Most of my last couple created pets have been Chinese names.

and this name happened to be free.

Nuwa

Nuwa- probably won't know her unless you're familiar with Chinese mythology prior to Buddhism but she's a snake creation goddess. She created humanity out of clay and saved the heavens from destruction with her husband( and yes, actual brother)...

She's part of the pantheon of gods/goddesses that existed in Chinese mythology prior to Buddhism taking over as the primary religion.

When my parents told me bedtime stories, they'd tell me about Nuwa a lot! She's one of my favorites. It's pretty cool that you named a pet after her.

one of the series of books that my dad bought when I was a kid was this anthology of Chinese stories/fairytales during one of his trips to China.

I couldn't read Chinese, still can't read most Chinese characters so I was never able to read them, but I remember him doing the same thing and reading them to me as a kid though. There was a bunch of different stories in there, but I remember a couple of them being about the Jade emperor and his court and a bunch of stuff about different stories in Chinese mythology.

That's really cute. We used to check out books from a local Chinese library and my dad would help us read them - I can't read characters anymore, so I feel that haha. Are you Chinese?

We also had a book of myths (in English) from everywhere around the world, so I read that a lot as a kid. Mythology is cool stuff.

Yep, my parents are originally from Taiwan. I was born and have lived in the states my entire life though. I can read some Chinese( lived in Taiwan after I graduated from bachelors for a year and a half to study mandarin) but only at a 3rd-4th grade level though. I speak better than I write.
