For those leaving the site, or unhappy with a pet in general, it would be nice to be able to retire/delete our pets. The names would be open to other players, of course, but they'd have a new birth date and new owners. No connection to previous accounts.
Second this! Really dislike seeing pets with _numbers ): Makes me sad Plus it might help with our lag problem since there's so many pets D:
There are an increasing number of people who would be really happy to take old IDs and change the pet's name if the user doesn't want them anymore.
i sort of agree with the idea on the one hand (i made pets for two of my OCs a while back, using their full names, but then changed my mind about it and put them in the pound even though i would rather not have because it's kind of weird that now people have pets with my OCs' full names, i would have preferred to just be able to delete them) but on the other hand it's true that some people are interested in specific pets for their IDs and it would be a shame for someone to delete a pet with an ID someone might REALLY REALLY want without asking if anyone wanted it (though i personally don't care at all about IDs) and then that specific number is gone forever, so... idk.
of course, if something like this were to be put in place, there would have to be like a million massive warnings on the page, your pet's name and image super visible right at the top and text everywhere screaming "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DELETE THIS EXACT PET FROM EXISTENCE BC IF U DO ITS GONE FOREVER SORRY NO TAKE BACKS JUST PLZ DOUBLE TRIPLE CHECK THAT THIS IS THE RIGHT ONE."
A lot of people look for specific dates too. I think some pets do eventually get deleted from the system but... tbh there's not many reasons to delete them. There's very few pets in the pound, most pets put in the AC forum get snatched up really quick.
I feel like if this were implemented I'd rather see a surrender program-- you surrender owning the pet so it's no longer yours, but it doesn't actually get deleted for say, three months, so someone can pick up the date or ID if they want. Or just let people choose. When they make a pet with an open name that was previously owned they can choose whether they want to keep a previous ID/birthdate. This might be counter to what you want to suggest but for a petsite like Subeta I personally don't see the benefit of deleting pets.
No to this. I've stalked the pound for days and finally set up a topic searching for a pet with a specific date to adopt. It's hard enough finding the right one when there are people looking to rehome their pets. I hate to think how difficult it would be if people desperate for space could just delete their unwanted pets instead of looking for people who would take them. This would suck for people looking for birth dates and IDs.
And what would this do for IDs? If an older ID is deleted, would a newly created pet fill the gap? Or would that ID never be reused?
INITIALLY i was p neutral on this topic but somEBODY???? planted over a hundred pets with ridiculous names in the AC. i dont have slots to confirm this, but how high are the odds of them having similar/same birthdays/ids???
i'm all for deleting, unless someone is willing to drop 50k csc on name changers for all of them.
yooooooo i was wrong guyyyss, they do have massively different id numbers and birth dates. while i still feel irked about the hundreds of odd names, at least the varying birthdays alone are good for nabbing. :T

I would love that, but only if there's like a fee of 1M sP because otherwise people could just delete all good pets that could be found in the adoption center. I think 1M is fair enough to get rid of that one pet that bothers someone, but high enough to avoid deleting sprees.
And to have it make sense with the lore of Subeta, you could just "set your pets free in the wilderness", oppose to adopt r us. c:
If you see a pet in the pound with the format name_### it's very likely they come with a free name change because they got cleared! Just fyi. ^_^
Doesn't the pound get cleared out every now and then, and the pets deleted?
That massive pet dump was done by staff! https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/856483/Sudden-massive-amount-of-pets-in-shelter
As for the suggestion... Ehhh, I can see the reason behind it and I'd probably use it under certain circumstances (I'm superweird when it comes to pets, don't mind me), but I don't think it's really a high-priority thing? You could just as well adopt the pet out, or dump it in the pound. Nothing on the pet's profile will link you as the previous owner unless you slap a link in yourself.
Besides, as said, the pound does get cleared every so often.
it used to, but last summer/fall there was a big effort to get most/all of the pets in the pound adopted and since then the number of pets in there was hovering around 20 at a time... until earlier today, when a bunch of 'cleared' pets (pets that had inappropriate names or whatever other reasons staff might have had) were released into the pound so people can snag their IDs/birthdays if they want.
[edit] see, when i abandoned those two pets i wanted to get rid of, i was kind of banking on the prospect that they would languish unwanted (because their names were so specific) in the incredibly full pound until its next clearing, at which point they would vanish from existence and everything would be fine. about a week later, staff announced the aforementioned effort to get all the pets in there adopted, which included giving some of the 'less desirable' pets more interesting color/species combos. unfortunately it hit those two pets of mine (i believe they got turned reborn and graveyard) and were snapped up not long after. the whole thing was... exactly the opposite of what i was hoping to happen. if i could have just deleted the pets, i would have been much happier.
I can understand that. D: Or if a pet you love, but decided to disown because you lost your mojo for it gets snapped up by someone who doesn't do anything with their pets, or abandons their account and you regret disowning the pet in the first place.
Not even making an adoption topic guarantees that whoever applies for your pet is going to keep it and do what they promised to do in the app (I've had experiences with this), but it's just how it is.
If you abandon a pet, you give up any ownership over it and you have no say in what the new owner does with it. It's completely out of your hands once you let the pet go. The same goes for renaming and I feel the same would go for deleting a pet. If you're really attached to a name, you'd still feel bad if it went to someone who just picked it up for the sake of it.
yiiikeees! though thank you for letting me know, i feel a lot better knowing it was the staff's doing c:

It's not in Subeta's interest to cater to people who quit. Why should we submit to the will of someone who liked it so little here who wants to make a pet die and be incorrigible for anyone? All pets are saveable, unlike RL and no pets die unlike RL and this is part of what makes it fun here.
If you wanna stay here but you just can't stand someone getting your utterly rejected pet under any circumstance? Egads, what do you do to someone who's dating your RL ex?
This seems fundamentally selfish mean and antipet. No support.
