or _CSC large items (fullbody clothing, wigs, backgrounds etc.) --- $ or ___CSC
recolors --- $__ or ___CSC
. examples of cws [item=] [item=] [item=] [item=] [item=] Reminder: You must offer atleast one sp/csc option. You may not exclusively offer USD slots as it is against subeta’s rules to do so.
Once the item is approved, you will normally receive your artist’s copy of the item for free, unless otherwise specified.
1o. What is a CW design? A CW design is the process in which you draw your own idea and then put it up for sale when it is completed. The purchaser of the design will not be able to guide you through changes he may ask since he will only get a ‘final product’. Minor changes are up to your discretion.
Once the item is approved, you will normally receive your artist’s copy of the item for free, unless otherwise specified.
11. So what is the difference between a CW commission and a CW design? The difference between a commission and a design is that if someone ‘hires/commissions’ you to draw something, you’re near certain of getting paid, provided that the commissioner is satisfied of the result.
A design is something you create yourself – it does not necessarily mean someone will purchase it. If it is the case, you will have the choice to lower the price, submit/release yourself or shelve it until later.
12. Are there any tutorials on how to draw CWs? As of now, there are no tutorials available. We are working on providing some video tuttorials on lineart and shading!
13. I need help with my cw and/or it’s been denied. Where should I go? There is a thread located here that was specifically created to help users with cw-related questions or denials.
It is run entirely by users / artists and aims to help people get their items onsite.
Have I missed a question? Please comment me and I'll add it here! n_n Still confused? Post below and I will try my best to answer clearly!
Coming up:
Heyyyyyyy friends, just wrote up this amazing introductory series on CWs! If you or any friends you know (newbies or otherwise) are ever wondering how the basics of CWs, please direct them here. It's so informative! CWs can be really intimidating to get into because there's just so much going on, so much to learn, but this is good start.
Please share! :)
Thank you both so much for making this, it's very useful!!! :D
oh this is awesome!! thanks for making this!
Wow, this filled a lot of the holes in for me because honestly I didn't know how I'd go about releasing a CW on my own. Haha. OTL Thank you so much for the guide.
Very helpful you two. This would have come in so handy when I started. I just pestered . And when it came time to submit (which is kinda confusing first time) who did my very first commission walked me thru the steps as I went thru a live stream.
if there is anything I haven't covered please let me know dear! n_n
ohhh I wonder if making a video walkthrough of the submission process would be better than 35 screeenshots ;o I'm a bit hesistant because of my broken english and appearant oh-so canadian accent but I'll look into this matter!
Your guide covered everything for me. I also appreciated the thread for denials as well, that's super helpful.
Maybe :) I'm sure broken English isn't to bad. I know it was very helpful for me to have Violin right there helping so I had a visual of what I was suppose to be doing.
Thanks for this guide! :) It was very helpful. :D
ooooh...super helpful. Subscribed so I can easily find this and direct people to it! I get asked a lot about things related to buying/selling/releasing cws and I always end up needing to make screenshots on the fly.
One suggestion if that's okay? In the CW Shop bit you have, make sure you differentiate between a Forum Shop that advertises new CWs and takes slots and the on-site CW shop that every user has. I'm not sure if anyone has a guide for the site CW Shops either, but if there is one, linking to it would be helpful (I answer /a lot/ of questions about how putting CWs in shops works, how to set up passwords and invites, how to purchase items that are locked, etc).
Thanks for the ping!
hey! this looks super great and woulda made me get into releasing way earlier if it'd existed o:
also! i can probably make a video (or two - one direct to shop + one with batches?) if you'd like, i looked up/tested making/uploading screen videos with my computer just now and it's super easy, and since i have a thing to submit directly and will soon have one with batches, they could be used as examples. i'd just need to know what particularly you + tartelette + anyone else with ideas wants included in it so i don't accidentally leave something out or talk about something really obvious for hours. cx

Thank you guys, but Cathii is the mastermind here! I'm just the lowly post-reserving minion. ;P
It is heartening to see how many people appreciate this post, though! Hopefully some new blood will be encouraged to join the CW market!!
good point! I hadn't thought about it but I'll add links to show what a subeta cw shop is versus user-made cw thread n_n
I'd ideally like to create voice-over video guide on how to submit an item both ways, how to manage the cw shop etc!
aw thank you! I'm still writting out all the things that need to be covered! I might give it a try myself if Im bored (and/or tipsy, who knows LOL) but if I totally fail, it's super nice of you to offer to help! ❤️
