I'm building a world for people to play in. I need people to ask me questions to help the intellectual process, since I'm finding it hard to jump start on my own. I'm doing this almost completely from scratch, and I'd like for it to be a large project. The more people I have to help, the better.
I need to work on the following: The actual world itself (continents, cities, countries, etc), The religion/creation myths/etc, the races that live within the world, and conflicts.
Once this is done, I plan on running games and roleplays within the world, a la D&D. I've yet to decide on whether or not I wanna use an actual rule system.
Definitely fantasy! Though I'm not sure how much magic I want in it. I'm debating between three options: 1) magic is reserved for gods and deities and those who acquire worship 2) magic is rare and only found in certain individuals, or 3) magic is for everyone to learn, though some are better at it than others. I want there to be as little electricity/modern technology as possible, but still have the world function.
I think options 1 and 2 sound really unique, especially option 1. Though option 3 has the most flexibility in my opinion. 😄
So, does each race/country in this world have a major god (i.e. in the west they have a Zeus and in the east they have an Amaterasu, or merfolk have a Poseidon and elves have an Artemis) or does the entire world share the same gods? Also, what kind of races did you plan to have inhabit this world?
They all share gods, since the gods have actually fallen into the mortal realm and live among them. However, some have their own deities they worship. For example, one of the races I have is the adlet, born of a woman and dog who'd slept together (inuit mythology). so that species worships the woman and dog as their holy mother of sorts.
As for races, so far I only have four. Adlets, Humans, Elves, and Half Elves. I'm toying with the idea of a bird people of sorts who have "harpy" used as a slur against them. I'd like to have at least six or seven at least.
Wow, the Adlets sound really different (in a good way). I have to say I'm rather curious to how the races are spread out. I'd imagine they'd be found in many different countries but where'd they originate from? Also, What are the races way of life? Are any of them isolated from the rest of the world or travelling merchants?
