I'm not sure if this is normal... but I was playing with exec (my cadogre) earlier today cuz his happiness was down. I used a basketball and jump ropes (can't remember which color) and the thing is, each time I played with him, 1) he would tell me how boring it was and 2) the item would not break.
I played with him several times until his happiness was 10/10 but even then the items didn't break and he kept telling me the exact same thing - that the toy was boring.
I just bought a new toy for him and got the same thing. exec says: Err... that was SO boring! And the toy remains in my inventory.
It's great that I can raise his happiness without losing any toy items. But I'm a little worried about my pet not actually liking his toys? Is he okay?
Sorry if this is a already answered somewhere, I'm still rather new to Subeta and couldn't find anything on it.

I can't speak to why the items aren't vanishing if your pet is below 10/10 happiness, but pets will always refuse to play more (and say they hate the toy) if they're at full happiness.
Oh wow... I think I know why I got confused!
I had put him in the resort shortly before so he'd be good for battle quests. But after I put him in the resort, I found he was still unable to battle. So I checked his status and saw hunger and happiness were both down.
But maybe by the time I went to play with him, the resort caught up and his happiness was already full. It's still odd because when I checked again, I'm certain his hunger wasn't 10/10...
Ahh sorry for my confusion! But thanks for the reply, now I know :)

Ah, that's probably it, then. Glad things turned out okay!
Also pets who have a minion will rarely ever become unhappy.
I don't think the resort actually keeps pets at 10/10 hunger and happiness. I think it drops still, and the resort just fills it back up periodically.
Huh, that's interesting. I put another pet of mine in the resort briefly as an experiment, it made her happiness 10/10 but her hunger stayed at 0/10. I fed her a bit and got it up to 5/10. So maybe the resort feeds periodically, but keeps happy all the time?
Also I just discovered you can check pets into Rathskeller Inn as well. I wonder how that's different from the resort. They cost exactly the same, which is odd since you'd think the inn would be cheaper as it seems more uhh... rat-infested.

Like said, a minion will keep your pet's happiness at 10/10 too. I honestly don't pay that much attention, I just know that once in awhile if I go to my Pets page I'll see some of them lower than 10/10
The inn lets you check pets in for a week longer than the resort, but it doesn't have the GA feature to check all your pets in at once, but otherwise they're the same. Checking all pets in at once is actually the only reason I switched to using the resort haha
