{The Mechs} A sci-fi opera {Go marching one by one

OoC// Alright, so there was an RP a long time ago about mechs. I don't remember who typed it up, but I'm hoping they see this and come forward, as I'll be using some of the ideas that I remember from it. The basic concept, really. I don't know where they were going to take the story, but I have my own plot and everything! OOC Post

Science has come a long way, pretty much shrinking everything down, from computer microchips to nuclear power. Medical practice has improved 50-fold in the past decades, and the population is booming. Already in the works are colonies on other planets, in giant air-tight bubbles. It'll be another couple decades before they are complete, but it's happening. 
Massive work colony space stations orbit the planets they are working on, creating jobs for billions of people, creating places to live and work.

And, like everything else, the way we wage war has progressed.

Advancements in armament skyrocketed, literally. More compact, yet more efficient ways of powering weapons platforms meant much bigger and better weapons. Ships, aircraft, tanks, even how the infantry get around. Lighter, yet sturdier, harder, more durable metals made way for better body armor and vehicles. One of those advancements were the Mechs.

First developed by the SUSSR (Second Union of Soviet Socialist Republics), Their Mech units, known as the T-155's, are quadrupedal, walking tanks. 2 stories tall, their immense size means they could take on multiple roles in war, at the same time. Anti-air and vehicle, anti-vehicle and infantry, etc. And they were effective. EXTREMELY effective.
Fast and tough, they were equipped with jets on the bottom of their cabs for short thrusts to quicken their movement, or could hold a sustained thrust to jump over, or onto, buildings, making them lethal no matter what the environment called for. Able to rotate the cab 360? on its base meant for full range of easy movement, quick turnarounds and whatnot.

They were a nightmare to come across, especially once the Russians began to mass produce them. They started out as support units, one or two stuck with an armor unit. But then, they became the main thing, the factories cranking out battalions of them. They first saw action in Ukraine, mowing down rebels with ease, destroying everything in their path. The deciding factor for making them the main land weapons platform, and it scared the US and their allies, who never dreamed of making their own, until now.

While the m105A5 Theo tanks could still compete punch-for-punch with the Mech units, they were beginning to fall behind in fights. So mechs of their own began to be designed, with emphasis on the AI in the cockpit. Experimental in design, the mechs were designed not like other vehicles, but represented Animals instead. Kept under wraps for years, they were approved for immediate assembly and field testing, but there was only one stipulation that had kept it from the board for years. The age of the pilots.

Beginning in 2065, All children born in the US and the UK were screened, given simple tests, and whatnot, to test cognitive abilities, intelligence, ability to learn, etc. Almost every child failed, except for a few. A very small, select number were chosen, and watched as they grew. Those kids all now range from age 16-25, and shared one very exceptional quality. Neural flexibility. The ability to connect with an AI for hours, maybe days  on end and not have their brain fry is very important. Too young and they wouldn't comprehend. Too old, and it just wouldn't work. So, the last remaining candidates were eliminated, and it boiled down to 7 young adults, who were sent letters to gather in Washington D.C, under the guise of "Vacation sweepstakes winner!" Their journeys will begin shortly![/spoiler]
