One of my cats won't live past this week and I was wondering if we could all share some cute pet stories. Doesn't have to be limited to cats.
I recent got four pet mice and have named them all after some great female singers (Beyoncé, Gaga, Adele, and Madonna). Whenever one does something a little ridiculous or funny, we shout out, "Beyoncé!" since there's no way to tell them apart (all albino). The day I got them, I was watching them run on their wheel. One was running and two were hanging on for dear life, just going around and around. It was super funny and really cute and Beyoncé would just keep on running.
What are your favorite pet memories?
I have tons of pet memories, but my favourite one in particular was a brown and white hamster named Buddy (ironically, that's the name of my adopted love bird). Buddy was given to me as a house warming gift and I quickly became attached to him. He liked to sleep in my bed, by my feet (I always wore socks to bed a few years back). Buddy would always curl up and sleep in a ball. He chewed up my bed sheets and would tug at my socks for bedding. One time, he even peed in my bed, which really pissed (excuse the pun) me off because they were clean sheets that I just changed that day. Buddy passed away at 2.4 months old. He died on my chest while I was singing to him.
I've had countless hamsters since (I've had 6 who've passed and two current dwarfs) No one has been like Buddy and slept in my bed.
When I was around eight years old I had a hamster. I'd let her run around in a hamster ball inside the house, and I'd put her in a small glass carrier and take her for walks outside. Then I got a second hamster. He wasn't as interactive as she was and I usually kept them separate for obvious reasons.
Then one day I came home from school and they were gone. Their tank and cage plus all of their supplies were not in my room anymore. I asked my mother where they were and she said she took them to the SPCA because I had allergies. I was allergic to the cat actually... but whatever. After being distraught and crying a lot and begging my mom to get them back, I eventually gave up.
In Middle School there was an awesome cat I liked on my grandparent's farm. He was young and kind of a brat, but he enjoyed playing hide and go seek, and he would come if I called him even if he was in the neighbour's yard or somewhere in the back field. I'd follow him around the farm sometimes, and he usually humoured me and didn't go places I couldn't. He died when he was a year and a half. I'm not sure if the mama cat was too old or if there was some inbreeding or maybe both, but him and his sister both had medical issues.
I almost died when I read about your hamsters. I love hamsters so much. I'm actually allergic to them, but I don't care. I keep bringing one home to replace the last one I had. Also, my bird is friends with the hamsters.
My ex's sister had to put down her very, very sick 16-year-old cat. To replace said cat she adopted a puppy. A border collie black lab mix, meaning a lot of energy and she adores everybody. However the other cat did not adore her back, and she seems to think annoying the crud out of the cat is the best thing ever. When the sister first got her she was about the same size as the cat (he's kind of large for a housecat) and at one point she was bothering him so he rolled on his back and put all his pointy ends up, the puppy decides she's going to stand over him and wrestle with him, so the cat hooks his front legs under hers, flips himself over, and throws her down the stairs. It was only three stairs down to the back door and she was fine, but it was hilarious. I wish I'd gotten it on video I could probably have gone on T.V. and won $1000.
Also one time I was watching T.V. with my ex in the living room and same dog, about the same age, comes tearing down the stairs, leaps over me like a gazelle, scrambles behind my ex and curls into a ball between him and the couch. She'd peed all over the sister's bed (because the sister never bothered to train her properly) and their mum had just caught her. Now she's looking at us like "hide me!" while the mum and the sister are freaking out upstairs.
Oh, and if she decides she loves you she backs into your legs and hits you repeatedly with her butt until you play with her.

I have two cats, Holly and Emma, two hermit crabs who don't really have names, a red cap oranda goldfish named Zombie, and a combtail betta named Drogo.
Holly is probably the smartest of my kids, she's 7? 8? She definitely knows how to control humans and make us do what she wants, lol. She even gets my dad to move from his chair to the couch so she can sleep in his chair. She cries and paws at all of us for attention. She likes to lay on the back of my couch, directly behind my head, lay all her paws on my shoulders, and put her tail around my neck. That usually happens when I'm gaming, and I usually yell at some point when I'm gaming, and when she's there, I usually get claws in the neck, lol. I have little pointy scars all over my neck. They're not really that visible and I don't really care because she's adorable and I love her.
Emma is my younger cat and is the most adorable thing. She follows me around the house, pouts when I leave for work, sleeps with me right by my face every night, and greets me when I come home from work. I adopted her when she was very young, so I think she thinks I'm actually her mother. I love the little bugger, crazy as she is.
My hermit crabs are nuts, both of them. Their tank will be totally pristine, all the plants in place and their bowls full, and then I'll go in there in the morning and it looks like they had a fucking rave in there at night. The sand's all over, the plants are trashed, the bowls are knocked over, their coconut hut is upside down. I don't know what the hell they do at night, lol.
My fish, both the goldfish and the betta, both recognize me. They'll both come to the front of their tanks and swim back and forth, looking like they're staring at me. Not sure if they can see out or not, but it's pretty funny.
i'm sorry to hear about your cat ):
my roommate's boyfriend has a dog named iggy pup (we call him iggy for short) and we all love him so much, he's the best. he's some kind of malamute mix and has really fluffy fur around his ears that sticks up in the most adorable way.
Right now, one of my hermit crabs is having funsies wrecking his tank. He sounds exactly like the parakeet I used to have, the sounds he's making scraping against the glass. It's kind of creepy, lol. I feel like I have a ghost bird behind me, but no, it's just my mentally disturbed crustacean.
