Hi all! Please use this thread to discuss your strategies for the challenge located at this thread: Group Activity - Writing Challenge - Groupings

Hey folks!

I won't ping again since Mary already pinged all of you fine folks, but I just wanted to say I'm excited to see what you folks come up with! For anyone interested, feel free to submit any sort of "group name" for any sort of magical creatures. Please ping me when you post and I can keep track of all of the suggested names here!

If we generate duplicate names for some animals (ie. if there is more than 1 name suggestion for a group of Nifflers, for example), we can hold a poll a few days before the deadline (say, Friday, May 6th, closing on Sunday, May 8th before submission for Monday, if that works for everyone) to choose between the duplicates. If we generate a list of more than 10 creatures, as well, we can host a similar poll.

So go for it, folks! I can't wait to hear some suggestions. I'll be sure to think on some, too!

augury - maybe cloud or storm (weather birds) bowtruckle - faggot (bundle of sticks), has fallen out of favor and now they're called something else. Maybe a grove? doxies - frustration, nuisance bundimum - hazard, rot (moldy infestation)

puffskeins already have a group noun in canon -- a poffle.

I love all of what you guys have come up with! The priherclan of chimaera is pure genius! I like the use of faggot for bowtruckle, but I feel like because of the unfortunately extremely common misconception of what the word really means, we should probably stick to grove. It frustrates me how people twist things and desecrate the language.

Actually, I lampshaded that -- it's why it fell out of favor in usage, but I can see the reasoning of not touching on it at all. =/ would hope people could see past that to the love of language beneath, but UGH

Hey folks! I'm SO sorry I didn't post the poll sooner - the weather here has been insane lately and I got terribly heat sick last night. I'm only just starting to feel more normal (and I can actually read now that the dizziness has receded) and so I'm now posting the poll. Please get your votes in ASAP! This poll closes at 11:59pm Sunday, May 8th! I will post the final choices on Monday, May 9th.

Please remember to choose only 10 of your favorites (you can choose fewer if you really can't choose that many) and please do not choose more than one option per creature (ie. you must pick which of the doxy group names you like better if you want to choose doxy as a group name).

If you're re-pinging a group/person in a post you're editing, you have to edit out the first ping and then edit a ping in again to make it actually send a ping. Or, just double-post if you're able to!
