Ever the loyal, patient companion, the kumos dates back far in Subeta's past - although there does not seem to be a lot of evolution records for it! Legend has it that the very first kumos is in fact The Wizard's own companion kumos, Luna; she was created from the night sky, and the Wizard marked her with the symbol of the crescent moon to symbolize the bond her species now shares with their owners. This has earned Luna the affectionate title of "Mother", as she is long-believed to be the immortal mother of all kumos. So ever since the Sand Spirits came out, I have had an odd theory about how Kumos came to be. Clearly the story of Luna ties into it, and the fact the Sand Spirits look so very much like wilder versions of Kumos, I wondered if there was a possibility of them somehow being related.

Theory : Maybe in his younger days, Allard (Thanks to Annet for finding the Old Wiz' name for me) came across a dying sand spirit. In exchange for something of his, the sand spirit gave it's magic to Allard, rendering it into Luna, a semi-magic-less, more domesticated form of the Kumos (possibly a name the Sand Spirits call themselves in their language), from which, by her breeding with some other creature, made the kumos species. This can also be done in the reverse which leads to-

Theory : In his younger days, Allard got lost in the vast desert of the sacred lands. Near death, a sand spirit finds him and has compassion for him, and gives him her magic and shares her life force. This forces her body to remain in one form now, and her more wild look taking on a more domesticated one, becoming Luna, forever tied to Allard as he is to her. And again, her breeding with some other creature resulted in the kumos species.

Theory : Allard, while attempting to become a great wizard, began to dabble and study the magics of the sand spirits, as they are Saherimos' gods, along with Shinwa (who they think might be a sand spirit herself). He began to wonder how they came into existence, and began to wonder if they were some kind of magical golems. Thus, he set out to make a magical golem based off the Sand Spirits, and created Luna. Luna was not a true Sand Spirit, so she did not have the abilities of changing back and forth, but by some way was able to breed and created the kumos species.

Theory : This one is alittle weird, but just go with me. Allard in his younger days becomes enamored/intrigued with a young woman he sees at night, and seeks her out. She teaches him some magic and they become friends/lovers. But soon Allard finds out her secret, she is actually a sand spirit, and because he finds out, she is now forced into her canine form, unable to ever transform to her humanoid form again. Still loving one another (either platonically or romantically) they chose to stay together. (I'm thinking more platonic though personally because some weird questions come up if we went romantically.)

Theory : Another weird one, connected somewhat to the first. Allard falls for sand spirit, but this time he gets her pregnant. He never sees his lover during the day, but she spends her nights with him. Then the baby is coming and the Sand spirit begs for Allard not to come in to the room while she is having the child. Well, sun rises and Allard is beside himself and finally can't stand it and takes a peek, and sees his lover turned into her canine form, having birthed Luna as a puppy and having to wait for the night before she can apply the magic to Luna to make her a shape shifter. However the mother sees Allard peeking, flips out and instantly has to leave because rules and stuff. This leaves Allard with only Luna, who is now stuck forever in her canine form, to stay by her father's side. And then became the mother of all kumos.

Again, these are just theories and stuff, but hey, if the creator of the sand spirits wants to use one of the ideas, all power to them. Also you get a cookie if you can guess where some of these theory stories originated from :D

I think all theory's could be possible, but theory 2, 4 and 5 are my favorites. I can't chose one.

Hehe, atleast the human form, still kinda hard for me to change to my canine form. These robes were the best I could come up with, it's hard getting a hold of pieces of the night sky to make cloth from.

Did you figure out where some of the theories' stories originated from? I can say 3 of them come from legends and fairytales, the other 2 are kinda built off another story that's a movie and a book.

I figure out some sources now and then, but honestly I got the most inspiration from scientific facts and documentary's. At the current days I usually read informative books and science, but years ago I read also legends and fairy tales too. The movies I watch are various sorts of documentary, informative programs about astronomy and nature documentary's. For example some nature documentary's produced by John Downer: Link 1 link 2 link 3 link 4 link 5 link 6 or this or this or several social subjects. (Too many to show).

Then I try to apply that knowledge in certain sources of Subeta. Sometimes it's easy to combine and sometimes it is a tuft challenge to mix something fairy-like on Subeta with something practical science.

They should hire you to be a lore writer. :P I reckon 4 and 5 as being based on shapeshifter myths, creatures such as the selkie, perhaps.

laughs Hi Cli, it would be fun, doubt they would do it though. You're close. The 4 and 5 are close to selkies, but not exactly. If either of you have taken part of a particular brand of coffee, you've seen this fairytale character. It's a mixture of their story.

Nah, they're not a secret, it's more I want people to try to guess. 1 and 2 are a pretty popular movie, and was made by a well known film group. The third is probably the easiest because of a particular word I used. 4 and 5 are again, based off a type of shapeshifter story that's character is well known to the public.

I also LOVE nature documentaries! I love a mixture of science and fantasy myself. I watch a good bit of Discovery and Animal planet too, along with reading and keeping up with mythologies for fun.

As a lover of all things Kumos (I mean, over half my pets are Kumi), I love all these theories! It makes me want to go into depth on the backstory of the Kumos even more.
