It's in the menagerie in the year 2010 for 2500 trinkets. I wonder what it does?

To build a Steamwork pet:

1. Obtain a species-specific schematic. These can be purchased from either the Yun Enterprises - Purveyors of Plans Schematic Shop, or from user shops/trades/etc. Schematics purchased from the Schematic Shop will take 2-3 days to be drawn up, and you will be notified when it is completed.

2. Obtain a Yunium Key. The key can be created by combining a Yunium Ore, Melting Kettle and Steamwork Key Stone Mold at Asmodeus Genetech Lab, or purchased from user shops/trades/etc.

3. Take your schematic and Yunium Key to Yun Enterprises - Full Steam Ahead and place the order for your pet to be built. The building of your Steamwork pet will take 2-3 days, and you will be notified when it is completed.

To transform an existing pet to a Steamwork pet:

Obtain a species-specific schematic and a Yunium Key (see above). Take the schematic and a Yunium Key to Yun Enterprises - Full Steam Ahead and select which of your pets you want to transform. The transformation will take 2-3 days, and you will be notified when it is completed.

OR... use a Miracle Potion to change your existing pet to a Steamwork pet. The Miracle Potion, however, will only change your pet if its specie has a Steamwork version available. You can also use a Loyalty Potion Totem to transform you pet to Steamwork.

NOTE: Built Steamwork pets are gear-gendered and will have a gender symbol, and a 'built' date instead of a 'born' date. Pets that have been transformed into a Steamwork pet, regardless of the transformation method, will have the normal // gender symbols, and their original born date. Also, the gear gender will only remain on the pet for as long as the pet remains a steamwork pet. If the color of the pet is changed, the pet will become genderless.

there's also an achievement for buying it from the menagerie? (vs making it as described above in kbbob's quote, which may or may not be cheaper than buying it outright)

2500 trinkets * 13,000 sp/trinket = 32.5m

Steamwork Key Stone Mold is like 11.5m, the other two components are negligible.

key is 15m in shops right now.

so assuming you can sell your trinkets for 13k each, you're much better off making the key with the key mold in the genetech lab. the achievement is the only reason you should buy it from the shop

sweet christmas, the mold is basically a half-off sale on the key, even if tokens drop to like. 10k. oAo;; thanks for looking into that, i was going to go with the purchase achievement route for my key but man. i can't justify spending my tokens on the key instead of the new wearables with that kind of price difference /)__(\

I'm going to suggest that if you're looking to profit, sell as many trinkets as you can asap, near the end of the event, it may be more cost effective to buy it from the steamworks place. trinkets have to drop to 4600 or so to be the same cost as a mold though, so they might not ever drop that low.

I always buy a huge stash of cheap trinkets near the end of the Masquerade every year, that way I can get instant gratification when teh new pretties come out on the next one-I already have all the things released so far this year.

Steamworks Trinkets haven't been as low as 4600 for many years. That's more the Lounge Trinket price.

i'd bet on token prices staying pretty stable since they're releasing the new items in waves instead of all at once... i guess i'll wait and see how things are closer to april :? the build date i want for my steamworks pet is after masquerade ends anyhow, so i have time to speculate, hah. p: thanks for the tip!

I didn't think of that, they might start dipping but once the next wave is released, yeah they might go up again, so you probably will be better off getting the mold no matter what :p good luck!

You actually may want to watch key prices. People may buy for the achievement and set them to sell below the mold price.

It's my own experience that folks hedge against future need so prices are more likely to go up high at the start if it's known there will be a second or third tranche. Then as they realize that with their purchases and the faster dancing near the end of the event the price does a short sharp drop.

thanks for the advice! it's been a long while since i paid serious attention to events (worse now that i'm working my wardrobe achievement), so that does help a bit with guessing when to keep an eye on prices o:

you are welcome! I have a huge shop here so I'm always thinking mercantile. Market values of items here do change fairly regularly even now that the price-supports have been implemented so that rare kinda-sorta means valuable, so it's something I think it's fun to watch.
